Development of Transmitter/Receiver Front-End Module with Automatic Tx/Rx Switching Scheme for Retro-Reflective Beamforming

  • In this work, a transmitter/receiver front-end module (T/R FEM) with an automatic Tx/Rx switching scheme for a 2.4 GHz microwave power transfer is developed for a retro-reflective beamforming scheme. Recently, research on wireless power transfer techniques has moved to wireless charging systems for mobile devices. Retro-reflective beamforming is a good candidate for tracking the spatial position of a mobile device to be charged. In Tx mode, the T/R FEM generates a minimum of 1 W. It also comprises an amplitude and phase monitoring port for transmitting RF power. In Rx mode, it passes an Rx pilot signal from a mobile device to a digital baseband subsystem to recognize the position of the mobile device. The insertion loss of the Rx signal path is 4.5 dB. The Tx and Rx modes are automatically switched by detecting the Tx input power. This T/R FEM is a design example of T/R FEMs for wireless charging systems based on a retro-reflective beamforming scheme.

  • To achieve economic stability, distribution Company as an economic institution should be managed by various processes. In this way, knowledge of different processes is the first step. Furthermore, expectations, outputs, requirement data, and sub-processes should be extracted and determined. Accordingly, to assign the performance responsibility of each process, the decision-making points must be introduced and, the deviation or change in set-points should be investigated into processes. Also, the performance of processes could be monitored by introducing of the sub-indictors. In this study, a practical method is presented for monitoring of reliability and power loss indices from viewpoint components' supply chain into the distribution network. At first, the visibility model of the supply chain is illustrated by focus group and the sub-indicators are extracted for each process of this chain. Then, validation and verification of the sub-indicators are accomplished by the Delphi method and, an information dashboard is presented by confirmed the sub-indicators and statistics methods. Finally, the proposed method is investigated by real data in a typical network and the results are analyzed.

  • Corrosion has been around for all of recorded history. Cathodic protection is the electrical solution to the corrosion problem. Corrosion is not exactly a new topic. It has been around since the beginning of time. Corrosion is simply the loss of material resulting from current leaving a metal, following through a medium, and returning to the metal at a different point. Corrosion takes many forms and has various names, such as oxidation, rust, chemical, and bacteria action. Regardless of the agent, all corrosion is the result of electrical current flow. Various methods are used to treat corrosion or to try to prevent ti. Some of these include chemical treatment. coatings, and electrical current. Especially, proper impressed current can stop corrosive action on the protected surface. In this article, we introduce the Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP) Control and monitoring system developed by ourselves. The ICCP system is composed of a power supply, anode, reference electrode and controller. The main issue is to control the current flow on the desired value such that it is possible to force a metal to be more negative(cathodic) than the natural state. From the this process, we can achieve the cathodic protection. Of course, in the developed system, the necessary functions are possessed, such as remote control, monitoring of system fault detection etc. Some experimental results show the system performance and usefulness.

Application of Multi-Antenna GPS Technology in Monitoring Stability of Slopes

  • There are a great number of man-made and natural slopes in many parts of the world including Hong Kong and Mainland China. For example, there are over 40,000 slopes in Hong Kong registered by the Hong Kong Government. Landslides due to slope failures can often cause catastrophes that involve the loss of both lives and important facilities. GPS has been demonstrated to have great potentials for use in monitoring slope stability and landslides. However, the high hardware cost of GPS has limited the wide spread use of GPS for such applications. The multi-antenna GPS technology initiated by the research group and our collaborators has significantly reduced the cost of GPS and provided a solution to a number of associated problems such as data management and power supply. This paper discusses practical applications of multi-antenna GPS technology in slope monitoring, including system design, setting up, data transmission and management, and data quality analysis and control. Some slope monitoring examples are given to illustrate the points discussed.

  • The reliability performance of distribution networks will be enhanced with the installation of application programs including feeder reconfiguration program for loss minimization and optimization of system capacity. Although the basic functions of remote monitoring and remote control provide no measurable cost benefit the suite of application programs developed and now being commissioned by KEPCO, the future will continue to offer this utility with substantial savings in system operational costs, improve system reliability and customer service.

