  • The object of this study is the development of a Method which is enable to review the preliminary feasibility for co-generation system in new apartment buildings. In Korea co-generation systems have been installed in most of large industrial plants and commercial buildings which consume a large quantity of electric and heat energy, for energy saving and cutting products cost, under positive governmental supports. However for apartment buildings which consume quite a large electric and heat energy, are still remained in conventional energy supply system, and are not popular to utilize useful co-generation system. One of the major reason for these is the lack of clear and easy justification tool. In this circumstance, this study can provide a tool to verify the feasibility of co-generation in apartment buildings with this handy tools for planners and designers beforehand.

Development of Audible Noise Prediction Formulas Applied to HVAC Transmission Lines Design by Using Genetic Programming (유전프로그래밍에 의한 초고압 송전선로 환경설계용 코로나 소음 예측계산식 개발)

  • Audible noise (AN) produced by corona discharges from high voltage transmission lines is one of the more important considerations in line design. Therefore, line designers must pre-determine the AN using prediction formulas. This paper presents the results of applying evolutionary computation techniques using AN data from lines throughout the world to develop new, highly accurate formulas for predicting a A-weighted AN during heavy rain and stable rain from overhead ac lines. Calculated ANs using these new formulas and existing formulas are compared with measured data.

  • Stabilizing systems with Gyroscope are extensively used in various tracking devices for attaining the system's objective. Because of putting performance first in importance of system and focusing on specification of parts, designers are sometimes passing over the dynamic characteristics of system in vibrating condition. In this paper, we were dealing with unstable stabilizing control due to coincidence of stabilization platform natural frequency and that of Gyroscope used for sensing rate. For solving this problem, statics and dynamic test of silicon rubber with 3 different hardness were performed and similar stabilizing system was adopted to prove reasonability of rubber choice and static pre-strain.

  • There lies more subjectivity in the methods and process of showing the Koreaness, and design methods cannot be defined with only one answer key, which is probable to cause much difficulty. Until now, the traditional Korean features have been tried by quite a few designers whose approaches deserves for the reference to understand the trends of expressing the Koreaness and develop the ways of its expression. Therefore, this study first considers the trial processes of design methods in reconsidering the Koreaness done by many artists in terms of previous studies and researches. Then this tries to make a frame to analyze the Koreaness theoretically after studying the approaches knowledge about traditional architecture designs widely used as design concepts, and to examine specific cases which reflects them in their interior architecture. All of these studies are aimed at get the understandings on trends and methods demonstrating the Koreaness in modern interior design. This study ranges from the artists, who have made efforts to express Koreaness in 1990s and after, to their artworks. As study methods, pre-study and reference researches had been done to examine the knowledge factors on the ground of the theory of D.G Jansson, to give a theory to the understanding of its methods and tendencies, and to build the frame for case analysis. As a result, in traditional architecture, spacial design gets the prominent priority and other factors are not far from different. In formative approachesthe expression inclination on material factor is outstanding. Consequently, these two approaches have analytic elements in difference but spacial design and materiality have prominently in common to express the Koreaness.

APPLICATION OF FIRE RESEARCH TO BUILDING FIRE SAFETY DESIGN - CURRENT BENEFITS AND FUTURE NEEDS

  • There is a strong international move towards performance based fire regulations for buildings with New Zealand and Australia at the forefront of research in this fold. The reform of regulations is thought to offer more innovation and flexibility in building design and greater cost effectiveness in construction. An important part of the research in this area is related to the development of agreed approaches to fire safety design, such as the Fire Code Reform Centre's "Fire Engineering Guidelines" or New Zealand's "Fire Engineering Design Guide". Such design process documents have incorporated or referenced much of the latest research in areas such as: tenability criteria fire compartment models egress models risk assessment. Use of such design guidelines or equivalents in major projects in countries such as Hong Kong and Australia have highlighted where fro engineering can offer real benefits to building designers and ultimately building owners and operators. However, there is still much research to be done and use of a systematic, logical design approach clearly identifies where design data or modelling techniques are still urgently required. Such areas are: fire growth rates and peak heat release rates for non-residential occupancies pre-movement times related to egress experimental validation and limits of applicability of CFD and other compartment Ire models probability/reliability data on fire protection systems for risk based analysis. Examples from case studies will be shown where lack of such research and poor judgement can lead to inferior design solutions or where unnecessarily conservative designs can lead to cost excesses. In summary, the link between Ire engineering designers and the research community is very important to highlight areas of fire research that will have the most benefit to the building and construction industry.nstruction industry.

