A capacitor self-calibration is proposed to improve the linearity of the capacitor digital-to-analog converter (CDAC) for an asynchronous successive approximation register (SAR) analog-to-digital converter (ADC) with 10-bit resolution. The proposed capacitor self-calibration is performed so that the value of each capacitor of the upper 5 bits of the 10-bit CDAC is equal to the sum of the values of the lower capacitors. According to the behavioral simulation results, the proposed capacitor self-calibration improves the performances of differential nonlinearity (DNL) and integral nonlinearity (INL) from -0.810/+0.194 LSBs and -0.832/+0.832 LSBs to -0.235/+0.178 LSBs and -0.227/+0.227 LSBs, respectively, when the maximum capacitor mismatch of the CDAC is 4%. The proposed 10-bit 20-MS/s asynchronous SAR ADC is implemented using a 110-nm CMOS process with supply of 1.2 V. The area and power consumption of the proposed asynchronous SAR ADC are $0.205mm^2$ and 1.25 mW, respectively. The proposed asynchronous SAR ADC with the capacitor calibration has a effective number of bits (ENOBs) of 9.194 bits at a sampling rate of 20 MS/s about a $2.4-V_{PP}$ differential analog input with a frequency of 96.13 kHz.
The significance of PNT information in the fourth industrial revolution is viewed differently in relation to the past. Autonomous vehicles, autonomous vessels, smart grids, and national infrastructure require sustainable and reliable services in addition to their high precision service. Satellite navigation system, which is the most representative system for providing PNT information, receive signals from satellites outside the earth so signal reception power is low and signal structures for civilian use are open to the public. Therefore, it is vulnerable to intentional and unintentional interference or hacking. Satellite navigation systems, which can easily acquire high performance of PNT information at low cost, require alternatives due to its vulnerability to the hacking. This paper proposed R-Mode (Ranging Mode) technology that utilizes currently operated navigation and communication infrastructure in terms of Signals of OPportunity (SoOP). For this, the Nationwide Differential Global Navigation Satellite System (NDGNSS), which currently gives a service of Medium Frequency (MF) navigation signal broadcasting, was used to validate the feasibility of a backup infrastructure in domestic maritime areas through simulation analysis.
Purpose: The damage from earthquakes with a magnitude of 5.0 or greater Korea has increased in South Korea. When a earthquake occurs, internal facilities and electric equipment besides urban structures will be damaged. Thus, in this paper, an earthquake-induced seismic isolation device with double slip fiction surfaces which can reduce the damage of electric power equipment such as distribution panel and then the seismic performance was evaluated. Method: To evaluate the seismic performance shaking table test was performed, a seismic performance comparison was performed according to the presence or absence of a seismic isolation device. The attenuation effect of the seismic isolation device are analyzed by comparing response acceleration and displacement for different frequencies and acceleration levels. Result: As a result of the test, the acceleration amplification was up to 42% less than when the seismic isolation device was installed in comparison to the other case without the seismic device. This is believed that the amplification energy has reduced because the displacement between the double slip friction surfaces of the seismic device play a role in dissipating the seismic energy. Conclusion: The seismic device with double slip friction surfaces has a greater earthquake attenuation effect in strong earthquakes than in weak ones, so the greater the frequency, the better the earthquake attenuation effect. Therefore, it is judged that earthquake energy can be decreased by applying to electric equipment such as distribution panels.

Since DC has no zero point, an arc occurs when the DC circuit breaker performs a shutdown operation. In this case, a fatal accident may occur in the circuit breaker or in the grid, depending on the magnitude of the arc. Therefore, the shutdown performance and the reliability of the circuit breaker are important in the commercialization of HVDC. In this study, a superconducting LC circuit breaker was proposed to improve the performance and the reliability of the DC circuit breaker. The superconducting LC circuit breaker applied a superconducting coil to the inductor of the existing LC circuit breaker. Other than limiting the initial fault current, it also creates a stable zero point in the event of a fault current. To verify this, simulation was performed through EMTDC/PSCAD. Furthermore, the superconducting LC circuit breaker was compared with the LC circuit breaker with a normal coil. As a result, it was found that the LC circuit breaker with the superconducting coil limited the initial fault current further by approximately 12 kA compared to the LC circuit breaker with a normal coil. This reduced the arc extinguish time by approximately 0.16 sec, thereby decreasing the elctrical power burden on the circuit breaker.

Technologies for an MVDC(medium voltage direct current) distribution system are being considered as an effective alternative to overcome the interconnection delay issues of PV systems. However, the implementation of a DC distribution system might lead to economic problems because of the development of DC devices. Therefore, this paper deals with the scale of a PV plant based on its capacity and proposes hosting-capacity models for PV systems to establish a network to evaluate the feasibility of an MVDC distribution system. The proposed models can be classified as AC and DC distribution systems by the power-supply method. PV systems with hundreds of MW, dozens of MW, and a few MW can be categorized as large-scale, medium-scale, and small-scale models, respectively. This paper also performed modeling for an economic evaluation of MVDC distribution system by considering both the cost of AC and DC network construction, converter replacement, operation, etc. The profit was composed of the SMP and REC rate of a PV plant. A simulation for economic evaluation was done for the MVDC distribution system using the present worth and equal-principal costs repayment method. The results confirmed that the proposed model is a useful tool to evaluate economic issues of a DC distribution system.