  • 본 논문은 새로운 저전력 BIST 패턴 생성기에 대해 제안하고 있다. 이는 천이 감시 윈도우 블록과 MUX로 구성된 천이 감시 윈도우를 사용하는데, LFSR(linear feedback shift register)에서 생성되는 무작위 테스트 패턴의 패턴 천이 수 분포가 유사 무작위 가우시안(pseudo-random gaussian) 분포를 보이는 성질을 이용한다. 제안된 방식에서 천이 감시 윈도우는 스캔 체인에서 높은 전력 소모의 원인이 되는 초과 천이를 감지하고, k-value라는 억제 천이 수를 통해 초과 천이를 억제하는 역할을 한다 ISCAS'89 벤치마크 회로 중 많은 수의 스캔 입력을 갖는 회로를 사용하여 실험한 결과, 성능 손실 없이 약 $60\%$정도의 스캔 천이 수 감소를 나타내었다.

  • The Korean electric railway is growing rapidly such as speed of 300km/h in high speed section and 230km/h in the conventional railway section. But, power supply failure occurs because of loss of contact, defective catenary system and high speed vehicle. Therefore preventive maintenance way based reliability has been applied. Typical example is the facility inspection method using trolley inspection system. But it is required differentiated inspection method to prevent problem such as inspection errors. In this paper, a study on the trolley sliding condition inspection system using monitoring techniques is performed for performance enhancement of inspection system. It proposed the efficient maintenance method through monitoring the deviation and height of contact wire after installing inspection system on the top of train which operates in the metropolitan area. Inspection errors were decreased by virtually monitoring the video of faulty facilities. Also those facilities were identified through the impact sound analysis and tests at the main catenary section.

  • Monitoring system is constructed for evaluating and analyzing performance of installed 50kW grid-connected PV system and have been monitored since October 2005. As climatic and irradiation conditions have been varied through long-term operation, there is necessity for evaluating numerical values of PV(Photovoltaic) system performance to observe the overall effect of environmental conditions on their operation characteristics. This paper presents performance monitoring results and analysis on component perspective(PV array and power conditioning system) and global perspective(yield, losses) of PV system for one year monitoring periods.

  • The conversion of an invisible thermal radiation pattern of an object into a visible image using infrared (IR) thermal technology is very useful to understand phenomena what we are interested in. Although IR thermal images were originally developed for military and space applications, they are currently employed to determine thermal properties and heat features in various applications, such as the non-destructive evaluation of industrial equipment, power plants, electricity, military or drive-assisted night vision, and medical applications to monitor heat generation or loss. Recently, IR imaging-based monitoring systems have been considered for application in agricultural, including crop care, plant-disease detection, bruise detection of fruits, and the evaluation of fruit maturity. This paper reviews recent progress in the development of IR thermal imaging techniques and suggests possible applications of thermal imaging techniques in agriculture.

  • 본 논문에서는 최근 들어 본격적인 연구개발이 활성화되고 있는 무선 데이터 통신서비스를 근간으로 한 미세정보 감시 시스템(RMIMS: radio interfaced micro information monitoring system or MICROS: micro information and communication remote object-oriented system)에 대한 QoS(quality of service, ex: packet loss)를 보장하는 새로운 움직이는 다중 기지국(multiple IS-MMBS) 서비스 방법을 제안하였다. MMBS 서비스 지역에서 실시간 트래픽 형태의 RMIMS 터미널 응용서비스가 발생하거나 서비스 지역에 배치되는 RMIMS 터미널 수의 증가 또는 높은 전송대역폭을 요구하는 RMIMS 응용서비스 등으로 인하여 하나의 IS-MMBS 만으로는 기 서비스 중인 RMIMS 터미널 및 신규RMIMS 터미널에 대한 패킷 손실 여부 같은 QoS를 만족하는 서비스가 불가능한 경우가 발생한다. 이러한 경우에 다중 IS-MMBS을 이용하여 RMIMS 터미널의 QoS를 보장하는 MMBS 서비스를 제공할 수 있다. 제안한 다중 IS-MMBS 서비스 모드는 RMIMS 클러스터링 방법과 MMBS 세그먼트(segment) 방법에 따라 터미널 분할방법(terminal segment method), 영역 분할방법(region segment method ), 응용서비스별 분할방법(application based segment method), 트래픽 타입별 분할방법(traffic type based method), 중첩 분할방법(overlapping segment method), 복합 분할방법(hybrid segment method)으로 분류 제안하였다.
