  • Two data sets of repeated hydrographic surveys with a single beam echo-sounder were obtained to investigate morphological changes on a sand mining site within EEZ near the Eocheong Islands, West Sea of Korea. Their accuracies of depth measurement, estimated from the crossover analysis, correspond to the Oder 2 of IHO standards. Bathymetric maps show a feature of 300m wide and 10m deep hollow, whose evolution can be seen in difference grids of the two bathymetric maps. However, data of higher accuracy and resolution enable precise quantification of extracted sand volume. Since this morphological change could affect sedimentary environment as well as benthic ecology, environmental impact assessment based on scientific research data is required for management and sustainable development of limited sand resource.

  • Bronchial asthma is a disease characterized by the condition of airway hyper-responsiveness, which serves to produce narrowing of the airway secondary to airway inflammation and/or various spasm-inducing stimulus. Nonspecific bronchoprovocation testing is an important method implemented for the purpose of diagnosing asthma; this test measures the actual degree of airway hyper-responsiveness and utilizes direct and indirect bronchoprovocation testing. Direct bronchoprovocation testing using methacholine or histamine may have superior sensitivity as these substances directly stimulate the airway smooth muscle cells. On the other hand, this method also engenders the specific disadvantage of relatively low specificity. Indirect bronchoprovocation testing using mannitol, exercise, hypertonic saline, adenosine and hyperventilation serves to produce reactions in the airway smooth muscle cells by liberating mediators with stimulation of airway inflammatory cells. Therefore, this method has the advantage of high specificity and also demonstrates relatively low sensitivity. Direct and indirect testing both call for very precise descriptions of very specific measurement conditions. In addition, it has become evident that challenge testing utilizing each of the various bronchoconstrictor stimuli requires distinct and specific protocols. It is therefore important that the clinician understand the mechanism by which the most commonly used bronchoprovocation testing works. It is important that the clinician understand the mechanism of action in the testing, whether direct stimuli (methacholine) or indirect stimuli (mannitol, exercise) is implemented, when the testing is performed and the results interpreted.

  • The PSC bridges have recently been widely used in Korea. The PSC bridge is a structure whose performance is improved through the use of tendons and steel bars in deflection and cracking characteristics of the concrete. Therefore, measurement or estimation of the load acting on tendon is important in order to maintain the PSC bridges efficiently and safely. This paper deals with a numerical study on the deformation of a multi-tendon anchor head in order to verify the relationship between the load acting on tendon and the deformation of anchor head. All kinematics, material properties and contact nonlinearity are included for the precise analysis and numerical studies are performed by Abaqus. From the numerical results, it is verified that the hoop strain is most useful in the estimation of the load acting on tendon and strains are affected by various parameters such as friction coefficient, boundary conditions, and arrangement.

  • Fractionated stereotactic radiosurguy (FSRS) requires precise and reproducible patient set up. For these reasons non-invasive mask fixation methods have been used in Linac based FSRS. In this study, we measured and assessed the isocenter reproducibility using a commercial head mask fixation system based on thermoplastic materials. For the verification and the measurement of isocenter deviation a special acrylic brain phantom was designed. The designed phantom has 22 vertical rods and each rod has different lengths. At the end of the 8 rods, the monochromic film is attached and irradiated due to planned target position. Deviations of isocenter were measured separately for each direction. The mean deviation showed 0.4 mm in longitudinal direction, 0.1 mm in the lateral direction, 0.1 mm in the anterior-posterior direction of the treatment couch. The data demonstrates the high accuracy and reproducibility. This study reinforces previous literature published.

  • Digital holographic microscopy allows optical path difference measurement. Optical path difference depends on both the refractive index and the morphology of the sample. When interference fringes are very closely spaced, the phase data contain high frequencies where $2{\pi}$ ambiguities cannot be resolved. The immersion testing method, which is a transmission test while the sample is immersed in liquid, is very effective in reducing high frequency fringes in transmission measurements so that large dynamic range testing is possible for a non-null configuration. We developed a digital holographic microscope using liquid that can measure the high numerical aperture aspheric morphology of a sample. This system provides highly precise three-dimensional information on the sample. By improving the experimental method, choosing liquids which have similar refractive index to the sample, we can measure more accurate three-dimensional information on the samples.

  • In this study, we measured the complex efficiency of a physiologically active antibody, a chelator and radiosiotopes using the ESI-TOF/Ms system for develop good radiopharmaceuticals. For a precise measurement, TLC is a low accuracy method. Loading of same amount of sample is difficult for each test, and work to quantify accurately the results obtained through TLC cannot be afforded compared to the use of other analytical instruments. The method of analysis using a mass spectrometer is capable of a mass analysis of proteins for quantitative analysis. The conjugates of the chelator (CHX-A- DTPA) and the antibody (IgG) were separated through MWCO, and were analyzed using ESI-TOF and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. The analysis using MALDI-TOF is roughly divided into measurements on mass spectrometry. When conjugating a small molecular weight of CHX-A-DTPA and a large molecular weight of IgG, distinguishing the peak of the conjugate and the peak of IgG was difficult. However, an ESI-TOF mass spectrometer system is capable of an analysis of mass by decentralizing the IgG. It is utilized as a technique for measuring the metabolic processes during conjugation and the stability evaluation of radiopharmaceuticals. When establishing this technique, the accuracy of the overall radiophar-maceutical analysis is expected to be able to be improved.

  • When determining a three dimensional position for engineering purposes, we can use the GPS survey to find position. According to the enhancement of precision for domestic Geoid model, the positional accuracy of GPS about precise method of vertical position has been also increased. But by considering Geoid undulation, it is difficult to measure GPS-derived elevations. Because Geoid undulation has changed little in local sites, GPS-derived elevations are similar to orthometric height. By ignoring Geoid undulation, it is possible to measure GLT-derived elevations at the local. small construction sites. GLT(GPS Leveling Technique) provides a method for computing orthometric heights. GLT processes the data more rapidly than conventional measurement devices. We only considered the weight factors affecting accuracy between the points. That is, the GPS procedures to produce satisfactory elevation accuracy depends on the method of observations, receivers and conditions of the local environment. A comparison was performed between the GPS survey using Geoid model and GLT at a part within Pusan National University and construction model sites in South Korea. And the writers proved the GPS surveying is efficient in positioning accuracy, time, and cost on a construction sites.

  • GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) is mostly used for high-precise surveys due to its accuracy and efficiency. But this technique does not always fulfill the demanding accuracy in harsh operational environments such as urban canyon and forest. One of the remedies for overcoming this barrier is to compose a heterogeneous surveying network by adopting terrestrial measurements (i.e., distances and angles). Hence, this study dealt with the adjustment of heterogeneous surveying networks consisted of GNSS baseline vectors, distances, horizontal and vertical angles with a view to enhancing their accuracy and so as to derive an appropriate scheme of the measurement combination. Reviewing some technical issues of the network adjustments, the simulation, and experimental studies have been carried out, showing that the inclusion of the terrestrial measurements in the GNSS standalone overall increased the accuracy of the adjusted coordinates. Especially, if the distances, the horizontal angles, or both of them were simultaneously adjusted with GNSS baselines, the accuracy of the GNSS horizontal component was improved. Comparing the inclusion of the horizontal angles with those of the distances, the former has been more influential on accuracy than the latter even though the same number of measurements were employed in the network. On the other hand, results of the GNSS network adjustment together with the vertical angles demonstrated the enhancement of the vertical accuracy. As conclusion, this paper proposes a simultaneous adjustment of GNSS baselines and the terrestrial measurements for an effective scheme that overcomes the limitation of GNSS control surveys.
