Controller Design and Dynamic Performance Analysis of UPFC based on 3-Level Inverters (3-레벨 인버터 UPFC의 제어기설계와 동특성해석)

  • This paper describes a controller design and dynamic performance analysis of UPFC based on 3-level inverters. Major attention is focused on the controller design for both shunt and series inverters, including regulator design for the dc link voltage sharing across the dc capacitors. An energy-based approach was investigated for effectively designing the controller. A detailed UPFC model has been developed with EMTP using 24-pulse 3-level inverters to verify this approach. Simulation results about dynamic performance of UPFC confirm effects for increasing transmission capacity and damping low-frequency oscillation. The developed simulation model would be very effective to analyze the dynamic performance of UPFC.

  • This paper presented design of an $H_{\infty}$ controller for TCSC to enhance the damping of an inter-area oscillation in KEPCO power system. TCSC location is selected by using eigne sensitivity and frequency response. Nonliner time simulation and eigenvalue analysis show that the proposed TCSC $H_{\infty}$ controller can suppress the inter-area oscillations efficiently with induced reduction model correctly.

  • This paper presents a new systematic contingency selection and screening method for transient stability. The variation of modal synchronizing torque coefficient(MSTC) is computed using eigen-sensitivity analysis of the electromechanical oscillation modes in small signal stability model and contingencies are ranked in decreasing order of the sensitivities of the MSTC(SMSTC). The relevant clusters are identified using the eigenvector or participating factor. The proposed algorithm is tested on the KEPCO system. Ranking obtained by the SMSTC is consistent with the time simulation results by PSS/E.

  • 고주파 유도가열 시스템은 고효율 및 생산의 편의성으로 산업 전반에 걸쳐 다양하게 적용되고 있다. 이러한 고주파 유도 가열 시스템은 크게 정류부, 전압조절부, 공진형 인버터로 구분된다. 공진형 인버터는 공진 주파수로 스위칭 시, 순수 실수 어드미턴스만 남게 되어 최대 효율을 얻는다. 공진 주파수는 공진회로의 입력 어드미턴스에 의해 결정되는데, 용융과정에서 피가열체의 저항 값은 시간에 따라 변화한다. 이는 전체 입력 어드미턴스의 변화와 공진 주파수의 변화로 나타나고, 효율이 저하되는 단점이 있다. 본 논문에서는 공진 인버터의 공진 주파수를 스스로 추종하는 자기공진 추종 토폴로지를 제안한다. 제안된 토폴로지는 고주파 유도가열 시스템의 용융과정에서 피가열체의 저항 값이 시변하여 공진 주파수가 이동하더라도 반주기 내에 정확하게 추종 동작을 한다. 본 논문에서는 제안된 자동 공진 추종회로를 기존의 병렬 공진 유도가열 시스템에 적용하여 타당성을 검증하였다.

  • The purpose of this research was to discuss the system that operated Ultra sonic transducer of Pelzo electric ceramics type. The structure of controller was made up of digital signal part drive and feedback circuit, and half bridge inverter. Digital signal part was designed to gain the stable oscillation frequency by making consideration of pointed resonance bandwidth. We tried to control inverter by forward feedback condition because BLT based on the flexibility of elements such as temperature and load condition. In addition, transducer was operated as inverter in order to enhance its power efficiency. In this experiment, output voltage waveform and current waveform have been observed by using BLT.

