This study was conducted to investigate the effect of Makgeolli and Makgeolli precipitate on hepatotoxity and the serum lipid content in rats. First, we investigated the effect of Makgeolli and ethanol on the progress of alcoholic fatty liver. The effect of Makgeolli precipitate on carbon tetrachloride ($CCl_4$)-induced hepatotoxicity in the rats was then studied. Indicators of the health status of the experimental period, the body weight gain in ethanol-treated group tended to be lower than those in the control and the Makgeolli-treated groups. The weight of the liver tissue decreased significantly following the administration of ethanol. However, this was not seen following the administration of Makgeolli. The activities of serum aspartate transaminase (AST) and alanine transaminase (ALT) were decreased in the Makgeolli group compared to the ethanol group. Serum cholesterol concentrations increased in the ethanol group, but decreased in the Makgeolli-treated group to an equal volume of the ethanol-treated group. The serum HDL-cholesterol content was significantly higher in the Makgeolli group than in the ethanol group. Analysis of the impact of the Makgeolli precipitate on toxicity induced by $CCl_4$ in the liver showed that the $CCl_4$ treatment significantly increased the activities of serum ALT and AST. However, the levels of cholesterol and triglyceride in serum were decreased. The $CCl_4$ treatment increased the activities of AST and ALT. However, the raw Makgeolli precipitate decreased their activities. Moreover, raw Makgeolli precipitate significantly reduced the $CCl_4$-induced elevation of serum lipids more than heated Makgeolli precipitate. These results suggest that raw Makgeolli precipitate may exert a protective effect against $CCl_4$-induced liver injury by preventing lipid peroxidation.
The features of precipitating reaction of fluorine have been examined under several aquatic conditions by employing calcium ion as a precipitant. Based on MINTEQ program, fluorine was found to exist in the forms of $H_2F_2$ and HF in strong acidic environment and change into $F^-$ with increasing pH. In the experimental condition, the precipitating reaction of fluorine progressed rapidly within a few minutes after the reaction started and reached its equilibrium in 10 minutes. As the addition of precipitant was increased, removal of fluorine by the formation of precipitate was promoted and its was also enhanced by the rise of pH. The precipitating reaction of fluorine was impeded when its initial concentration was low and X-ray analysis showed that the crystalline structure of precipitate was mainly $CaF_2$ with partly NaF. Coexisting phosphate in solution influenced the fluorine removal by impeding the precipitate formation and similar effect was found when metallic ion such as $Zn^{2+}$ was present with fluorine.

In this study, a liquid carbonation method was applied for producing precipitate calcium carbonate by liquid-liquid reaction. We recycled the recycling water of ready-mixed concrete, one of construction waste for use source of carbonate ion. A supernatant separated from the recycling water of ready-mixed concrete, as a result of ICP analysis of a cation, $Ca^{2+}$ was contained up to 1100 ppm. We used MEA as a $CO_2$ absorbent for the liquid carbonation. A precipitate $CaCO_3$ was produced at more than MEA 20 wt%. The precipitate $CaCO_3$ as a final product was separated and dried. The result of XRD was confirmed the generation of $CaCO_3$ to calcite structure.

