Information technology advances are allowing conventional surveillance systems to be combined with mobile communication technologies, creating ubiquitous monitoring systems. This paper proposes monitoring system that uses smart camera technology. We discuss the dependence of interior orientation parameters on calibration target sheets and compare the accuracy of a three-dimensional monitoring system with camera location calculated by space resectioning using a Digital Surface Model (DSM) generated from stereo images. A monitoring housing is designed to protect a camera from various weather conditions and to provide the camera for power generated from solar panel. A smart camera is installed in the monitoring housing. The smart camera is operated and controlled through an Android application. At last the accuracy of a three-dimensional monitoring system is evaluated using a DSM. The proposed system was then tested against a DSM created from ground control points determined by Global Positioning Systems (GPSs) and light detection and ranging data. The standard deviation of the differences between DSMs are less than 0.12 m. Therefore the monitoring system is appropriate for extracting the information of objects' position and deformation as well as monitoring them. Through incorporation of components, such as camera housing, a solar power supply, the smart camera the system can be used as a ubiquitous monitoring system.

We propose a prediction method of the pollutant and a synchronous classification of the current state of SOx emission in the power plant. We use the auto-regressive with exogeneous (ARX) model as a predictor of SOx emission and use a radial basis function network (RBFN) as a pattem classifier. The ARX modeling scheme is implemented using recursive least squares (RLS) method to update the model parameters adaptively. The capability of SOx emission monitoring is utilized with the application of the RBFN classifier. Experimental results show that the ARX model can predict the SOx emission concentration well and ARX modeling parameters can be a good feature for the state monitoring. in addition, its validity has been verified through the power spectrum analysis. Consequently, the RBFN classifier in combination with ARX model is shown to be quite adequate for monitoring the state of SOx emission.
To reduce the effect of fault on power systems, like GIS and transformers, power system authorities are using various technologies to monitor and diagnose there facilities. Developing On-Line monitoring systems by using IT technology is main issue of nowadays for power system authorities. Among various monitoring and diagnosis technologies, gas sensing technologies can be most useful candidate because large power systems are using gas and oils for there insulation and analyzing density of gases that are included in the gas and oils for insulation purpose tell us what kind of reaction were arisen. In this paper, we describe on the gas sensing technology that are used for power systems monitoring and diagnosis.

This article describes the useful way to measure the torque and RPM of the geared motor. For this we have made the planetary geared reduction motor including 2 Hall sensors in it and the monitoring system. The monitoring system displays the sensing values (torque, rpm) and the calculated value (power) and it also has the network capability using the Bluetooth protocol. We will show that our solution is much more inexpensive and simple method to measure torque and rpm than before.
The analog-based Ex-core Neutron Flux Monitoring System (ENFMS) in Korean Nuclear Power Plants (NPPs) has been performing its intended functions successfully for a long time. On the other hand, the primary concern with the extended use of analog systems is the aging effect, such as mechanical failures, environmental degradation, and obsolescence. The transition to a digital-based Man-Machine Interface Systems (MMIS) in Korea and other countries has been accelerating, but some systems are still analog-based IC systems, such as the ENFMS in APR1400 NPPs. Digitalized ENFMS can become a reality using computers and microprocessors owing to the progress in digital electronics and information technology. This paper presents the result of the first phase of the research on the digitalization of the ENFMS signal processing electronics for NPPs operated or produced in Korea. It has two main parts: (1) review engineering bases of ex-core neutron flux monitoring system, including nuclear engineering, instrumentation techniques, and analog and digital signal processing techniques, and (2) analysis of analog signal processing electronics of ENFMS for OPR1000 and APR1400 power plants. They are prerequisite to the second phase of the research which is the detailed implementation of the digitalization.
Grinding burn formed on the ground surface is related to the maximum temperature of workpiece surface and wheel tempertaure in the grinding process. The thermal characteristics of workpiece and grinding conditions on the surface tempertaure of the oxidation growing layer after get out of contact with the grinding wheel. The assumption used in grinding power signatures leads to the local temperature distribution between grinding wheel and workpiece, i.e., a single curve determines temperatures anywhere within the grinding wheel at anytime. This information is useful in the study of the grinding burn penetration into the wheel and thus provides an presentation of grinding trouble monitoring for the burning. On the basis of grinding power signatures in the wheel, thermally optimum grinding conditions are defined and controlled. To cope with grinding burn, the use of grinding power signatures is an effective monitoring systems when occurring the grinding process. In this paper, the identified parameters suggested in this study which are derived from the grinding power signatures are presented, and prediction model by grinding power utilized a linear regression algorithm is applied.
Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) is the science and technology of monitoring and assessing the condition of aerospace, civil and mechanical infrastructures using a sensing system integrated into the structure. Impedance-based SHM measures impedance of a structure using a PZT (Lead Zirconate Titanate) patch. This paper presents a low-power wireless autonomous and active SHM node called Autonomous SHM Sensor 2 (ASN-2), which is based on the impedance method. In this study, we incorporated three methods to save power. First, entire data processing is performed on-board, which minimizes radio transmission time. Considering that the radio of a wireless sensor node consumes the highest power among all modules, reduction of the transmission time saves substantial power. Second, a rectangular pulse train is used to excite a PZT patch instead of a sinusoidal wave. This eliminates a digital-to-analog converter and reduces the memory space. Third, ASN-2 senses the phase of the response signal instead of the magnitude. Sensing the phase of the signal eliminates an analog-to-digital converter and Fast Fourier Transform operation, which not only saves power, but also enables us to use a low-end low-power processor. Our SHM sensor node ASN-2 is implemented using a TI MSP430 microcontroller evaluation board. A cluster of ASN-2 nodes forms a wireless network. Each node wakes up at a predetermined interval, such as once in four hours, performs an SHM operation, reports the result to the central node wirelessly, and returns to sleep. The power consumption of our ASN-2 is 0.15 mW during the inactive mode and 18 mW during the active mode. Each SHM operation takes about 13 seconds to consume 236 mJ. When our ASN-2 operates once in every four hours, it is estimated to run for about 2.5 years with two AAA-size batteries ignoring the internal battery leakage.
The development of a digital signal processor based prototype is described in relation to continuing efforts for realizing a fully self-contained active sensor system utilizing impedance-based structural health monitoring. The impedance method utilizes a piezoelectric material bonded to the structure under observation to act as both an actuator and sensor. By monitoring the electrical impedance of the piezoelectric material, insights into the health of the structured can be inferred. The active sensing system detailed in this paper interrogates a structure utilizing a self-sensing actuator and a low cost impedance method. Here, all the data processing, storage, and analysis is performed at the sensor location. A wireless transmitter is used to communicate the current status of the structure. With this new low cost, field deployable impedance analyzer, reliance on traditional expensive, bulky, and power consuming impedance analyzers is no longer necessary. A complete power analysis of the prototype is performed to determine the validity of power harvesting being utilized for self-containment of the hardware. Experimental validation of the prototype on a representative structure is also performed and compared to traditional methods of damage detection.
The scale of wind turbines has continuously increased over the last decade. Especially, the rapid growth of the rotor diameter has brought about the increase of the tower height and the load on the rotor blade, as can be seen in the case of a 5MW class wind turbine with 126m rotor diameter. This trend means the increasing possibility of system failure. In addition to that, it is impossible for human operators to stay and manage all the turbines in the case of a large-scale wind farm. For these reasons, the operation and maintenance technology is getting more importance. In this paper, we present an unmanned remote monitoring system for MW class wind turbines and its application to YeungHeung wind test bed.
