In this study, the continuous monitoring of the concentration of PM-10 atmospheric particulate matter using beta ray attenuation method was compared with gravimetric method from September, 2006 to August, 2007. On the effects of the PM-10 concentration and mass difference by relative humidity and precipitation were considered. The result showed that the measurement error between beta ray method and gravimetric method are within -3~6% in average, which means PM-10 concentration data with beta ray method are relatively comparable. The current study also shows that the high PM-10 concentration events are mainly due to haze, Asian dust, and high relative humidity and the PM-10 mass concentration is closely related with relative humidity and precipitation events. Based on daily mean data, the PM-10 increases as relative humidity increases up to 70~80%, then decreases over 80% due to the precipitation. However, the distinct measurement discrepancy was not shown between beta ray method and gravimetric method based on current results. Consequently, this study shows that the collocated measurement in different instrument is essential in order to quantify the accuracy of PM-10. Furthermore, the more comprehensive and spatially distributed comparison is needed and this is remained for future study.
The water-table fluctuation (WTF) method has been often used for estimating groundwater recharge by analysis of waterlevel measurements in observation wells. An important assumption inherent in the method is that the water level rise is solely caused by precipitation recharge. For the observation wells located near a stream, however, the water-level can be highly affected by the stream level fluctuations as well as precipitation recharge. Therefore, in applying the WTF method, there should be consideration regarding the effect of stream-aquifer interactions. Analysis of water-level hydrographs from the National Groundwater Monitoring Wells of Korea showed that they could be classified into three different types depending on their responses to either precipitation recharge or stream level fluctuations. A simple groundwater flow model was used to analyze the errors of the WTF method, which were associated with stream-aquifer interactions. Not surprisingly, the model showed that the WTF method could greatly overestimate recharge, when it was used for the observation wells of which the water-level was affected by streams. Therefore, in Korea, where most groundwater hydrographs are acquired from wells nearby a stream, more caution is demanded in applying the WTF method.
Photocatalytic zinc oxide powders were prepared from precursor zinc acetate and ammonia solution at elevated temperature, $80^{\circ}C$, by hydrothermal precipitation method. The effect of operating parameters, pH of ammonia solution and concentration of zinc acetate solution, on the characteristics of zinc oxide powders were experimentally examined. Zinc oxide powders prepared at the conditions of pH 11, zinc acetate concentration of 1.0 M, precipitation temperature of $80^{\circ}C$, showed smallest average particle diameter of $3{\mu}m$. SEM and XRD analysis confirmed that prepared zinc oxide has hexagonal rods structure, and Anatase type crystallinity. In addition, DRS and PL analysis showed that the zinc oxide has activity at the range of 200~400 nm of UV light. And the zinc oxide decomposed 57% of a food-color stamp Brilliant blue FCF for 3 hours under the UV radiation.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the existing method of calculating rainfall-runoff erosivity using monthly precipitation, such as Fournier's index, modified Fournier's index, IAS (Institute of Agricultural Sciences) index, etc., and to present more reasonable regression model based on monthly rainfall data in Korea. This study introduced a new simplified method of calculating rainfall-runoff erosivity based on monthly precipitation, called by modified IAS index. It was expanded form IAS index which is the simple calculation method by summing up the rainfall amount of two months with maximum amount. Monthly precipitation and annual rainfall-runoff erosivity at 21 weather stations for over 25 years were used to analyze correlation relationship and regression model. The result shows that modified IAS index is the more reasonable parameter for estimating rainfall-runoff erosivity of the middle-western and south-western regions in Korea.

0.5wt% Ru/$\alpha-Al_2O_3$ catalysts are prepared by deposition-precipitation method for the preferential CO oxidation In order to investigate the effect of pH on the Ru dispersion and particle size, the pH of precursor solution is adjusted to between 5.5 and 9.5. 0.5wt% Ru/$\alpha-Al_2O_3$ catalyst prepared at the pH of 6.5 has high Ru dispersion of 17.9% and small particle size of 7.7nm. In addition, 0.5wt% Ru/$\alpha-Al_2O_3$ catalyst prepared at the pH 6.5 is easily reduced at low temperatures below $150^{\circ}C$ due to high dispersion of $RuO_2$ particle and shows high CO conversion over 90% in the wide temperature range between $100^{\circ}C$ and $160^{\circ}C$. Moreover, the deposition-precipitation is a feasible method to improve the Ru dispersion as compared to the impregnation method. The 0.5wt% Ru/$\alpha-Al_2O_3$ catalyst prepared by deposition-precipitation exhibits higher CO conversion than 0.5wt% Ru/$\alpha-Al_2O_3$ catalysts prepared by impregnation due to higher metal dispersion and better reducibility at low temperature.

