  • RFID system is applied to identify, locate and track people, cars, animals. In RFID system, the passive transponder without battery has some benefits than active transponder, such as no restriction in battery exchange and in battery’s life. But it needs auxiliary RF-DC conversion circuit. RF-DC conversion circuit originated from Wireless Power Transmission (WPT). In this paper, RF-DC conversion circuit consists of a microstrip patch antenna and impedance matching circuit, Cock-croft Walton circuit. And RF-DC conversion circuits have two kinds of T-type and Cross-type impedance matching circuits.

  • Due to the oil price is increasing continuously, active researches on sources of renewable energy has been invigorated. Above all, ocean energy has high-usability because of ocean current has high density and large quantity compared to the wind energy. In this paper, efficiency enhancement of the wave power generation was described through horizontal plate installation at the break water wave power generation system that converts the ocean energy into electricity. The power-conversion efficiency can be improved by horizontal plate installation at existing system, but there has been insufficient studies domestically. The purpose of this paper is to analyze about the effects of the horizontal plate installation on the breakwater wave power generation system by wave basin experiment and to propose a position of horizontal plate installation.

  • There are many factors that affect on the system output of Photovoltaic(PV) power generation; the variation of solar radiation, temperature, energy conversion efficiency of solar cell etc. This paper suggests a methodology for calculation of PV generation output using the probability distribution function of irradiance, PV array efficiency and revision factors of solar cell conversion efficiency. Long-term irradiance data recorded every hour of the day for 11 years were used. For goodness-fit test, several distribution (unctions are tested by Kolmogorov-Smirnov(K-S) method. The calculated generation output with or without revision factors of conversion efficiency is compared with that of CMS (Centered Monitoring System), which can monitor PV generation output of each PV generation site.

  • The advancement of power semiconductor devices has given great attribution to the performance and reliability or power conversion systems. But contemporary power devices have room for improvement. So much interest and endeavor are being applied to develop an improved power devices. The MOS-Controlled Thyristor(MCT)is a recently developed power device which combines four layers thyristor structure and MOS-gate. Owing to advantages compared to other devices in many respects, the MCT attracts much notice recently. Nowadays, in designing and manufacturing power conversion systems, the importance of circuit simulation for reducing cost and time is incensed. And to excute the simulation that resemble the real system as much as possible, to develop a model of power device that provides properly static and dynamic characteristics is important. So, this paper presents a PSPICE model of the MCT considering dynamic characteristics.

  • An electric power compensation system for a DC transmission system with an integrated wind turbine generator is proposed. The proposed compensation system consists of a synchronous generator and a duplex reactor. This apparatus is connected to the sending-end circuit of the DC transmission system. A set of steady-state equations of the system is first derived. Then, the effect of the duplex reactor, which can eliminate the sending-end grid current distortion due to commutation of the converter, is explored. The relationships among power at the sending-end circuit are also revealed. It is shown that fluctuations in the sending-end grid power due to changes in wind velocities are compensated with the proposed system. Finally, the effects of the sending-end grid conditions on the steady-state characteristics of the system are studied.

  • With significant development of power electronics technology, the proliferation of nonlinear loads such as static power converters has deteriorated power quality in power transmission and distribution systems. Notably, voltage harmonics resulting from current harmonics produced by the nonlinear loads have become a serious problem in many countries. Many photovoltaic power generation systems installed in building systems have harmonics that are the worst object for distribution systems as a utility interactive system, and it tends to spread out continuously. Proposed and implemented in this paper is a multi-function inverter control strategy that allows a shunt active filter function to the power inverter of the photovoltaic power generation system established on a building system. The effectiveness of the proposed system is demonstrated through the simulation of a hypothetical power system using PSCAD/EMTDC.

  • The integration of photovoltaic (PV) energy sources into DC grid has gained considerable attention because of its enhanced conversion efficiency with reduced number of power conversion stages. During the integration process, a local control unit is normally included with every power conversion stage of the PV source to accomplish the process of maximum power point tracking. A centralized monitoring and supervisory control unit is required for monitoring, power management, and protection of the entire system. Therefore, we propose a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) based centralized control unit that integrates all local controllers with the centralized monitoring unit. The main focus of this study is on the process of integrating many local control units into a single central unit. In this paper, we present design and optimization procedures for the hardware implementation of FPGA architecture. Furthermore, we propose a transient analysis and control design methodology with consideration of the nonlinear characteristics of the PV source. Hardware experiment results verify the efficiency of the central control unit and controller design.

  • In this paper, the rectenna converting 2.45[GHz] microwave into DC power is designed and fabricated for wireless power transmission using microwave and the methode for impedance matching and tuning are proposed in order to maximize RF-DC conversion efficiency. The fabricated rectenna can be easily tuned by using a broad open stub and has the RF-DC conversion efficiency up to 59[%] when the 5[dBm] input power is applied. The 2.2[V], 1.5[mW] DC level, in the 1[m] distance between the transmitter and the receiver can be obtained and this value is avaliable in the small power digital system.
