Fundamental Study of an Integrated Control Method for a Linear Motor Driven Container Crane System

  • The authors have proposed a linear motor driven container crane system, in which the linear motor to drive trolley chassis is also used to control swaying motion of a hanging container. To utilize the proposed system, it is needed to develop a power saving control system for the linear drive system. In this paper, an integrated control system to minimize required electric power to drive a trolley chassis with the suppressed swaying motion of a hanged container, is proposed. The validity of the proposed control system is investigated by the simulation using Simulink.

  • It is possible to suppress voltage drops, power loading fluctuations and regeneration power lapses for DC railway systems by applying an energy storage system. Recently the electric double layer capacitor (EDLC) of the rapid charge/discharge type has been developed and used in wide ranges. The on board energy storage system with supercapacitor for railway vehicles presented in this paper seems to be a reliable technical solution with an enormous energy saving potential. In this paper, an efficient charge and discharge control method of a bidirectional DC-DC converter using the supercapacitor is proposed.

  • An investigation into power conditioners that interface with photovoltaic array and utilities has been completed. The rating for this investigation is residential system (3-5kW) that interface with a 220V single phase utility connection. As the result of this investigation. a 3kW high frequency PWM IGBT inverter feeding a high frequency isolation transformer with a sinusoidal current wave was selected. The output of the transformer rectified with a diode bridge rectifier four IGBT, used as 60Hz switched, reverse the polarity of the rectified current on every other half cycle of the utility voltage. Even though the high frequency link system used more power semiconductors, a net size, weight, and parts cost saving result compared to the other systems due to elimination of 60Hz transformer.

  • This paper is about the relations between the electric multiple unit and ESS(Energy Storage system, here after) applying bi-direction Buck-Boost Converter. ESS may be possible to suppress the line voltage drops and the power loading fluctuations and to save the regeneration power lapses. This paper confirm for simulation that ESS reusing regenerative power generated during braking in train. Also, presents the influence of regenerative power variation of train and catenary acceptability for energy saving obtained by applying the ESS to Daejeon Metro line 1.

Loss Minimization Control for Induction Generators in Wind Power Systems Using Support Vector Regression

  • In this paper, a novel algorithm for increasing the steady state efficiency during light load operation of the induction generator that integrated with a wind power generation system is presented. The proposed algorithm based on the flux level reduction, where the flux level is estimated using Support-Vector -Machines for regression (SVR) for the optimum d-axis current of the generator. SVR is trained off-line to estimate the unknown mapping between the system's inputs and outputs, and then is used online to calculate the optimum d-axis current for minimizing generator loss. The experimental results show that SVR can define the flux-power loss accurately and determine the optimum d-axis current value precisely. The loss minimization process is more effective at low wind speed and the percent of power saving can approach to 40%.

  • Recent energy efficiency policy of green growth for stable power supply is required. Urban transit vehicles is limited to reduce the use of power without reducing the number of runs. Accordingly, when urban rail vehicles is braking, the occurrence of regenerative power is systemically maximized for the purpose of saving energy. As a result when it is braking, the generated power efficiently is used and looking for a way to reduce the electrical energy. In this paper, the brake control system of the Subway Line 3 is analyzed the effect to meet the required regenerative braking produced electricity through minimizing air braking force of service braking.

  • LED backlight for LCD TV is a great alternative to CCFL backlight due to its low power consumption and flexible arrangement. Various LED backlight configurations are being used to control the backlight locally in order to achieve both power efficiency and high contrast. However, the relatively small spatial resolution of the backlight system results in showing artifacts of backlight control that is acknowledgeable to human vision. Moreover, such artifacts get worse between temporal frames. In this paper we present a method of decreasing such temporal artifacts with a Human Visual System(HVS) approach to minimize distortion caused by local backlight dimming.

  • For electric traction using a large power converter, harmonic problem in the p-ower quality and regenerating energy in side of efficiency are important. Recently, by advance in power electronics technology, some countries are considering regenerative inverter from the points of view. when the electric tractions are stopped or driven through the falling slope way, it is very useful to supply surplus energy to the power source by regenerating system in the efficient side of energy and it is very economical. these regenerating energy are supported electrical equipment through DC line. In this research, the purposes are suppressing extra DC-line voltage and saving energy generated while electric traction is been driving on the falling slope way or reducing speed for railway using a 1500V DC-voltage. Besides, the accompanied defects of current distortion, low power factor and the voltage unbalance will be solved by developing the algorism of inverter having ability to compensate current harmonic.