  • In this paper, we find out the lifetime index in order to determine the time-dependent trend of deteriorating performance of 6.6kV high-voltage power cable in operation at a power station. The cable systems used in our study have been in operation for 13 years. With measurements for the 13 years, we analyzed the insulation resistances. By developing measuring equipment (comprized mainly of transformer, temperature sensor, and LPF) operating by the three-phase electric power, we analyzed the changing characteristics of insulation resistance of power cable. In contrast to 22kV cables, 6.6 kV cables have thicker insulation. Therefore the characteristics of 6.6kV cables are different from that of 22kV cables. The study found that as time passes, the insulation resistance does not decrease continuously; it decreases to a certain value, then does not decrease any more and shows properties of oscillation. We could not detect the process of deterioration in the preceding twelve years. The cable system showed great stability so that deterioration was not apparent. In this case, it is not possible to measure the future life indices of power cables because the lifetime indices are not predictable

  • This paper presents a scheme on the characteristics of induction motor under the combination of linear & non-linear loads at the three phase 4-wire power distribution system. Under the combination operation of single & three phase load, voltage unbalance will be generated and current unbalance will be more severe by the dropped voltage quality. All power electronic converters used in different types of electronic systems can increase harmonic disturbances by injecting harmonic currents directly into the feeder grid of three phase 4-wire. Harmonic current may cause torque to decrease. Motors may also overheat or become noisy and torque oscillation in the rotor can lead to mechanical resonance and vibration.

An InGaP/GaAs HBT Monolithic VCDRO with Wide Tuning Range and Low Phase Noise

  • The InGaP/GaAs hetero-junction bipolar transistor(HBT) monolithic voltage-controlled dielectric resonator oscillator(VCDRO) is first demonstrated for a Ku-band low noise block down-converter(LNB) system. The on-chip voltage control oscillator core employing base-collector(B-C) junction diodes is proposed for simpler frequency tuning and easy fabrication instead of the general off-chip varactor diodes. The fabricated VCDRO achieves a high output power of 6.45 to 5.31 dBm and a wide frequency tuning range of ]65 MHz( 1.53 $\%$) with a low phase noise of below -95dBc/Hz at 100 kHz offset and -115 dBc/Hz at ] MHz offset. A]so, the InGaP/GaAs HBT monolithic DRO with the same topology as the proposed VCDRO is fabricated to verify that the intrinsic low l/f noise of the HBT and the high Q of the DR contribute to the low phase noise performance. The fabricated DRO exhibits an output power of 1.33 dBm, and an extremely low phase noise of -109 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz and -131 dBc/Hz at ] MHz offset from the 10.75 GHz oscillation frequency.

A Prony Method Based on Discrete Fourier Transform for Estimation- of Oscillation Mode in Power Systems (이산푸리에변환에 기초한 Prony 법과 전력계통의 진동모드 추정)

  • This paper describes an improved Prony method in its speed, accuracy and reliability by efficiently determining the optimal sampling interval with use of DFT (discrete Fourier transformation). In the Prony method the computation time is dominated by the size of the linear prediction matrix, which is given by the number of data times the modeling order The size of the matrix in a general Prony method becomes large because of large number of data and so does the computation time. It is found that the Prony method produces satisfactory results when SNR is greater than three. The maximum sampling interval resulting minimum computation time is determined using the fact that the spectrum in DFT is inversely proportional to sampling interval. Also the process of computing the modes is made efficient by applying Hessenberg method to the companion matrix with complex shift and computing selectively only the dominant modes of interest. The proposed method is tested against the 2003 KEPCO system and found to be efficient and reliable. The proposed method may play a key role in monitoring in real time low frequency oscillations of power systems .

Stability Improvement of Output Voltage Control on the Power Supply for Railways (전동차용 전원장치의 출력전압 제어 안정성 향상)

  • Ths paper describes on the stability improvement of output voltage control on the power suwJy for railway. On the transient states such as input voltage sudden change, the inpJt and output voltage beccxre unstable by L-C resonance occurred due to constant output voltage control. In this paper, the new clamping circuit for system stability is proposed, and control method using band attenuated filter and feed-forward terms is introduced. The propoesd damping circuit is composed with sma1l size R-L. Also, the 3 level PWM method is adopted to decrease distortion of output voltage. The output voltage is controlledl with variation under 10% without oscillation at transient states and have total hanmnic distortion under 3%.der 3%.