Multivariate processes, such as chemical and mechanical process, power plants are operated in a state where several facilities are complexly connected, the fault of a particular system can also have fatal consequences for the entire process. In addition, since process data is measured in an unstable environment, outlier is likely to be include in the data. Therefore, monitoring technology is essential, which can remove outlier from measured data and detect failures in advance. In this paper, data obtained from dynamic and multivariate process models was used to detect fault in various type of processes. The dynamic process is a simulation of a process with autoregressive property, and the multivariate process is a model that describes a situation when a specific sensor fault. Mahalanobis distance was used to remove outlier contained in the data generated by dynamic process model and multivariate process model, and fault detection was performed using ICA. For comparison, we compared performance with and a conventional single ICA method. The proposed fault detection method improves performance by 0.84%p for bias data and 6.82%p for drift data in the dynamic process. In the case of the multivariate process, the performance was improves by 3.78%p, therefore, the proposed method showed better fault detection performance.

Local management trade ports are small-sized trade ports, which require active operation to strengthen the local cities' economic power and enhance the local industries' added value. In addition, local management trade ports should berth ships larger than the existing ships to increase efficiency and keep up with the international trend where ships are becoming larger. Furthermore, they should also prepare operating standards. This study selected Okgye Port among local management trade ports. We performed a mooring safety simulation evaluation according to the scenario where a 50,000 DWT vessel is moored at the current 20,000 DWT class pier. The emergency departure criteria were 27kts at 3.2s of wave period and 22kts at 5.0s of wave period at the existing pier. Results showed that mooring limit condition increased by about 50% to 41kts at 3.2s of wave period and 36kts at 5.0s of wave period. This study can be used for strengthening mooring facilities and setting operational standards for safe port operation when large ships are berthing.

The electro-hydrostatic actuators (EHA) are widely used in various industrial fields since they can independently execute the function of the hydraulic power source and have high efficiency. Particularly, in the aviation field, the EHA is mainly designed as dual redundant asymmetric tandem actuator to mitigate failure and minimize installation space. However, aviation EHAs designed in the form of dual redundant asymmetric tandem actuator have the disadvantage of decreased durability performance due to the occurrence of force fighting. In this paper, the controller is designed based on backstepping technique to improve control performance and reduce force fighting for aviation EHA. The augmented state observer is proposed to estimate the states required for control. Through simulation, it was verified that the proposed controller had superior control performance and significantly reduces the force fighting compared to the general PI controller.
The flow pattern at the inlet of the catalyst layer in a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system is one of the key parameters influencing the performance of the denitrification process. In the curved diffusing parts between the ammonia injection grids and the catalyst layers, guide vanes are installed to improve flow uniformity. In the present study, a numerical simulation has been performed to investigate the effect of the geometrical configuration of the guide vanes on the aerodynamic characteristics of a denitrification facility. This application has been made to the existing SCR process in a large-scaled coal-fired power plant. The flow domain to be solved covers the whole region of the flow passages from the exit of the ammonia injection gun to the exit of the catalyst layers. ANSYS-Fluent was used to calculate the three-dimensional steady viscous flow fields with the proper turbulence model fitted to the flow characteristics. The root mean square of velocity and the pressure drop inside the flow passages were chosen as the key performance parameters. Four types of guides vanes were proposed to improve the flow quality compared to the current configuration. The numerical results showed that the type 4 configuration was the most effective at improving the aerodynamic performance in terms of flow uniformity and pressure loss.
Lasers for optical broadband communication systems should have excellent frequency selectivity and modal stability. DFB lasers have low lasing frequency shift during high speed current modulation. In this paper, when a refractive index grating and a gain grating are simultaneously present in a DFB laser having a wavelength of 1.55 ㎛, the dielectric film is coated so that reflection does not occur on the right mirror surface, so that ρr=0. For the first mode, which requires a minimum gain at the threshold, the beam distribution of the oscillation mode in the longitudinal direction and the radiated power ratio Pl/Pr were analyzed and compared for the cases of the phase of ρl=π and π/2. If the phase of ρl=π, in order to obtain a low threshold current and high frequency stability, κL should be greater than 8. In the case of the phase of ρl=π/2, for low threshold current, κL is necessary to be 1.0, where the oscillation frequency coincides with the lattice frequency. DFB lasers with an anti-reflection coated mirror have excellent mode selectivity than 1.55um DFB lasers with two mirror facets
