  • The Axial Power Distribution Monitoring System(APDMS) program was developed to calculate a detailed axial power distribution using two-level excore detector, cold leg temperature and control rod position signals. The unnormalized two-level excore detector signals were corrected for the rod shadowing factor determined by control rod position and for the temperature shadowing factor calculated based on cold leg temperature. A shape annealing matrix was then applied to the corrected excore detector response to yield peripheral power. After the core average power was obtained using linear relationship bet-ween core average and peripheral power, the boundary point power correction coefficient was applied to core average power in order to obtain boundary power for both upper and lower core axial boundaries. Then, the axial power distribution was synthesized by spline approximation. In spite of burnup, power level, control rod postion and axial offset changes, the comparisons of axial power distributions between BOXER simulation program and APDMS results showed good agreements within 5% root mean square error for Kori Unit 3 Cycle 4.

  • Zero-voltage and zero-current switched single-stage approach with high power factor is presented to reduce the switching losses and to achieve sinusoidal, unity power factor input currents. This single-stage approach, which combines a boost converter used as PFC with a half-bridge converter used as do to do conversion into one power stage, has a simple structure and low cost. At the same time, since the switches of the proposed converter are designed to be turned on at zero-voltage and off at zero-current, the switching losses could be reduced considerably. Detailed analysis and experimental results are presented on the proposed converter, which is operated at constant switching frequency and in discontinuous conduction mode.

  • A novel single-stage power factor corrected (PFC) drive for switched reluctance motor (SRM) is presented to achieve sinusoidal, near unity power factor input current. The proposed PFC SRM drive has no additional active switch. And a single-stage approach, which combines a DC link capacitor used as do source and a drive used for driving the motor into one power stage, has a simple structure and low cost. The characteristics and validity of the proposed circuit will be discussed in depth through the experimental results.

  • The design and performance analysis of a power factor corrected (PFC), single-phase, single switch flyback buck-boost ac-dc converter is carried out for low power battery charging applications. The proposed configuration of the flyback buck-boost ac-dc converter consists of only one switch and operates in discontinuous current mode (DCM), resulting in simplicity in design and manufacturing and reduction in input current total harmonic distortion (THD). The design procedure of the flyback buck-boost ac-dc converter is presented for the battery charging application. To verify and investigate the design and performance, a simulation study of the flyback buck-boost converter in DCM is performed using the PSIM6.0 platform. A laboratory prototype of the proposed single switch flyback buck-boost ac-dc converter is developed and test results are presented to validate the design and developed model of the system.

  • This paper presents a novel Power Factor Corrected(PFC) single-stage AC/DC Half-Bridge converter, which features discontinuous conduction mode(DCM) and soft-switching. The reduced conduction losses are achieved by the employment of a novel power factor correction circuitry, instead of the conventional configuration composed of a front-end rectifier followed by a boost converter. To identify the validity of the proposed converter, simulated results of 500[W] converter with 100[V] input voltage and 50[V] output voltage are presented.

  • Non-isolated OSAKA Converter, which removes a three-phase transformer, is described in this paper. The converter switches once in every half cycle of an AC commercial power source. Therefore, it can solve many problems caused by the high frequency operation. The proposed converter achieves the soft-switching operation and the EMI noise can be reduced. In this circuit, the resonant capacitor, which is used for the soft-switching operation, is utilized for the improvement of an input current waveform. To achieve low cost and compact structure, non-isolated OSAKA converter removes a three-phase transformer of the OSAKA converter. By removing the three-phase transformer, three phase currents occur the interferences each other. To avoid the interference, a new switching method for non-isolated OSAKA converter is preposed. The converter can be constructed by the low-speed large power devices. The converter generates the low distorted input current waveforms with high power factor.

  • In this paper, We designed the electronic ballast power factor corrected(PFC) circuity for an 400[W] hight pressure soldium lamp using boost-converter. The values of PFC elements in the proposed boost-converter circuit are calculated theoretically and performed simulation using IsSPICE. We also implemented the ballast for high pressure sodium lamp and experiments. We found that the experimental characteristics of implemented PFC circuit were same with those of simulation results. The experimental results show the performance as PF 90.3[%] at output 400(W).

  • We have development the electronic ballast for metal halide discharge (MHD) lamp. The ballast consists of the boost pre-converter for power factor correction (PFC), a flyback a converter, half-bridge inverter and ignitor. To reject acoustic resonance phenomena, we have designed electronic ballast driving with the low frequency square wave. As results of this study, the ballast had not flicker phenomena and promoted corrected the factor (PF) highly

  • In this paper, a soft-switching discontinuous mode (DCM) power factor corrected (PFC) converter is analyzed by applying the double Fourier series expansion. It is found that the fundamental component and higher-order harmonics included in the input current waveform are obtained by the Fourier series expansion of the mean value of the inductor current. From the theoretical analysis, a new method removing the distortion of the input current waveform is proposed. In spite of an open loop system, the proposed method makes a great improvement of the total harmonic distortion even if the ratio of output voltage to input voltage is very low.

  • This paper presents a novel single-stage Power Factor Corrected(PFC) AC/DC forward converter with semi-automatic current shaping in order to achieve the unity power factor and an isolated output. Since the proposed circuit is combined a boost converter used for PFCs with a forward converter used for DC to DC conversion, the over-all size of system could be reduced. And thanks to the zero voltage switching(ZVS) in both switches, the voltage stress can be reduced considerably. A simple auxiliary circuit adopted into the secondary of transformer is composed of lossless components for reducing surge voltage. A prototype which has tow IGBT(Insulated Gate Bypolar Transistor) modules as switching device is manufactured to evaluate the proposed topology. The characteristics of the proposed circuit are tested, and the validity is verified by experimental results.
