The light harvesting efficiency is counted as an important factor in the power conversion efficiency of DSSCs. There are two measures to improve this parameter, including enhancing the dye-loading capacity and increasing the light trapping in the photoanode structure. In this paper, these tasks are addressed by introducing a macro-porous silicon (PSi) substrate as photoanode. The effects of the novel photoanode structure on the DSSC performance have been investigated by using energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, photocurrent-voltage, UV-visible spectroscopy, reflectance spectroscopy, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements. The results indicated that bigger porosity percentage of the PSi structure improved the both anti-reflective/light-trapping and dye-loading capacity properties. PSi based DSSCs own higher power conversion efficiency due to its remarkable higher photocurrent, open circuit voltage, and fill factor. Percent porosity of 64%, PSi(III), resulted in nearly 50 percent increment in power conversion efficiency compared with conventional DSSC. This paper showed that PSi can be a good candidate for the improvement of light harvesting efficiency in DSSCs. Furthermore, this study can be considered a valuable reference for more investigations in the design of multifunctional devices which will profit from integrated on-chip solar power.
This paper proposes a design and control method for a high-voltage direction current modular multilevel converter (HVDC-MMC) considering the capacitor voltage ripple of the submodule (SM). The capacitor voltage ripple consists of the line frequency and double-line-frequency components. The double line- frequency component does not fluctuate according to the active power, whereas the line-frequency component is highly influenced by the grid-side voltage and current. If the grid voltage drops, a conventional converter increases the current to maintain the active power. A grid voltage drops, current increment, or both occur with a capacitor voltage ripple higher than the limit value. In order to reliably control an MMC within a limit value, the SM capacitor should be designed on the basis of the capacitor voltage ripple. In this paper, the capacitor voltage ripple according to the grid voltage and current are analyzed, and the proposed control method includes a current limitation method considering the capacitor voltage ripple. The proposed design and control method are verified through simulation using PSCAD/EMTDC.
The variation of inflow at stream and hydrologic performance for small scale hydro power(SSHP) plants due to climate change have been studied. The model, which can predict flow duration characteristic of stream, was developed to analyze the variation of inflow caused from rainfall condition. And another model to predict hydrologic performance for SSHP plants is established. Monthly inflow data measured at Andong dam for 32 years were analyzed. The existing SSHP plant located in upstream of Andong dam was selected and analyzed hydrologic performance characteristics. The predicted results from the developed models show that the data were in good agreement with measured results of long term inflow at Andong dam and the existing SSHP plant. Inflow and ideal hydro power potential had increased greatly in recent years, however, these did not lead annual energy production increment of existing SSHP plant. As a results, it was found that the models represented in this study can be used to predict the primary design specifications and inflow of SSHP plants effectively.

The efficacy improvement of the light emitting diode (LED) was studied for the realization of small-size, low power consumption, and highly sensitive bio-sensor instrument. The performance of the LED with Mg delta-doping at the interface of AlGaN/GaN super-lattice in p type cladding layer was simulated. The device with Mg delta-doping showed improved current, radiative recombination rate, electroluminescence, and light output power compared to the conventional LED structure. Under the bias condition of 5 V, the improved device exhibited 20.8% increase in the light output power. This is attributed to the increment of hole concentration from stable ionization of Mg in p type cladding layer. This result is expected to be used for the miniaturization, power saving, and sensitivity improvement of the bio-sensor system.
Aiming at analyzing the power flow of the distribution systems with distribution transformer (DT) branches and PV nodes, a hybrid three-phase power flow methodology is presented in this paper. The incidence formulas among node voltages, loop currents and node current injections have been developed based on node-branch incidence matrix of the distribution network. The method can solve the power flow directly and has higher efficiency. Moreover, the paper provides a modified method to model DT branches by considering winding connections, phase shifting and off-nominal tap ratio, and then DT branches could be seen like one transmission line with the proposed power flow method. To deal with the PV nodes, an improved approach to calculate reactive power increment at each PV node was deduced based on the assumption that the positive-sequence voltage magnitude of PV node is fixed at a given value. Then during calculating the power flow at each iteration, it only needs to update current injection at each PV node with the proposed algorithm. The process is very simple and clear. The results of IEEE 4 nodes and the modified IEEE 34 nodes test feeders verified the correctness and efficiency of the proposed hybrid power flow algorithm.