Methods used for averaging PH's of rainwater and site representation have been studied, Statistical analysis was attempted regarding effects of ionic components on PH's utilizing 847 data altogether obtained in two years, 1984 and 1985. The outcome of the study may be assumarized as follows: 1. Methods for Averaging PH Volume weighted method is considered to be acceptable providing that precipitation is measured at the same time when the samples are taken. Without precipitation data a simple averaging method should be the next choice. 2. Site Representation A statistical method used for optimizing a monitoring newtork was applied using the data collected. Because of a limited number of data, no discernible conclusion can be reached suggesting that the method can serve as a good guide when the data base becomes more reliable. 3. A good correlation appears to exist betwen conductivities and ionic components in rainwater. It would, therefore, be possible to certain extend to estimate ionic concentrations from conductivity measurements by correlation equations. 4. The acidity of rainwater is effected by $SO_4^{2-}, NO_3^-, Cl^- and NH_4^+ with SO_4^{2-}$ being the most significant as demonstrated by standardized regression analysis.

We prepared the Au-coated $TiO_2$ (Au/$TiO_2$) nanoparticles by deposition-precipitation (DP) method with and without bases (urea or NaOH) and investigated the effects of pH on the preparation of Au/$TiO_2$ nanoparticles for various kinds of bases. For the DP method without bases, the Au nanoparticles in the diameter of about 50 nm were generated in the solution by the reduction reaction with trisodium citrate and they did not deposit on the surface of $TiO_2$. For the DP method with bases, Au precursors deposited on the surface of $TiO_2$ and then reduced to the Au nanoparticles in the diameter of 4-5 nm on the surface of $TiO_2$ by the reaction with trisodium citrate.

In this study, spherical monodispersed cerium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG : $Ce^{3+}$) phosphor particles were synthesized via homogeneous precipitation method using the mixed solution of yttrium nitrate, cerium nitrate, aluminum nitrate, ammonium aluminum sulfate, and urea as a precipitant. During the process of precursors of monodispersed YAG : $Ce^{3+}$, aluminum ions which form spherical aluminum compounds precipitated first and yttrium compounds precipitated onto the surface of the existing spherical aluminum compounds. Drying process using lyophilization could obtain monodispered spherical YAG : $Ce^{3+}$ particles compare to using oven. The thermal calcination process of YAG : $Ce^{3+}$ precursors under the temperature of $1200^{\circ}C$ for 6 h was enough to obtain 400~500 nm sized YAG particles with pure YAG phase.

The concept of soil moisture memory was used as a method for quantifying the function of soil to control water flow, which evaluates the average residence time of precipitation. In order to characterize the soil moisture memory, a new measurement index called stored precipitation fraction (Fp(f)) was used by tracking the increments in soil moisture by the precipitation event. In this study, the temporal and spatial distribution of soil moisture memory was evaluated along with the slope and soil characteristics of the surface (0~5 cm) soil by using satellite- and model-based precipitation and soil moisture in the Korean peninsula, from 2019 to 2020. The spatial deviation of the soil moisture memory was large as the stored precipitation fraction in the soil decreased preferentially along the mountain range at the beginning (after 3 hours), and the deviation decreased overall after 24 hours. The stored precipitation fraction in the soil clearly decreased as the slope increased, and the effect of drainage of water in the soil according to the composition ratio of the soil particle size was also shown. In addition, average soil moisture contributed to the increase and decrease of hydraulic conductivity, and the rate of rainfall transfer to the depths affected the stored precipitation fraction. It is expected that the results of this study will greatly contribute in clarifying the relationship between soil moisture memory and surface characteristics (slope, soil characteristics) and understanding spatio-temporal variation of soil moisture.
Direct parameter estimation method is verified with various models based on Neyman-Scott rectangular pulse model (NSRPM). Also, newly modified NSRPM (NMSRPM) that uses normal distribution is developed. Precipitation data observed by Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) for 47 years is applied for parameter estimation. For model performance verification, we used statistics, wet ratio and precipitation accumulate distribution of precipitation generated. The comparison of statistics indicates that absolute relative error (ARE)s of the results from NSRPM and modified NSRPM (MNSRPM) are increasing on July, August, and September and ARE of NMNSRPM shows 10.11% that is the smallest ARE among the three models. NMNSRPM simulates the characteristics of precipitation statistics well. By comparing the wet ratio, MNSRPM shows the smallest ARE that is 16.35% and by using the graphical analysis, we found that these three models underestimate the wet ratio. The three models show about 2% of ARE of precipitation accumulate probability. Those results show that the three models simulate precipitation accumulate probability well. As the results, it is found that the parameters of NSRPM, MNSRPM and NMNSRPM are able to be estimated by the direct parameter estimation method. From the results listed above, we concluded that the direct parameter estimation is able to be applied to various models based on NSRPM. NMNSRPM shows good performance compared with developed model-NSRPM and MNSRPM and the models based on NSRPM can be developed by the direct parameter estimation method.
