This paper presents an comparative study on the effect of SSSC and UPFC to the power system static analysis. SSSC is used to control active power flow in transmission lines by controlling the phase angle of the injected voltage source which is in rectangular to the line current. UPFC is used to control the magnitude and phase of the injected voltage sources which are connected both in series and in parallel with the transmission line to control power flow and bus voltage. To compare the effect of SSSC and UPFC in power system static analysis, the PSS/E simulation program is used. As the FACTS device model such as SSSC and UPFC is not provided in PSS/E yet, an equivalent load model is used. This procedure is implemented by IPLAN which is an external macro program of PSS/E. The simulation results show that UPFC is more effective to improve bus voltage than SSSC in power system static analysis.
During the conceptual design of turboprop aircraft, the power effect driven from rotating propeller is typically obtained from empirical data. In the present paper, propeller power effect was obtained by using unsteady three-dimensional Navier-Stokes solver with $k-{\omega}$ turbulence model for the accurate prediction of turboprop aircraft performance. In order to simulate the relative motion between propeller and fuselage, unsteady sliding mesh method was used. During simulation, three flow conditions such as climb, cruise and descending flight were selected considering the flight envelop of the real turboprop aircraft. For the correction of aerodynamic coefficients, the thrust effect of engine exhaust gas was included based on the engine manufacturer's data. Using the computational results, the correction table for the aerodynamic coefficient of turboprop aircraft was suggested for the performance analysis of turboprop aircraft.

An electric power compensation system for a DC transmission system with an integrated wind turbine generator is proposed. The proposed compensation system consists of a synchronous generator and a duplex reactor. This apparatus is connected to the sending-end circuit of the DC transmission system. A set of steady-state equations of the system is first derived. Then, the effect of the duplex reactor, which can eliminate the sending-end grid current distortion due to commutation of the converter, is explored. The relationships among power at the sending-end circuit are also revealed. It is shown that fluctuations in the sending-end grid power due to changes in wind velocities are compensated with the proposed system. Finally, the effects of the sending-end grid conditions on the steady-state characteristics of the system are studied.
Wind energy is currently the fastest-growing electricity source worldwide. The cost efficiency of wind generators must be high because these generators have to compete with other energy sources. In this paper, a system that utilizes an open-winding permanent-magnet synchronous generator is studied for wind-energy generation. The proposed system controls generated power through an auxiliary voltage source inverter. The VA rating of the auxiliary inverter is only a fraction of the system-rated power. An adjusted control system, which consists of two main parts, is implemented to control the generator power and the grid-side converter. This paper introduces a study on the effect of unbalanced voltages for the wind-generation system. The proposed system is designed and simulated using MATLAB/Simulink software. Theoretical and experimental results verify the validity of the proposed system to achieve the power management requirements for balanced and unbalanced voltage conditions of the grid.
Warfare information system is a core factor of future combat operation under NCW(Network centric Warfare) environment. In this paper, we proposed a new MOE(Measure of Effectiveness) that can assess the combat power synergistic effect of warfare information system in the theater-level joint fire operation. This new MOE uses the rule of Newton's second law($F=(m{\Delta}{\upsilon})/{\Delta}t{\Rightarrow}(M{\upsilon}I)/T$). Four factors considered in combat power evaluation are network power(M), movement velocity(v), information superiority(I), command and control time(T). We applied this new MOE to the JFOS-K(Joint Fire Operating System-Korea) to assess its combat power effect and compared with other's effects obtained from different MOE.
As in most industrial processes, the dynamic characteristics of an electric power system are subject to changes. Amongst those effects which cause the system to be uncertain, faults on transmission lines are considered. For the stabilization of the power system, we present an indirect adaptive control method, which is capable of tracking a sudden change in the effective reactance of a transmission line. As the plant dynamics are nonlinear, an input-output feedback linearization method equipped with nonlinear damping terms is combined with an identification algorithm which estimates the effect of a fault. The stability of the resulting adaptive nonlinear system is investigated.
A container terminal should concentrate on efficient terminal operation in the long view and analyze an effect through introduction of hi-technology, automated equipments and intelligent information system, when they want to improve their reliability and competitive power in intense global competition. To do this, first this study finds out factors which affect competitive power of a container terminal, and relation between them. And then we used System Dynamics method to analyze an effect according to a value fluctuation of the factors in the long term.
This paper presents a optimal power flow calculation algorithm considering voltage and transient stability. In this method, voltage stability margin and transient stability constraints is incorporated into a optimal power flow calculation formulation to guarantee adequate voltage and transient security levels in power system. In addition, this paper provides the Effect of Nodal Price and decomposed Element in Power System Operation. This Effect can be applied in the Estimation of Electric rates because the Electric market will be Competitive Market. The proposed method is applied to IEEE-24 Reliability Test System and the results shows the effectiveness of the method.
Wind power is one of the fastest growing distributed generation types. As part of a worldwide trend, the concerns of large wind generation have been risen rather than small wind generation since it influences the whole power system Including the transient stability. The objective of this paper is to understand the effect of a large-scale wind generation on power system transient stability and to develop a systematic procedure to assess the effect according to the location and capacity of a wind farm. In the proposed procedure, an index is presented to evaluate the appropriateness of the location and capacity of a wind farm for transient stability contingencies.