This study performed an assessment of wave power potential in the Kangwon and Dongnam regions encompassing the East Sea and part of South Sea. Annual electricity production and economic effects of 28 wave energy converters with 750kW capacity were analyzed using significant wave height and peak wave period data(created from the NOAA's NWW3 model) and InVEST software(developed by Stanford University and University of Minnesota). Annual electricity production was estimated to be up to 1,207MWh/year and at least 163MWh/year. The spatial pattern of annual electricity production showed that the sea far from land has higher wave power potential than the sea near coast. The net present value(NPV) of 28 wave energy converters was calculated by considering an operation period of 25 years. When assuming that the electricity produced from wave energy converters is transferred to onshore power plants through underwater cables, the NPV was estimated to be up to 5,883USD(6,600,000KRW) and at least -63,494USD(-71,000,000KRW). In contrast, the NPV increased up to 28,095 USD(31,600,000KRW) when assuming that the electricity is utilized in the Ulleungdo and Dokdo. In addition, it was found that the break-even line of NPV in the East Sea becomes closer towards the land according to the increment of electricity price. The NPV of wave energy converters near the Ulleungdo and Dokdo will be 88,158 USD(99,000,000KRW) if the increment of electricity price is 100KRW.
Most dentists are very interested in laser therapy on the intraoral soft tissue lesions because they want to accomplish the analgesic and aseptic surgery with little or no bleeding. In order to determine the difference of pain threshold according to different gingival tissues with or without inflammation, 25 patients with inflammatory periodontal disease and 10 volunteers with good general and oral health were selected as the inflamed group and the normal group, respectively. Interdental papilla, marginal gingiva, attached gingiva, and alveolar mucosa were irradiated by the contact delivery($300{\mu]m$ fiber optic, for 5 seconds) of a pulsed Nd:YAG laser(EN.EL.EN06O, Italy). And the laser power was gradually increased from 0.5W by the increment of 0.1W. The highest laser power was recorded as the first painful power when the painful gesture was recognized at first. The difference of the first painful power of laser according to different gingival tissues with or without inflammation was statistically analyzed by paired t-test in MICROSTAT program. Following results were obtained: 1. In the comparison related with the inflammation, the first painful power was significantly lower in the inflamed group than in the normal group, regardless of interdental papilla and marginal gingiva(p<0.05). 2. In the comparison related with the tissue structure, the first painful. power was significantly lower in alveolar mucosa than in attached gingiva(p<0.05). The results suggest that, for the painless therapy by a pulsed-Nd:YAG laser irradiation, the laser surgery over 2.0W of power should be necessarily accomplished under the local anethesia, and the local anesthesia should be considered according to the degree of inflammation, the tissue structure, and the purpose of laser therapy.
In this study, cracking susceptibility of laser cladding was investigated according to the processing parameters such as laser power, scan speed and feeding rate with blended powders of stellite#6 and technolase40s (WC+NiCr). The solidification microstructure of clad was composed of Co-based dendrite structures with ${\gamma}+Cr7C3$ eutectic phases at the dendritic boundaries. The crack propagation showed transgranular fracture along dendritic boundaries due to brittle chrome carbide at the eutectic phases. From results of fractography experiments, the fracture surface was typical cleavage brittle fracture in the clad and substrate. The number of clad cracks, caused by a tensile stress after the solidification, increased with increase of laser power, scan speed and feeding rate. Increase of the laser power caused large pores by facilitating WC decarburizing reaction. And the pores affected increase of crack susceptibility. High scan speed caused increment of clad cracks due to thermal stress and WC particle fractures. Also, increase of the feeding rate accompanied an amount of WC particles causing crack initiation and decarburizing reaction.

PV (Photovoltaic) power generation system has been widely studied as a clean and renewable power source. Tracking the MPP (maximum power point) of a PV array is usually an essential part of a PV system. This paper describes POS (Photovoltaic Output Sensorless) MPPT method and optimization technique of its operational characteristics for grid-connected PV generation system. A DC-DC converter has been used to step-up the PV voltage and DC-AC converter has been used for connecting the system to the grid. Optimization technique has been implemented to optimize the current and voltage controller gain parameters and duty ratio increment of DC-DC converter. Simulation results reveal that the proposed control has better response.

This paper proposes a new method reducing the maximum demand power of substations at urban railway by using transformer with OLTC(:On Load Tap Changer). Most of the domestic urban railway is rectified by a diode scheme, and supplies the electric vehicles in dc 1500[v]. Because the substations are connected in parallel, if an input voltage of a substation is increased, then the voltage of rectifiers is also increased, and which leads to an increase in the maximum demand of the substation. Simulation results show that increment of maximum demand power can significantly be limited using the method proposed in this paper.
