Miller feedback compensation is introduced in a low dropout regulator (LDO) in order to obtain a capacitor-free regulator and improve the fast transient response. The conventional LDO has a limited bandwidth because of the large-size output capacitor and parasitic gate capacitance in the power MOSFET. In order to obtain a stable frequency response without the output capacitor, LDO is designed with resistor-capacitor (R-C) compensation and this is achieved with a connection between the gain-stage and the power MOS. An R-C compensator is suggested to provide a pole and zero to improve the stability. The proposed LDO is designed with the 0.35 μm CMOS process. Simulation testing shows that the phase margin in the Bode plot indicates a stable response, which is over 100o. In the load regulation, the transient time is within 55 μs when the load current changes from 0.1 to 1 mA.
This paper presents a low noise CMOS regulator for a low power capacitive sensor interface in a $0.5{\mu}m$ CMOS standard technology. Proposed LDO regulator circuit consist of a voltage reference block, an error amplifier and a new buffer between error amplifier and pass transistor for a good output stability. Conventional source follower buffer structure is simple, but has a narrow output swing and a low S/N ratio. In this paper, we use a 2-stage wide band OTA instead of source follower structure for a buffer. From SPICE simulation results, we got 0.8 % line regulation and 0.18 % load regulation.
This paper proposes an estimation algorithm for the electrical parameters of synchronous reluctance motors (SynRMs) by using a synchronous PI current regulator at standstill. In reality, the electrical parameters are only measured or estimated in limited conditions without fully considering the effects of the switching devices, connecting wires, and magnetic saturation. As a result, the acquired electrical parameters are different from the real parameters of the motor drive system. In this paper, the effects of switching devices, connecting wires, and the magnetic saturation are considered by simultaneously using the short pulse and closed loop equations of resistance and synchronous inductances. Therefore, the proposed algorithm can be easily and safely implemented with a reduced measuring time. In addition, it does not need any external or additional measurement equipment, information on the motor's dimensions, and material characteristics as in the case of FEM. Several experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
In this paper, light-emitting-diode (LED) backlight driving circuits and dimming method for medium-sized and large liquid crystal displays (LCDs) are proposed. The double loop control method, the intelligent-phase-shifted PWM dimming method, the fast-switching current regulator, and the current matching techniques are proposed to improve not only the current regulation characteristics and the power efficiency but also the current matching characteristics and the transient response of the LED current. The brightness of the backlight using the proposed local dimming method was determined from the histogram of the local block to reduce the power consumption of the backlight without image distortion. The measured maximum power efficiency of the LED backlight driving circuit for medium-sized LCDs was 90%, and the simulation results showed an 88% maximum power efficiency of the LED backlight driving circuit for large LCDs. The maximum backlight power-saving ratio of the proposed dimming method was 41.7% in the simulation with a high-contrast image. The experiment and simulation results showed that the performance of LEDs as LCD backlight units (BLUs) improved with the proposed circuits and method.
The output voltage of an off-grid inverter is influenced by load current, and the voltage harmonics especially the 5th and 7th are increased with nonlinear loads. In this paper, to attenuate the output voltage harmonics of off-grid inverters with nonlinear loads nearby, a load current feedforward is proposed. It is introduced to a voltage control loop based on the Positive and Negative Sequence Harmonic Regulator (PNSHR) compensation to modify the output impedance at selective frequencies. The parameters of the PNSHR are revised with the output impedance of the off-grid inverter, which minimizes the output impedance of the off-grid inverter. Experimental results verify the proposed method, showing that the output voltage harmonics caused by nonlinear loads can be effectively suppressed.
The space power system for communication satellite which employs the direct energy transfer (DET) method consists of solar array, battry, shunt regulator, charger/discharger and power control unit (PCU). In this paper, the development of the DET power system charger/discharger unit and a microprocessor based PCU is developed for simplicity and flexiblity in the modificatin of control algorithm. A 28V bus voltage, 400W power rting power simulator is built and tested to verify the operation of the simulator at each mode and the stability of mode transition is analyzed.
