Evaluation of Ageing Characteristics of Polymeric Insulators for Distribution Lines by Tracking Wheel Test (Tracking wheel 시험을 통한 배전용 폴리머애자 열화특성 평가)

  • This study describes the results of aging characteristics of polymer insulators through the tracking wheel test. In order to evaluate the reliability of polymer insulators, 4 polymer insulators which used in the field were selected. Electrical tests such as power frequency voltage test, steep-front impulse voltage test were performed after tracking wheel test. Chemical structure and contact angle were measured for investigating an aging characteristics. Although some changes have occurred on the surface of insulator, there are no critical changes between new and tracking wheel tested insulator.

  • In this paper, a DSP-based test apparatus for Control Rod Drive Mechanism (CRDM) that is used in nuclear power plants is described. Using this apparatus, we can test the mechanical and electrical characteristics of CRDM and obtain some information about how to improve the CRDM further and how to design a power controller to actuate the CRDM. Since firing angles can be directly applied to the gate-drive circuits of thyristors in the power controller by using this apparatus, the maximum and minimum values of firing angles within available limits are easily measured. Also step-current inputs help us investigate each coil's response characteristics. Therefore, we can easily find the range of control gains which enables a stable CRDM operation in insertion and withdrawal actions at high speed, mid speed, and low speed. Since this apparatus has a test mode in which an insertion or withdrawal action is divided into several phases so that the current command for each phase is given step by step, we may judge whether the CRDM works as expected or not. We also describe a fault detection capability of the test apparatus for the power controller by using discrete Fourier transform.

Low Power Scan Chain Reordering Method with Limited Routing Congestion for Code-based Test Data Compression

  • Various test data compression techniques have been developed to reduce the test costs of system-on-a-chips. In this paper, a scan chain reordering algorithm for code-based test data compression techniques is proposed. Scan cells within an acceptable relocation distance are ranked to reduce the number of conflicts in all test patterns and rearranged by a positioning algorithm to minimize the routing overhead. The proposed method is demonstrated on ISCAS '89 benchmark circuits with their physical layout by using a 180 nm CMOS process library. Significant improvements are observed in compression ratio and test power consumption with minor routing overhead.

  • In this paper, we propose an antirandom pattern-based test method considering power consumption to compensate for the problem that the fault coverage through random test decreases or the test time increases significantly when the DUT circuit structure is complex or large. In the proposed method, a group unit test pattern generation process and rearrangement process are added to improve the problems of long calculation time and high-power consumption, which are disadvantages of the previous antirandom test.

  • A PV system inverter test module using RTDS was developed and performance test of a commercial PV inverter was carried out. The developed module consists of one RTDS hardware rack, RTDS software models representing PV array and simple distribution system, and two power amplifiers that was specifically designed for generating power corresponding to signals from RTDS. Performance test results verified effectiveness and reliability of the test module. It is expected that the developed test module may help PV inverter manufacturers improve ana test their systems in the developing stage.

  • An evaluation of underwater - repair coating materials was based on the premise that defective areas of the existent epoxy coating such as blistering and cracking will be repaired on spot under submerged condition. Tests include the clarification as to whether they are compatible between as-built coating and new repair coating on each concrete specimen. Candidate coating materials for repair were tested in a laboratory to scrutinize their suitability to perform the needed function satisfactorily. The qualification tests performed are as a minimum as follows: Integrated radiation tolerance test, chemical resistance test (submerged condition in deionized water), hardness test and adhesion test of the repair materials. The proper repair coating materials were selected and approved from this test results.

  • In recent years, ESS (Energy Storage System) has been widely used in various parts of a power system. Especially, due to its fast response time and high ramp rate, ESS is known to play an important role in regulating grid frequency and providing rotational inertia. As the number of installed and commercially operating ESSs increases, the reliability becomes an important issue. This paper introduces control schemes and presents its test method for grid-connected ESS for primary frequency regulation. The test method allows to verify the control operation in the individual operation mode and state. A validation of the method through actual ESS test in a electrical substation is presented in the case study section.

  • This paper studies on the outdoor field test facilities which are established for weather-resist and mechanical-resist property teat of composite insulator. We have established measuring and data acquisition system for various test conditions -leakage current, temperature, humidity, wind direction, wind velocity and rainfall. The merry-go-round test and salt fog test have been studied in order to evaluate non tracking property of rubber material. Especially we have checked the relationship between hydrophobicity and outdoor exposure degree by contact angle measurement.

  • This paper is written for the development and application of boiler furnace pressure control algorithm and distributed control system of coal-fired power plant by the steps of design, coding, simulation test, site installation and site commissioning test. The control algorithms were designed in the shape of cascade control for two parts of furnace pressure control and induced draft fan pitch blade by standard function blocks. This control algorithms were coded to the control programs of distributed control systems. The simulator for coal-fired power plant was used in the test step and automatic control, sequence control and emergency stop tests were performed successfully like the tests of the actual power plant. The reliability was obtained enough to be installed at the actual power plant and all of distributed control systems had been installed at power plant and all signals were connected mutually. Tests for reliability and safety of plant operation were completed successfully and power plant is being operated commercially. It is expected that the project result will contribute to the safe operation of domestic new and retrofit power plants, the self-reliance of coal-fired power plant control technique and overseas business for power plant.

  • DC transit system has been adopted in the metropolitan area, Korea since 1974. Electric multiple (EMU) in this system always reiterates that acceleration and retardation. When EMU decelerates using electric breaking, regenerative power occurs. Regenerative power can be consumed in vicinity EMU on the same line or in resistor. If DC transit system has inverter for reusing regenerative power, Energy efficiency in DC transit system and the replacement cycle of brake shoe in EMU will be increased and dust due to mechanical braking decreased. This paper present the developed inverter for regenerative power and its test equipment. Test for developed inverter is performed at test equipment and is divided into three items, which are regeneration mode, active filter mode, and system link test.
