  • This paper proposes a novel high-efficiency high-step-up interleaved converter with a voltage multiplier, which is suitable for electric vehicle power management applications. The proposed interleaved converter is capable of achieving high step-up conversion by employing a voltage-multiplier circuit. The proposed converter lowers the input-current ripple, which can extend the input source's lifetime, and reduces the voltage stress on the main switches. Hence, large voltage spikes across the main switches are alleviated and the efficiency is improved. Finally, a prototype circuit with an input voltage of 24 V, an output voltage of 380 V, and an output rated power of 1 kW is implemented and tested to demonstrate the functionality of the proposed converter. Moreover, satisfying experimental results are obtained and discussed in this paper. The measured full-load efficiency is 95.2%, and the highest measured efficiency of the proposed converter is 96.3%.

  • This paper presentes a novel single-phase unity power factor rectifer, which features Critical Conduction Mode and ZVS. The reduced conduction losses are achieved by the employment of a single converter instead of the typical configuration composed of a front end rectifier followed by a boost converter. Theoretical analysis, a design example and experimental results of a 300 converter with $127V_{rms}$ input voltage and 400 VDC output voltage are presented.

  • This paper presents a high-efficiency power conditioning system (PCS) for grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) modules. The proposed PCS consists of a step-up DC-DC converter and a single-phase DC-AC inverter for the grid-connected PV modules. A soft-switching step-up DC-DC converter is proposed to generate a high DC-link voltage from the low PV module voltage with a high-efficiency. A DC-link voltage controller is presented for constant DC-link voltage regulation. A half-bridge inverter is used for the single-phase DC-AC inverter for grid connection. A grid current controller is suggested to supply PV electrical power to the power grid with a unity power factor. Experimental results are obtained from a 180 W grid-connected PV module system using the proposed PCS. The proposed PCS achieves a high power efficiency of 93.0 % with an unity power factor for a 60 Hz / 120 Vrms AC power grid.

  • In this paper, we propose a noncoherent On-Off Keying (OOK) Ultra Wide Band (UWB) system based on power detection with noise power calibration for low power applications. The proposed UWB system achieves good bit error rate performance which is favorably comparable to that of the system using the ideal adaptive threshold, while maintaining simple receiver structure, In addition, low power Analog Front-End (AFE) blocks for the proposed noncoherent UWB transceiver are proposed and verified using CMOS technology. Simulation results on the pulse generator, delay time generator and 1-bit Analog-to-Digital (AID) converter show feasibility of the proposed UWB AFE system.

  • The power supply systems, which require low-voltage / high-current output has been changing from the conventional centralized power system to a distributed power system. The distributed power system consists of a bus converter and POL. The most important factor is the system stability in bus architecture design. The overlap between the output impedance of a bus converter input impedance of POL causes system instability and has been an actual problem. By increasing the bus capacitor, the system stability can be easily improved. However, due to limited space on the system board, the increasing of bus capacitors is impractical. An urgent solution of this issue is strongly desired. This paper presents the output impedance design for on-board distributed power system by means of three control schemes of a bus converter. The output impedance peak of the bus converter and the input impedance of the POL are analyzed and then conformed experimentally for stability criterion. Furthermore, the design process of each control schemes for system stability is proposed.

  • In this study, a high-efficiency flyback converter that uses a soft-switching auxiliary circuit is proposed. The structure of the proposed converter adds an inductor, switch, diode, and capacitor to the conventional flyback converter. The switch in the auxiliary circuit and the main switch are turned on and off under soft-switching conditions. Therefore, the switching losses of the proposed flyback converter are considerably smaller than those of conventional flyback converters. The performance of the proposed flyback converter is validated by experiments on a 100 W single-output flyback converter prototype, and design guidelines are presented.

  • A new type of soft-switching forward converter is proposed in this study. By adding only a few components, the inductor, diode, switch, and capacitor exhibit higher efficiency than the conventional forward converter. Therefore, the switching losses of the proposed forward converter are considerably reduced compared with those of the conventional forward converter. In addition, the reset winding is not used because of the capacitor employed in the auxiliary circuit. The auxiliary capacitor is adopted for zero-current-transition operation and for dissipating magnetization energy. The performance of the proposed forward converter is validated using experimental results from a 60 W, single-output, forward converter prototype, and design guidelines are presented.

  • A higher-order power converter topology for an extremely low coupling (less than 0.15) transformer with high efficiency and wide air-gap (23 mm) is presented in this paper. Among the typical resonant converter topologies for contact-less power transferring systems, Series-Series Resonant Converter (SSRC) and Series-Parallel Resonant Converter (SPRC) are widely used in number of power electronic applications. However, when coupling coefficient of a transformer is seriously low (k<0.5), the series-series resonant converter will possibly operate at short circuited condition because of the small magnetizing impedance. To solve this problem, a modified and improved topology of seventh-order resonant converter for contact-less power converter system is proposed and the results are presented.

  • Currently, to overcome the limit of a 14V power supply system and to enhance the stability of this system high and to make the fuel efficiency better, a research development of a 42V power supply system is actively the progress. As an intermediate step to change into an unity power supply system, a 42V/14V dual power supply system uses a DC/DC Converter as one of structure elements. Considering the main electric power sources in the next generation of the car is a 42V system a 14V power supply system has advantages as follows : In be managed efficiently and to increase the redundancy at start, to jump start with any vehicles, etc. We need the introduction of a hi-directional converter that can flow the energy each other in a dual 42V-l2V system. This paper proposed the ZVS hi-directional CUK DC/DC converter which decrease the weight with the size of the DC/DC Converter and minimize the loss when the switching happen. In this paper, a circuit design method and an action principle of the circuit was proposed. To verify the proposed circuit, a comprehensive evaluation with theoretical analysis, simulation results is presented.

  • In this paper, we developed a bidirectional LDC(Low DC-DC converter) for vehicle which is composed of a full bridge converter and a current doubler at the second side. The LDC is a converter that converts DC input from one side to DC output on the other side, and the converter which was developed in this thesis is capable of transferring power in both directions. It has been verified that the developed LDC has 90% efficiency at 1400W and approximately 85% efficiency at 2KW.