  • The simulators for a plant unit master control (UMC) developed by domestic or overseas researchers have been developed for operator-training purposes. UMC simulators normally constructed at the end of the plant construction, despite the UMC logics, should be simulated to pre-check many signal interfaces within the power generation systems. Because of the differences in construction schedule, it is difficult for logic designers or commissioning engineers to simulate the UMC logic during the design or commissioning stage. In this background, this paper proposes a simulation method that can be used easily by plant logic designers or operators in the MATLAB Simulink programming environment. The core of the UMC is realized with a unique simulation algorithm based on mathematical analysis and functional blocks combination. In addition, an integer-based configuration was proposed to realize the plant target value control for the equipment in the logic. With these simulation methods, functions, e.g., load distribution, high-low limitations, frequency compensation, etc. were simulated. The results showed that the plant UMC logic can be simulated in Simulink without a plant simulator. The various functions proposed in this paper can provide useful information about Simulink-based simulation design for plant logic designers or commissioning engineers during the power plant construction period.

Environmentally Friendly Design Program for HVAC Overhead Transmission Lines (HVAC 가공 송전선로 환경친화설계프로그램 TLCALC)

  • HVAC transmission lines must be designed to satisfy environmental regulations. Therefore it is necessary to pre-evaluate environmental problems for transmission line designer using prediction program. In this study, environment design software, TLCALC 2001 for transmission lines was developed as a comprehensive window program. It has 6 modules that are audible noise, radio noise, television noise, magnetic field, electric field and conductor surface gradient. TLCALC 2001 solved a few problems in use of the existing foreign tools and took several advantages. Experienced designers can get the results of calculation within about 15 minutes. Because the use of TLCALC 2001 is easy and practical, this program will be usefully applied to the environmental friendly design and construction of HVAC transmission lines. In the future, it is expected that public complaints and social environmental cost will be reduced by the use of TLCALC 2001.

  • In general, the braking system of a high speed train has an important role for the safety of the train. To stop safely the train at its pre-decided position, it is necessary to properly combine the various brakes. The train has adopted a combined electrical and mechanical (friction) braking systems. In order to design a good brake system, it is essential for designers to predict the brake performance. In this paper, the braking performance analysis program has been developed and verified by comparing the simulation results with the brake test results of HSR-350x; both results match very well. Also, the brake performances of high speed trains can be predicted by using this program under various conditions.

  • In this paper, a digital controller design procedure is presented for single-phase voltage-doubler boost rectifiers (VDBR). The model derivation of the single-phase VDBR is performed in the s-domain. After that the simplified equivalent z-domain models are derived. These z-domain models are utilized to design the input current and the output dc-link voltage controllers. For the controller design in the z-domain, the traditional K-factor method is modified by considering the nature of the digital controller. The frequency pre-warping and anti-windup techniques are adapted for the controller design. By using the proposed method, the phase margin and the control bandwidth are accurately achieved as required by controller designers in a practical frequency range. The proposed method is applied to a 2.5 kVA single-phase VDBR for Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) applications. From the simulation and the experimental results, the effectiveness of the proposed design method has been verified.

Development of Formulas for Predicting Radio Noise from Overhead HVAC Transmission Lines using Least Squares Optimization Method (최소자승법에 의한 초고압 가공 송전선로의 라디오 잡음장해 예측계산식 개발)

  • The radio noise produced by corona discharge in high voltage transmission lines is one of the most important line design considerations. Therefore it is necessary for transmission line designers to pre-evaluate radio noise using prediction formulas or field test results. In this paper, more accurate and useful formulas for predicting radio noise during fair and foul weathers in high voltage AC transmission lines were proposed through comparison with the existing formulas. Also it was verified by comparing with the long-term measured data from operating lines that the proposed formulas are more accurate. The proposed prediction formulas are developed by the applications of nonlinear least squares optimization method to radio noise database collected from lines throughout the world.
