Evaluation of a Self-Adaptive Voltage Control Scheme for Low-Power FPGAs

  • This paper presents a fine-grain supply-voltage-control scheme for low-power FPGAs. The proposed supply-voltage-control scheme detects the critical path in real time with small overheads by exploiting features of asynchronous architectures. In an FPGA based on the proposed supply-voltage-control scheme, logic blocks on the sub-critical path are autonomously switched to a lower supply voltage to reduce the power consumption without system performance degradation. Moreover, in order to reduce the overheads of level shifters used at the power domain interface, a look-up-table without level shifters is employed. Because of the small overheads of the proposed supply-voltage-control scheme and the power domain interface, the granularity size of the power domain in the proposed FPGA is as fine as a single four-input logic block. The proposed FPGA is fabricated using the e-Shuttle 65 nm CMOS process. Correct operation of the proposed FPGA on the test chip is confirmed.

  • A model predictive control (MPC) method without individual PWM has been recently researched to simplify and improve the control flexibility of a multilevel inverter. However, the input power of each H-bridge cell and the switching frequency of switching devices are unbalanced because of the use of a restricted switching state in the MPC method. This paper proposes a control method for balancing the switching patterns and cell power supplied from each isolated dc source of a cascaded H-bridge inverter. The supplied dc power from isolated dc sources of each H-bridge cells is balanced with the proposed cell balancing method. In addition, the switching frequency of each switching device of the CHB inverter becomes equal. A simulation and experimental results are presented with nine-level and five-level three-phase CHB inverter to validate the proposed balancing method.

  • In this paper, we design the robust $H_{\infty}$ controller for water level control of steam generator using a mixed $H_{\infty}$ optimization with model-matching method. Firstly we choose the desired model which has good disturbance rejection performance. Secondly we design a stabilizing controller to keep the model-matching error small and also provide sufficiently large stability margin against additive perturbations of the nominal plant. Simulation results show that proposed robust $H_{\infty}$ controller at specific power operation has satisfactory performances against the variations of load power, steam flow rate, primary circuit coolant temperature, and feedwater temperature. It can be also observed that the proposed robust $H_{\infty}$ controller exhibits better robust stability than conventional PI controller.

  • According as level of industry develops day after day, electricity load system of industry requires high level control, effectiveness and high efficiency. Among supply and control unit of suitable power supply in these load characteristic, inverter systems of constant current regulate is used widely control of lighting and electric heating system. Therefore, in this paper proposed an inverter systems with constant current regulation and power factor correction (PFC) circuit for Lighting and Beaconing of Aerodromes. The effectiveness of the proposed system confirmed through experimental results of CCR.

Torque Ripples Minimization of DTC IPMSM Drive for the EV Propulsion System using a Neural Network

  • This paper deals with a Direct Torque Control (DTC) of an Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM) for the Electric Vehicle (EV) propulsion system using a Neural Network (NN). The Conventional DTC with optimized switching lookup table and three level torque controller generates relatively large torque ripples in an electric vehicle motor drive. For reducing the torque ripples, a three level torque controller is hereby replaced by the five level torque controller. Furthermore, the switching lookup table of the five level torque controller based DTC is replaced with a Neural Network. These DTC schemes of an IPMSM drive are simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK. The simulated results are compared with the conventional DTC and it is found that the ripples in the torque, as well as in the stator current, are reduced drastically.

  • The control objective of steam generator water level in the secondary circuit of a nuclear power plant is to regulate the water level at the desired set point. The dynamics of steam generators is non-linear in nature. The task of modelling such plant is very difficult and especially so when plant operating conditions change frequently. In these reasons, conventional PI gains over all pover range will not work efficiently and a manual control is generally used in low power operation. Therefore the robust H$\infty$ controller design method should be required. In this paper, we design the robust H$\infty$ controller for water level control of steam generator using a mixed H$\infty$ optimization with model-matching method. Sliding Mode Current Controller Design for Power LEDs

  • High-brightness LED control is required for stable operation, thus the driver and control system must be designed to deliver a constant current to optimize reliability and ensure consistent luminous flux. In this paper, the sliding mode current controller is designed to adjust the illumination density of power LEDs. The controller design model of power LEDs, including its driving circuit, is proposed to realize the dimming control of power LEDs. A buck converter is introduced to drive the power LEDs and reduce the input voltage to a lower level. The sliding mode software controller is implemented to adjust the dimming of power LEDs. The proposed strategy for driving power LEDs is investigated and comparatively studied by experiments.

  • 본 논문에서는 전력증폭기의 입력신호의 크기에 따라 CMOS class-E 전력증폭기의 게이트와 드레인의 바이어스 전압을 조절함으로써 낮은 출력전력에서도 80% 이상의 고효율 특성을 갖는 CMOS class-E 전력증폭기를 설계하였다. 입력신호의 포락선을 검파하여 전력증폭기의 바이어스 전압을 조절하는 방법을 이용하였고, 동작주파수는 2.14GHz, 출력전력은 22dBm에서 25dBm, 전력부가효율은 모든 입력전력레벨에서 80.15%에서 82.96%의 특성을 얻을 수 있었다.

  • This paper proposes a new PWM method to reduce the common mode voltage change in three-level Vienna rectifier. This new proposed PWM method uses medium voltage vector for the three-level Vienna rectifier to determine the sum of three-phase voltage zero, and the common mode voltage variation is decreased. Using the carrier comparison method, the switching function generator for three-level Vienna rectifier has been proposed. The effects of the proposed PWM method have been verified through simulation using the PSIM.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient rate control scheme based on the received power level to overcome a quality degradation of video under time varying channel condition caused by the movement of mobile devices. First, we statistically obtain the relation between the PLR and the received power level. With this information and the sequences of received power level, we calculate the transition probability for the Markov Channel Model. Then, with using Markov chain rule, we obtain the probability where the channel condition remains in a good state and finally find the efficient target bit rate by multiplying it by the offered bandwidth when the network access has begun. We use TMN8 to adjust the bit rate to our proposed outcome. Experimental results show that the proposed method can efficiently enhance the video quality and provide better PSNR performance than with only using TMN8 rate control method.
