This study was to evaluate the effect of carbon content on metallic change and fatigue characteristics with Fe-29% Ni-17% Co, low heat expansion alloy, widely using electronic components, precision machines, and sealing with glass and metal etc. The steels were fabricated with variation of carbon content, 0, 0.03, 0.06, 0.1, and 0.20% with VIM and tensile test and fatigue test were performed to achieve the above purpose. The more carbon content, the higher hardness value and yield strength. But elongation of 0.03%C, 0.06%C, and 0.10%C specimen decreased about 2.2%, 1.5% and 0.8% respectively mote than that of the base metal. Especially the strength and elongation of 0.20%C specimen increased simultaneously about 14.4% and 7.5%. Fatigue life of 0.03%C specimen decreased but the more carbon content, the higher fatigue life over 0.06% carbon content more than that of base metal.
In the recent years, as the research and the development of micro and precision machinery become active, the interest of micro actuators using SMA(Shape Memory Alloy) has been increased. The dydnamic characteristic analysis of SMA is necessary for actuator application and many common researches report the material characteristics of SMA sufficiently. However the research for dynamic characteristics is very deficient. In this paper, the helical suing are fabricated with NiTi SMA wire of high resistivity. The force, response speed, temperature, and displacement are measured by digital force gauge, infrared thermometer, and laser displacement sensor so that the dynamic characteristics of this SMA is analyzed. Also, bidicrectional actuator was fabricated and experimented for its performance.
Miniaturization is the central theme in modern fabrication technology. Many of the components used in modem products are becoming smaller and smaller. The direct write FIB technology has several advantages over contemporary micromachining technology, including better feature resolution with low lateral scattering and capability of mastless fabrication. Therefore, the application of focused ion beam(FIB) technology in micro fabrication has become increasingly popular. In recent model of FIB, however the feeding system has been a very coarse resolution of about a few ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. It is not unsuitable to the sputtering and the deposition to make the high-precision structure in micro or macro scale. Our research is the development of nano stage of 200mm strokes and l0nm resolutions. Also, this stage should be effectively operating in ultra high vacuum of about 1$\times$10$^{-5}$ pa. This paper presents the concept of nano stages and the discussion of the material treatment for ultra tush vacuum.
The application of focused ion beam (FIB) technology in micro/nano machining has become increasingly popular. Its use in micro/nano machining has advantages over contemporary photolithography or other micro/nano machining technologies, such as small feature resolution, the ability to process without masks and being accommodating for a variety of materials and geometries. This paper presents that the recent development and our research goals in FIB nano machining technology are given. The emphasis will be on direct milling, or chemical vapor deposition techniques (CVD), and this can distinguish the FIB technology from the contemporary photolithography process and provide a vital alternative to it. After an introduction to the technology and its FIB principles, the recent developments in using milling or deposition techniques for making various high-quality devices and high-precision components at the micro/nano meter scale are examined and discussed. Finally, conclusions are presented to summarize the recent work and to suggest the areas for improving the FIB milling technology and for studying our future research.
The stable driving condition of high speed gear is approached by shape modifications of a gear tooth. Recently, many gear designers are using FEM for the design and the manufacture of a high precision gear. In this paper, it is aimed to drive in stable sound level through the modification of the tooth and the shape of a gear. The simulation is used to understand the effect of holes for the decrement of weight and the stress variation for the tooth modification. Beam elements used to simulate the same condition as a real gear drive by FEM. The driven gear is simulated to 60,000rpm for the tooth modification.
The continuous chip in turning operation deteriorates precision of workpiece and causes a hazardous condition to operator. Thus the chip form control becomes a very important task for reliable machining process. So, grooved chip breaker is widely used to obtain reliable discontinuous chip. However, developing new cutting insert having chip breaker takes long time and needs lots of research expense due to a couple of processes such as forming, sintering, grinding and coating of product and many different evaluation tests. In this paper, performance of commercial chip breaker is evaluated with neural network which is learned with a back propagation algorithm. For the evaluation, several important elements(depth of cut, land, breadth, radius) which directly influence the chip formation were chosen among commercial chip breakers and were used as input values of neural network. With the results of these input values, the performance evaluation method was developed and applied that method to the commercial tools.
In order to operate CD and DVD compatibly in a pickup system, the objective lens comprise diffractive optical element(DOE) zone and aspheric curvature on its lens surface. The DOE objective lens is effective to simplify this dual-purpose pickup system of the 655nm and 785nm wavelength by using only one lens, but requires more precision manufacturing process and system due to the complicated shape. This paper presents the overall manufacturing process of this objective lens and describes main parameters in each process, for the correction of the aspheric surface in its core, the shrinkage compensation after injection molding, and the uniformity compensation by adjusting molding conditions.
The number of parts made of ceramic materials has gradually been increasing in field of from mechanical engineering to electronics engineering and, mechanical engineering ceramics have spread because of three very favourable characteristic features of their application, namely, heat, wear, and corrosion resistance. therefore, the elaboration of suitable grinding technologies is Important. grinding is problematic because crack-free ceramics are difficult to process owing to their particular micro structure. In this paper we report on the application of advanced precision grinding process, elaborating continuous wheel dressing. The removal rate can be increased significantly and surface roughness is improved. Various problems(roughness, ground surface etc)encountered in grinding of ceramics are also discussed.
The magnetic abrasive polishing is the useful method to finish using magnetic power of a magnet. It's not a long time this method was introduced to korea as one of precision finishing techniques. The magnetic abrasive polishing method is not so common for machine that it is not spreaded widely. The are rarely researcher in this field because of no-effectiveness of magnetic abrasive. The mechanism of this R&D is dealing with the dynamic state of magnet-abusive. This paper deals with mediocritizing magnetic polishing device into regular lathe and this experiment was conducted in order to get the best surface roughness at low cost. We need to continue the research on it. This paper contains the result of experiment to acquire the best surface roughness, not using the high-cost polishing material in processing. The average diameters of magnetic abrasive are the particles of 150$\mu\textrm{m}$, 250$\mu\textrm{m}$.
A correctly designed bridge offers improved operational safety in terms of increased vigilance, flexibility of operation, precision of control and operator's situational awareness. According1y to design human centered bridge, the consideration shall be given to the man-machine interface, location and interrelation of workstation, configuration of console, windows. field of vision and bridge working environment. The state-of-the-art suits for one-man operation by integration of conning information and central information presentation. Further, it is desirable to enable two man ship operation for emergency operations, training purposes and redundancy. In this point of view, this thesis would like to design a conceptual bridge.
