  • Recently, the development of offshore wind farms based on past technical experiences from onshore wind turbine installations has become a worldwide issue. This study investigated the technical issues related to offshore wind farms and large-diameter monopiles from an economic perspective. In particular, the monopile foundation system (MFS), which is the most important part of the proposed fast construction system, is applied for the first time in Korea, and structural verification is essential because it supports large-diameter monopiles and is in charge of excavation. Therefore, in this study, a rapid construction system for large offshore wind power generators was introduced, and stability verification was performed through the structural analysis of the MFS.

  • Currently the variety of governmental business support and research for supplying solar energy have been actively progressed. As of now, however, There are no practical testing infrastructures of grid-connected photovoltaic system which test performance of solar power facility in domestic. Therefore, in KEPRI, there is in progress construction of practical testing ground of 500 kW class grid-connected PV System for developing the evaluation of the performance technology including the Module, PCS, and etc, that is the important instrument of the PV System, in Gochang area. It analyzed the site creation work for constructing the practical testing ground and new construction of control room and the unit standards, specifications and capacity of required equipment. For the system detailed design, configuration, instrument-specific parameters established, power generation predictions of Array Type and the components of testing ground are needed to build.

  • High capacity UPS and emergency generators are commonly employed at facilities where power interruption is not allowed. Nowadays, combinations of existing commercial incoming power and an emergency generator or combination of multiple generators and CTTS(Closed Transition Transfer Switch) is adopted sometimes for more reliable power supply. In this paper, application of CTTS and STS(Static Transfer Switch) to dual-power line is suggested for highly reliable uninterruptible power. By realizing such a system, construction of incoming power facilities, installation of emergency generator and large capacity UPS can be omitted, through which saving of the installation space and corresponding capital investment can be expected.

  • Cost, schedule, and quality are the three major performance indicators for any construction project. Under the globalized competition in the nuclear industry, researchers and practitioners have also explored a systemized and integrated management system for cost, schedule, and quality. In order to address this issue, the concept of earned value management system (EVMS) has been often utilized. However, implementing EVMS for a mega-project of nuclear power plant (NPP) construction requires extensive overhead efforts. Though previous studies proposed structures and methods for effective NPP EVMS, there has been no legitimate study for data collection strategy for practical implementation. In this context, the purpose of this paper is to develop an effective data collection strategy for NPP EVMS. Firstly, the barriers to practical NPP EVMS were identified based on literature review and expert interviews. Strategies for data collection were then developed based on different phases of project life cycle. This study focuses on the 'life-cycle integrated progress management system' for NPP construction from an owner's perspective Therefore, results of this study can be used as a guide for preparing request for proposals (RFP) of an NPP owner organization.

  • The object of this study is to propose the simplified power demand control system which is appliable to existing buildings or new buildings. Through the technical survey and power demand analysis in office buildings, the electric facilities which can be controlled are selected. Power demand control program can be controlled the electric facilities in order, and displayed the facility operation state. The proposed power demand control system is cost-effective and flexibly adoptable in system upgrade or retrofit.

  • Nuclear power plants in Korea are usually built based on a duplicated model; so the project cost data of the preceding unit can be used as reference when estimating the project cost for the succeeding unit. However, since the contracting method is oriented towards the price, empirical factors such as making top-down estimations using the reverse calculation method based on the completion cost of the preceding unit is dominant. In order to develop a project cost database to resolve such problems, the detailed cost boundary of the project cost data must be categorized by project and by system. This study proposes a method to connect the code of account with the base quantities and the IAEA account, and proposes a database structure for the development of a project cost estimation system. The estimation system developed in the future is expected to utilize the proposed project cost data structure.

  • Large capacity UPS and emergency generators are being installed and operated at the specific target of important electric facilities that need uninterruptible power supply by the method of countermeasure against power failure for the less reliable incoming power method. Recently, CTTS (Closed Transition Transfer Switch) is being used as uninterruptible power transfer switch at the Common sources of electricity, generator and multiple generators. In this paper, construction plans for uninterruptible power supply system has been suggested in which CTTS has been applied to the secondary of incoming power generator for reliable common dual system method. By briefing the construction of incoming power facilities, large capacity UPS, emergency generator installation space and investment saving effects can be achieved.

  • The proposed site selection for transmission system construction is applied by KEPCO's regulation of the site selection criteria and it is confirmed through the deliberation of site selection committee and talking with local authority, by means of study on Present status and site survey, to verify impediment of national land use and development plan. Therefore, it is true that KEPCO has difficulty in timely completion of power facility construction because of civil appeals due to insufficiently evaluate resistance factor of stakeholder and stubborn resistance of inhabitants. This paper describes the PEES(power effect estimation system) which contributed to timely completion of transmission system construction to solve the above difficulty by utilizing IT(Information Technology) such as GIS(Geographic Information System) and LiDAR for the proposed site section. PIES evaluates project impacts on commencement of construction and finds out counter measures then makes public construction information after prediction and analysis of stakeholder's resistance factor.

  • Despite efforts to reduce unexpected accidents at confined construction sites, choking accidents continue to occur. Because of the poorly ventilated atmosphere, particularly in long, confined underground spaces, workers are subject to dangerous working conditions despite the use of artificial ventilation. Moreover, the traditional monitoring methods of using portable gas detectors place safety inspectors in direct contact with hazardous conditions. In this study, a long-range (LoRa)-based wireless safety monitoring system that features the network organization, fault-tolerant, power management, and a graphical user interface (GUI) was developed for underground construction sites. The LoRa wireless data communication system was adopted to detect hazardous gases and oxygen deficiency within a confined underground space with adjustable communication range and low power consumption. Fault tolerance based on the mapping information of the entire wireless sensor network was particularly implemented to ensure the reliable operation of the monitoring system. Moreover, a sleep mode was implemented for the efficient power management. The GUI was also developed to control the entire safety-monitoring system and to manage the measured data. The developed safety-monitoring system was validated in an indoor testing and at two full-scale water pipeline construction sites.