Short-term high temperature degradation test was conducted on Hastelloy X, a candidate tube material for high temperature gas-cooled reactors (HTGR), to evaluate the variation of microstructure and mechanical property in air at $1050^{\circ}C$ during 2000 h. The dominant oxide layer was Cr-oxide and a very shallow Cr-depleted region was observed below the oxide layer. At the beginning of degradation, the island shape $M_6C$ precipitate (M=Mo-rich, Fe, Ni, Cr) was observed in matrix region. After 2000 h degradation, precipitate shape was changed to the chain shape and increased amount of precipitate. These results influenced mechanical property of the specimen which exposed in high temperature. Yield strength was decreased from 115MPa to 89 MPa after 24 h and 2000 h exposure, respectively.
In this study, we have applied fractional precipitation with hydrophilic polymer in order to decrease the particle size of the (+)-dihydromyricetin from plant materials. When compared with the case where no hydrophilic polymer was employed, the addition of hydrophilic polymer in fractional precipitation resulted in a considerable decrease in the size of the (+)-dihydromyricetin precipitate. Among the polymers used, HPMC 2910 was the most effective for inhibition of precipitate growth. A polymer concentration of 0.1% (w/v) yielded the smallest particle size. The particle size was reduced by ~40% compared to control. In addition, the precipitate size was inversely correlated with the absolute value of the zeta potential of the suspension with polymer.
High purity(99.99%) spherical particles of hydrated Basic Aluminum Salts(BAS) were prepared by a homogeneous precipitation process utilizing the urea decomposition reaction and characterized by XRD, SEM, TG-DTA, IR and PSA methods. Amorphous hydrated BAS was precipitated in the range of pH 4~6. The molar ratio [Al3+]/[SO42-] for the precipitate particles was about 3.7. With increasing the concentration of aluminum sulfate the precipitation of the hydrated BAS occurred slowly and the precipitate particles with a narrow size distribution were fine(1-2${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in diameter). At temperatures in the range 400$^{\circ}$to 95$0^{\circ}C$, desulfurization and dehydroxylization resulted in weight loss with 22%. When the precipitate particles were thermally treated, the crystlline ${\gamma}$-Al2O3 was identifited by XRD at 50$0^{\circ}C$ and ${\gamma}$-Al2O3 particles were transformed into $\alpha$-Al2O3 at 100$0^{\circ}C$. A vermicular network was produced by calcining at 125$0^{\circ}C$ for 30min.
An extracellular pigment production of three Phellinus sp. (Phellinus 421, P. linteus and P. hartigil) through submerged cultivation was investigated. The maximum brown pigment from culture broth was obtained from the precipitate by addition of 10% 1M HCI solution. This precipitate showed absorption characteristics with ${\lambda}_{max}$ of 360nm. The maximum production of extracellular pigment obtained at optimum medium and culture condition was 3.54 ($A_{360}$). The precipitate was fractionated by Sephadex G-75 gel chromatography, and the isolated brown pigment contained a large amount of polyphenol and the small amounts of sugar and protein. The brown pigment fraction was stable in temperature range of $30{\sim}60^{\circ}C$, pH range of $4{\sim}6$, sugar addition ranges of $1{\sim}5%$ and salt addition concentration of 3 molarity. Antioxidative activity of the brown pigment by TBA method was better than that of vitamin E (${\alpha}$-tocopherol).
Mechanical properties of the spray-cast Al 6061 alloy with variation of Mg/Si addition were investigated. After spray-cast, hot extrusion was performed at $460^{\circ}C$ then followed ageing treatment to the T6 condition. SEM, EDX, and XRD were used to characterize a ${\beta}(Mg_{2}Si)$ precipitate. The amount of ${\beta}$ precipitate was calculated from the XRD measurements. Hardness, ultimate tensile strength and elongation were tested then compared with those of the Al 6061 alloys made by ingot metallurgy (I/M) and powder metallurgy (P/M). The ultimate tensile strength and elongation of the spray-cast Al 6061 alloy were 318MPa and 16.5%, respectively. These properties were improved in the 2.2 wt%Mg and 1.3wt%Si addition up to 349MPa of UTS and 12.5% of elongation, mainly due to increased amount of a fine supersaturated ${\beta}(Mg_{2}Si)$ precipitate.

Aluminum sulfate, $AI_{2}(SO_4)_3\cdot18H_2O$ was prepared by adding of kaolin-dissolved sulphuric acid into ethanol and its thermal decomposition behavior was discussed. As-synthesized high purity precipitate particles were platelike shapes of $2\mu\textrm{m}$ size. With increasing drop rate of leach liquor into ethanol, the crystallite sizes of the precipitate decreased. The apparent activation energies for dehydration and sulfate decomposition of the precipitate were $11.9Kcal mol^{-1}$ and $48.2kcal mol^{-1}$ respectively.
In this study, we have for the first time applied fractional precipitation with hydrophilic polymer in order to decrease the particle size of the anticancer agent paclitaxel from plant cell cultures. When compared with the case where no hydrophilic polymer was employed, the addition of hydrophilic polymer in fractional precipitation resulted in a decrease in the size of the paclitaxel precipitate. Among the polymers used, HPMC 2910 was the most effective for inhibition of precipitate growth. A polymer concentration of 0.2% (w/v) obtained the smallest particle size. The particle size was reduced by ~35% compared to control. In addition, the precipitate size was inversely correlated with the absolute value of the zeta potential.
