Force Control of a Pneumatic Driving System With a Long Transmission Line (전달관로를 고려한 공기압 구동장치의 힘 제어에 관한 연구)

  • In the present study, a robust controller has been designed to control force for a pneumatic driving system considering the effect of a transmission line. Transfer characteristics of pneumatic transmission line should be changed according to the velocity of the air going through the transmission line. The designed controller is composed of two parts. The one is a feedback controller, which is composed of a stabilizing filter, a compensating filter of modelling error and a nominal model of the force control system, to compensate the influence of transmission line and improve the feedback characteristics of the control system, and, the other is a feedforward controller to achieve the control performance. Control results with the designed controller show that the robustness and performance of the control system are improved compared to the control results with a fixed gain controller.

The Development of a Balancing Control System for the Anti-Rolling Rail of a Delivery Ship (용달선의 횡 동요를 억제하기 위한 곡선레일의 수평유지장치 개발)

  • A delivery ship is used to handle the cargo with the crane to/from the ships. The ship is inclined in the direction of a cargo which is hung on a crane. In this case, a arc shaped rail should be in the equilibrium state to get good anti rolling performance. In this study, a device and control algorithm are developed to take accurate and quick equilibrium of the rail. The device is composed of a hinged immovable support and two screw jacks. And the control algorithm demands two controllers. One controller is designed such that the screw jack 1 and 2 follow the position reference signal generated by a tilt sensor. The other controller of two degree of freedom is designed to remove the synchronous error occurred between jack 1 and jack 2. The simulation results show that the desirable control performance is achieved.

And the control system is based on I-PD control law to consider of control input saturation and overshoot. The controller is composed of integral controller of feedforward path and proportional-derivative controller of feedback path. The parameters of controller is designed to follow the reference signal and to remove overshoot. The simulation results show that the desirable control performance is achieved.

  • This paper deals with the issue of position tracking control of a clamp-cylinder for injection moulding machine with electric-hydrostatic drives. A fixed displacement pump is utilized in combination with AC motor in order to directly control a clamp-cylinder. A clamp-cylinder may be required to operate under a variety of operating conditions. Therefore, robust control performance is important in position tracking control applications. In order to accommodate mismatches between the real plant and the model used for controller design, discrete-time sliding mode control is developed by combining a velocity feedforward loop. From tracking control experiments, it is shown that significant reduction in position tracking error is achieved through the use of sliding mode control.

  • In recent years, a number of thyristor-controlled shunt compensators have been used in industrial and utility systems for phase balancing, power-factor correction and flicker reduction. This paper describes a simple and basic control scheme and circuits for shunt compensator with a fixed capacitor and thyristor-controlled reactor. Feedforward-control scheme is applied, and compensating currents are computed from the symmetrical components of the disturbed system. A 8 bit microprocessor is used for the computation of the compensating currents as well as for the measurements of the symmetric components. A 3-phase 1 KVA compensator is developed and a good reduction of the unbalance factor of the power source is achieved using it.

  • This paper presents a filtering method using neural networks to extract fundamental frequency components of the transient wave signals in power systems. Based on the ability of multilayer feedforward neural networks to approximate any continuous function, a neural networks mapping filter is proposed for the protective distance relaying systems to extract the effective components efficiently. A characteristic feature of this mapping filter is composed of the multilayer perceptron neural networks which are trained by using random signals and those are mapped to the DFT filtering computational structure by GDR(Generalized Delta Rule). The advantage of this approach is demonstrated by the random waves and the fault transient wave signals of EMTP(electromagnetic transients program) in power systems fault conditions. The proposed method is compared with the conventional method and the simulation results show the efficiency of the neural networks.

Speed Control for a PMSM Servo System Using Model Reference Adaptive Control and an Extended State Observer

  • In this paper, the speed regulation problem of permanent synchronous motor (PMSM) systems under the vector control framework is studied. A model reference adaptive controller (MRAC) based on the Lyapunov stability theory is first designed. Since the standard MRAC method provides poor disturbance rejection performance in the case of strong disturbances, a composite control method which combines the MRAC method and the disturbance estimation method, called the MRAC+ESO method, is proposed. An extended state observer (ESO) is introduced to estimate the lumped disturbances. The obtained estimated value acts as a feedforward compensation term to the MRAC controller. A stability analysis of the composite control method is given. Simulation and experimental results are presented and compared to show the effectiveness of the proposed control method.

  • In this paper, a high speed motor drive system using an indirect adaptive neural network controller is proposed. In the variable high speed motor drives, the speed response can be deteriorated by long settling time and high overshoot. To obtain a good dynamical performance, an adaptive feedforward controller consisted of Neural Network Controller(NNC) and Neural Network Emulator(NNE) is applied. The NNE is used to identify the parameters and characteristics of high speed motor. To train the controller, the weights are dynamically adjusted using the back propagation algorithm. Computer simulation and implementation of the proposed system is described.

Simultaneous Estimation of Rotor Speed and Rotor Resistance of an Induction Motor Using Variable Rotor Flux

  • In this paper, a new speed sensorless induction motor scheme which can estimate rotor speed and rotor resistance simultaneously is presented. The rotor flux with a low frequency sinusoidal waveform is used to conduct on-line simultaneous estimation of the rotor speed and rotor resistance. Hence the proposed sensorless control method is robust to rotor resistance variations. Also, the control scheme has no current minor loop to determine voltage references. It contributes to good control performance at low speeds. Some simulation results supported by experiments are given to show the effectiveness of this method.

  • This paper presents a novel prototype of a current source resonant inverter using insulated gate bipolar transistors for driving a streamer reactor, streamer generation technology has been recognized as one of the best methods for water treatment, disinfection, industrial wastes utilization, and so on. However, some technological difficulties related to efficient streamer production have been significant problems restricting streamer usage in the industrial plants. Introduced in this paper is a pulse density modulated high frequency inverter for a plasma generate, which is developed with the aim to improve power conversion and control characteristics of the streamer reactor by using advances in power electronic technology. The developed system implements the feedforward control-based pulse density modulation control scheme with pulse width modulation feedback control strategy to compensate temperature and other environmental influences on streamer discharge.
