The Study on the Efficient HVDC Capacity Considering Extremely Low Probability of 765kV Double Circuit Transmission Lines Trip

  • The load on the power grid of South Korea is expected to grow continuously until the late 2020s, and it is necessary to increase the transfer capacity from the Eastern grid to the Seoul-Gyeonggi region by reinforcing the transmission network for the electric power system to remain stable. To this end, the grid reinforcement by two bipole LCC HVDC transmission systems have been considered on account of the public acceptability and high growth of the fault current level, even though an additional 765kV system construction is more economical. Since the probability of the existing 765kV double circuit transmission line trip is extremely low, a dynamic simulation study was carried out to estimate the efficient HVDC capacity able to stabilize the transient stability by utilizing the HVDC overload capability. This paper suggests the application plan to reduce the HVDC construction capacity with ensuring the transient stability during the 765kV line trip.

Influence of High PV Penetration and STATCOM on Rotor Angle Stability of SMIB Transmission System

  • This paper aims is to study the effect of photovoltaic generation penetration and STATCOM on the transient stability of a single machine infinite bus (SMIB) system based on the rotor angle stability. The influence of STATCOM and PV penetration can be seen through damping oscillations, so that the generator remains stable with the rest of the system for various fault conditions. The simulation results obtained make it possible to efficient identify harmful and beneficial impact of increasing the PV penetration and the existence of STATCOM capability. The system model is created in MATLAB/ SIMULINK software.

  • This paper deals with the design and evaluation of the robust controller for generator excitation system to improve the steady state and transient stabilities. The nonlinear characteristics of the system is treated as model uncertainties, and then the robust control techniques are introduced into the PSS design to take into account these uncertainties at the controller design stage. The performance of the designed controller is examined by extensive non-linear time domain simulation. It is shown that the performance of the robust controller is superior to that of the conventional PSS in all cases studied.

  • 본 논문은, 대표적인 FACTS기기중의 하나인 싸이리스터제어 병렬보상기의 특성 연구를 수행한다. 이를 위하여 푸리에 공간에서 전력조류 조건을 만족하는 싸이리스터 점호각을 수치해석적으로 구하고, 그 계산 결과를 이용하여 정상상태 및 고조파 특성을 해석하였다. 그리고, Poincare Mapping 이론을 이용한 스위칭 주파수영역에서 안정도 해석과 EMTP 시뮬레이션을 이용한 시평면상에서 해석결과의 검증 및 여러 운전점에서 과도응답특성의 비교연구를 수행하였다.

시화호 조력발전소 신설에 따른 전력계통 특성 및 경제적 이득 분석 (A Study on Power System Characteristics and Economic Benefit by Operating the New SIHWA Tidal Power Plant)

  • This paper presents the various analysis of the power system for operating the new SIHWA tidal power plant. In the analysis of the power system, summer load condition of 2011 is used. Especially, power flow, fault current, voltage and contingency of SIHWA tidal power plant area are analyzed by using PSS/E and there is no problem for the dynamic stability simulation. The new SIHWA tidal power plant is located in near metropolitan area where about 43% amount of the system load is consumed. Therefore, transmission losses are reduced. In addition, system marginal price can be lowered by generating the new SIHWA tidal power plant. The generation pattern of the SIHWA tidal plant is analyzed and the changes of generation are presented for various water levels by control of the rotor angle alpha and beta in water wheel generator.

  • The purpose of this paper is to explain the techniques of the data verification module achieved while developing a transient stability program which is suitable to korean power system. It concentrates on the concrete explanation about modeling of the dynamic models and the method of the data verification. This proposed module enhances the performance of the developing program. This developing module has been tested with the KEPCO system, and the simulation results obtained from the program are compared to those of commercial programs.

  • 전력 계통 안정화 장치는 전력시스템에 외란이 발생했을 때 저주파수 동요현상을 효과적으로 저감하는 역할을 한다. 본 논문은 제주-해난 HVDC로 연계된 전력시스템에 설치된 PSS의 적정 파라메커 선정이론을 다루었다. 사용한 알고리즘은 위상지연을 적절한 극좌표 이동법으로 보상하고 설정된 댐핑계수가 되도록 이득계수를 구하는 방법이다. PSS 효과를 검증하기 위해 동태 및 과도안정도를 PSS 설치 전과 후로 비교하였다. MATLAB을 근거로 한 PST 프로그램을 사용하여 사례연구 시스템에 적용한 시뮬레이션 결과는 PSS를 설치하므로써 전력시스템이 안정화되어 만족할 만큼의 댐핑효과를 보았다.

Recursive Design of Nonlinear Disturbance Attenuation Control for STATCOM

  • In this paper, a nonlinear robust control approach is applied to design a controller for the Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM). A robust control dynamic model of STATCOM in a one-machine, infinite-bus system is established with consideration of the torque disturbance acting on the rotating shaft of the generator set and the disturbance to the output voltage of STATCOM. A novel recursive approach is utilized to construct the energy storage function of the system such that the solution to the disturbance attenuation control problem is acquired, which avoids the difficulty involved in solving the Hamilton-Jacobi-Issacs (HJI) inequality. Sequentially, the nonlinear disturbance attenuation control strategy of STATCOM is obtained. Simulation results demonstrate that STATCOM with the proposed controller can more effectively improve the voltage stability, damp the oscillation, and enhance the transient stability of power systems compared to the conventional PI+PSS controller.

A Study on the Dynamic Reduction for Large Power System

  • This paper presents the procedure to construct equivalent model of large power system based on nonlinear time simulation responses. It consists of coherency identification, generator aggregation and network reduction. Coherency index that can be directly implemented to this procedure is proposed. Generator aggregation based on detailed model is performed. This procedure can be used to construct equivalent model in PSS/E. It is also possible to reduce the large power system directly from the nonlinear time responses. This procedure is applied to the transient stability analysis of Korea power system that now experiences rapid changes. The equivalent model is compared with the original model in its size, accuracy, speed and performance. This paper shows that the developed equivalent model is a good estimate of the original system.
