  • This paper reviews the characteristics of Power MOSFET device technology that are leading to improvements in power loss for power electronic system. The silicon bipolar power transistor has been displaced by silicon power MOSFET's in low and high voltage system. The power electronic technology requires the marriage of power device technology with MOS-gated device and bipolar analog circuits.

  • The low rank coal combustion and biomass-coal co-firing characteristics were reviewed on this study for the power plant construction. The importance of using low rank coal(LRC) for power plant is increasing gradually due to power generation economy and biomass co-firing is also concentrated as power source because it has carbon neutral characteristics to reduce green-house effect. The combustion characteristics of low rank coal and biomass for a 310MW coal firing power plant and a 100MW biomass and coal co-firing power plant were studied to apply into actual power plant design and optimized the furnace and burner design.

  • Degree of crosslinking of insulation is very important factor that is determined characteristics of XLPE insulated power cable. Increase of degree of crosslinking is closely related to increase of mechanical characteristics of XLPE insulated power cable. In this study, mechanical characteristics of XLPE insulation for degree of crosslinking was analyzed tensile strength and elongation of insulation. As the result, mechanical characteristics of insulation for degree of crosslinking was divided three cases.

  • Hydrogen linear power system is estimated as the next generation power system which can obtain a performance as same as fuel cell. In order to develop Hydrogen combustion power system with high thermal efficiency, it is very important to understand the basic characteristics of hydrogen combustion and establish combustion stabilization technique of its system. In this study, RICEM(Rapid Intake Compression Expansion Machine) for researching of hydrogen combustion linear power system was manufactured and evaluated, and the basic characteristics of linear RICEM were analyzed.

  • This paper discussed the theoretical simulation results for developing the blumlein pulsed power source and showed the circuit configuration and the discharge characteristics of the realistic manufactured pulsed power system. In the simulation, the output voltage characteristics at a load resistor showed the general impulse shape when the impedance of a single coaxial cable is matched with the that of a load resistor. In addition, it is confirmed that output values of the pulsed power can be easily controlled by the duplication of coaxial cables and the pulsed waveform showed the general impulse characteristics. Specifically, the inception discharge voltage in the gap distance of 5[mm] between needle and plane electrodes is about 20[kV] and which is lower than about 29[kV] in 9[mm] due to the difference of the reaching time of the inception voltage. Therefore, this paper showed that the output voltage of the blumlein pulsed power source can be easily controlled.

  • The performance and lighting characteristics of the LED depend on cooling condition because the power LED generates lots of heat. In this paper, the effect of the generated heat from power LED module on lighting characteristics and performance is measured and evaluated. For experiments, the transient temperature of a power LED module with cooling condition is measured. In addition, the temperature and lighting characteristics of the LED module are measured during the steady state. As a result, the cooling condition is less effective on the lighting characteristics of the LED module at rated current but the cooling condition extremely affects those of the LED module over the rated current. Because high temperature of the power LED module causes the low phosphor conversion, luminance efficiency becomes low and color temperature becomes high. When power LED module are driven over the rated condition, higher temperature is directly related to lighting characteristics and performance of the LED module rather than higher current.

  • In this paper, the steering characteristics of tracked vehicles are studied for the improvement of steering performance. The important design factor of military vehicles is high mobility. It is influenced by weight of a vehicle, engine capacity, power-train, and steering system. The military vehicle, which is equipped with caterpillar, has unique steering characteristics and is quite different from that of a wheeled vehicle. The steering of tracked vehicles is operated in the power pack due to different speeds of both sprockets. Under cornering conditions, power split and power regeneration are happened in the power pack. In case of power regeneration, power is transferred outside track after adding engine power and power inputted inside track from the ground. However, excessive power regeneration is transferred in the power pack. It damages mechanical elements. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the steering system and check mentioned problem above. In this study, the detailed dynamic model of steering system is presented, which includes slippage between track and roadwheel, inertia force, and inertia moment. Finally, our model is compared with the Kitano model and we verified the validity of the model.

  • A thyristor controlled shunt compensator, which is installed in the middle of the transmission line is adopted for controlling real power flow in a simple power transmission system. By means on the Fourier series representation of the thyristor switching action and the system parameters, the thyristor current equations are derived, which transmit the required real power of the simple power transmission system and inform the thyristor firing angle, the thyristor conduction angle, the power flows and the harmonic characteristics EMTP simulations at the various operating points show the dynamic characteristics of the thyristor controlled shunt compensator and correspond to the results calculated with the Fourier series representation.

A Study of Eddy Current Characteristics which Follows in the Corrosion of Power line (전선 부식에 따른 와전류특성 조사)

  • We used eddy current sensor for diagnosis of power line. The power line according to the cross section has 6~18 element wires. The corrosion of power line was made by sodium hydroxide. The corrosion time of power line was from 18 hours to 27 hours. We obtained physical characteristics from tensile and torsion tests of power line. The eddy current Characteristics of power line according to the corrosion appeared change of amplitude 200 ~ 800 mV.

  • In this thesis, output voltage, current and power of solar module were classified by irradiation and module temperature from data of overall operating characteristics collected for one year in order to manage efficient photovoltaic generation system and deliver maximum power. In addition, from these data, correlations between irradiation, module temperature of photovoltaic cell and amount of power given by photovoltaic cell was quantitatively examined to deduce optimization of the design and construction of photovoltaic generation system. The results of this thesis can be summarized as follows. As output power characteristics according to a temperature range of 10$\sim$50[], output power was increased with an increase in temperature. Since output power increases with temperature increase, the result corresponds well to the related equation on temperature and output power.
