  • For the power line communication, we studied its characteristic impedance, noise characteristics, loss characteristics and the coupling circuit between the communication MODEM and power lines. As the results of the experiments, we concluded that the power line impedance in a house varied in the wide range because the electric systems generate the current and voltage hamornic noises.

  • The 3-D power distribution synthesis scheme was implemented in Totally Integrated Core Operation Monitoring System (TICOMS), which is under development as the next generation core monitoring system. The on-line 3-D core power distribution obtained from the measured fixed incore detector readings is used to construct the hot pin power as well as the core average axial power distribution. The core average axial power distribution and the hot pin power of TICOMS were compared with those of the current digital on-line core monitoring system, COLSS, which construct the core average axial power distribution and the pseudo hot pin power. The comparison shows that TICOMS results in the slightly more accurate core average axial power distribution and the less conservative hot pin power. Therefore, these results increased the core operating margins. In addition, the on-line 3-D power distribution is expected to be very useful for the core operation in the future.

  • 마이크로스트립 선로 형태의 전송선로 밑면에 플로팅 동판을 위치시키면 플로팅 동판과 접지면 사이의 단락 또는 개방 연결에 따라 전송선로는 마이크로스트립 선로 또는 코플라나 선로 형태로 동작하게 된다. 이러한 동작은 하나의 전송 선로 폭에 대해 서로 다른 두 개의 특성 임피던스를 가질 수 있음을 의미한다. 플로팅 동판이 존재하는 마이크로스트립 전송 선로를 이용하여 안정적인 입력 정합 상태를 가지며 조건에 따라 단순히 신호를 전달하는 2-단자 전력 전송 선로 또는 전력 분배가 가능한 2-way 전력 분배 회로로 동작할 수 있는 가변 전송선로를 제안 및 제작하였다. 제안된 회로는 코플라나 선로로 동작하는 경우에는 전력 전송 선로로 동작하고, 마이크로스트립 선로로 동작하는 경우에는 2-way 전력 분배 회로로 동작한다. 제작된 가변 전송 선로는 700 MHz 이상의 주파수에서 전력 전송 선로로 동작하는 경우 -0.2 dB 이내의 전달 손실($S_{21}$)과 -15 dB 이하의 반사 계수($S_{11}$)를 보였으며, 전력 분배 선로로 동작하는 경우에는 -10 dB 이하의 반사 계수($S_{11}$), -3.8 dB이내의 전달 손실($S_{21}$ or $S_{31}$), ${\pm}0.3dB$이내의 출력 전력차($S_{21}/S_{31}$)를 보였다.

  • A new 3-phase line-interactive UPS(Uninterruptible Power Supply) system with parallel-series active power-line conditioning capability using AC line reactor and two four-leg PWM VSCs(Voltage Source Converters) was introduced recently, In this paper, the strategy of voltage control in suggested UPS system is explained. The objective of proposed voltage controllers in parallel(shunt) and series PWM VSC is to guarantee satisfactory characteristics in steady state and transient state.

  • A method for calculation of mutual inductance from the parallel power-line and earth conduct to communication-line is studied in the paper. The solution for the electromagnetic field produced by an overhead power-line is derived using Maxwell's equations and treating the as a boundary value problem. Total mutual inductance from direct current and image current to communication-line is used Carson's formula for infinitely long parallel conductors.

  • In this paper, we proposed a MAC protocol which can be used in power line communications(PLC). In the power line communication network, the data signal cannot travel long distance because of a serious attenuation. Consequently, we need to have a number of repeaters (amplifiers) in order to recover the signal power, which causes flooding problem in the network The proposed MAC protocol uses polling concept and solves the flooding problem in the power line communication network. The proposed protocol can be applied to power line communication networks for automatic power distribution control system. A mathematical analysis has been carried out to estimate the performance of the proposed protocol.

  • The tendency of lightning surge to propagate displays the difference for applicable power and equipment. However, looking into the subject equipment with the lightning surge, the lightning surge can be divided in between the two lines of power, between the power line and the ground, the power line and the PE conductor, between the neutral line and the ground and the like. In addition, in the event of the communication equipment, there exists the case of lightning surge entered from the power line in addition to the entry between the communication lines, the communication line and the ground. In this study, the tendency of propagation of lightning surge penetrated on to the subject equipment is analyzed through the empirical experiment in accordance with the ground method by using the independent ground, common ground, bypass arrester and others among the techniques for safety improvement in power lines.

  • The distribution live-line work method is an operation method of working in a state in which electricity flows through overhead distribution lines to minimize inconvenience to electric customers due to power failure. In June 2016, to strengthen the safety of electrical workers, Korea Electric Power Corporation announced that it would in principle abolish the rubber glove method, in which workers wore protective equipment such as rubber gloves and performed their maintenance work. In addition, KEPCO announced that it would develop a short-range live working method using smart sticks and an advanced live-line maintenance robot system where workers work without touching wires directly. This paper is a preliminary study for the development of the live-line maintenance robot system, and deals with the results of analyzing the technical feasibility of whether the live works performed by workers can be replaced by robots or not.

  • Overhead transmission lines are mainly crossing mountainous area. They are easily affected in weathers like typhoon, strong wind, lightning, heavy rain, or heavy snow. Sometimes these weathers cause transmission line faults. A lightning flashover is most often fault. Nowadays lightning density in KOREA is growing high and lightning flashovers occur more often. A lightning flashover on transmission line is mostly cleared by momentary operation of a circuit breaker, so power failure happens rarely. However, when both circuits trip simultaneously due to the lightning flashovers on double circuit transmission line, short time power failure and voltage drop happen. KEPCO has used transmission line arresters to avoid double circuit simultaneous trip out since 2003. And transmission line arresters cannot be installed with KEPCO's present metal fittings, so various fittings have been used for each transmission line arrester manufacturer. This paper introduces development and standardization of arc-horn and metal fittings for transmission line arrester which can be used for both existing lines and new lines in KEPCO.
