  • The economic dispatch problem is important in both power system planning and operation, although there have been major advances in defining and solving more complete Optimal Power Flow(OPF) problems, there exists a need for constrained economic dispatch techniques which, though not as rigorous or as exact an OPF, are fast enough to be used on desktop computers. This paper presents a DC-OPF algorithm that is based upon Relative-Contribution Index in Generators. The transmission constraints are modeled as linear constraint based on a DC-Power-Flow model. An detailed illustrative example is presented.

  • Available transfer capability(ATC) is an important indicator of the usable amount of transmission capacity accessible by several parties for commercial trading in power transaction activities. This paper deals with an application of optimization technique for available transfer capability(ATC) calculation and analyzes the results of ATC by considering several constraints. Especially several optimization techniques are used to solve the ATC problem with state-steady security constraints. The results are compared with that of repeat power flow(RPF), sequential quadratic programming(SQP) and linear programming(LP). The proposed method is applied to 10 machines 39 buses model systems to show its effectiveness.

  • There are two types of IMV for MCV, the spool type and the poppet type. The spool type is used in the existing excavator MCV and easily meets large-capacity flow conditions, but has a flow force problem which affects the spool control. The poppet type stably blocks the flow and has excellent rapid response. However, the larger the capacity, the larger the diameter of the poppet needed, requiring a strong spring to withstand the oil pressure. In this study, a bi-directional three-stage IMV for MCV that can be used in medium and large hydraulic excavators was proposed. This is a poppet type, enabling bi-directional flow control and resolves the problem of proportional solenoid suction force limitation. To investigate the validity of the proposed valve, the system was mathematically modeled and the static and dynamic characteristics were investigated through the simulation using commercial software. It has been concluded that the reverse flow is possible in a regeneration circuit and that the proposed IMV can be used to perform various excavation modes.

  • In this paper, an A-team(Asynchronous Team ) based approach for Reactive power and volage control considering static security assessment in a power system with infrastructural deficiencies is proposed. Reactive power and voltage control problem is the one of optimally establishing voltage level given several constraints such as reactive generation, voltage magnitude, line flow, and other switchable reactive power sources. It can be formulated as a mixed-integer linear programming(MILP) problem without deteriorating of solution accuracy to a certain extent. The security assessment is to estimate the relative robustness of the system in Its present state through the evaluation of data provided by security monitoring. Deterministic approach based on AC load flow calculations is adopted to assess the system security, especially voltage security. A security metric, as a standard of measurement for power system security, producting a set of discrete values rather than binary values, is employed. In order to analyze the above two problems, reactive power/voltage control problem and static security assessment problem, in an integrated fashion for real-time operations, a new organizational structure, called an A-team, is adopted. An A-team is an organization for agents which ale all autonomeus, work in parallel and communicate asynchronously, which is well-suited to the development of computer-based, multi-agent systems for operations. This A-team based approach, although it is still in the beginning stage, also has potential for handling other difficult power system problems.

  • This paper proposes a constrained multi-area dispatch scheduling algorithm applicable to interconnected power system operations. The dispatch scheduling formulated as an MIP problem can be efficiently computed by GBD algorithm. GBD guarantees adequate computation speed and solution convergence by reducing the dimension of the dispatch scheduling problem. In addition, the regional decomposition technique based on ADM is introduced to obtain efficient inter-temporal OPF solution. It can find the most economic dispatch schedule incorporating power transactions without each regional utility's private information open.

  • This paper proposes a GAs-applied method for power system planning using series capacitors in order to control the flow of power as desired and utilize the existing transmission facilities to its transfer capacity limits. The control strategy problem is formulated as optimization problem. Also, in employing genetic algorithms to solve the optimization problems, real variable-based genetic algorithm is presented to save the coding processing time and obtain more accurate value of the variable. An application to IEEE 57-bus test system proves that the proposed method is effective for improvement of power system transfer capacity.

  • Indonesia has a very short supply of electricity. As a solution to this problem, plans for construction of thermal power plants are increasing. Thermal power plant require the cooling water system to cool the overheated engine and equipment that accompany power generation, and the circulation water pump chamber among the cooling water system are generally designed according to the ANSI (1998) standard. In this study, the design criterion $20^{\circ}$ for the spreading angle of the ANSI (1998) of the layout of the circulating water pump chamber can not be satisfied on the K-coal thermal power plant site condition in Indonesia. Therefore, 3-D numerical model experiment was carried out to obtain a hydraulically stable flow and stable structure. The Flow-3D model was used as numerical model. In order to examine the applicability of the Flow-3D model, the flow study results around the rectangular structure of Rodi (1997) and the numerical analysis results were compared around the rectangular structures. The longitudinal velocity distribution derived from numerical analysis show good agreement. In order to satisfy the design velocity in the circulating water pump chamber, a rectangular baffle favoring velocity reduction was applied. When the approach velocity into the circulating water pump chamber was occurred 1.5 m/s ~ 2.5 m/s, the angle of the separation flow on the baffle was occurred about $15^{\circ}{\sim}20^{\circ}$. By placing the baffle below the separation flow angle downstream, the design velocity of less than 0.5 m/s was satisfied at inlet bay.

  • The problem of the onset stability in an inclined layer of dielectric viscoelastic fluid (Walter's liquid B') is studied. The analysis is made under the simultaneous action of a normal a.c. electric field and the natural convection flow due to uniformly distributed internal heat sources. The power series method used to obtain the eigen value equation which is then solved numerically to obtain the stable and unstable solutions. Numerical results are given and illustrated graphically.

  • In competitive electricity markets, the System Operator (SO) coordinates the overall maintenance schedules when the collective maintenance schedule reported to 50 by Gencos not satisfy the specified operating criteria, such as system reliability or supply adequacy. This paper presented a method that divides generator maintenance scheduling of the 50 into a master-problem and a sub-problem. Master-problem is schedule coordination and sub-problem is DC-optimal power flow. If sub-problem is infeasible, we use the algorithm of modifying operating criteria of master-problem. And, the 50 should use the open information only, because the information such as cost function of a generator and bidding Price is highly crucial for the strategies of profit maximization.
