Off-time Control Method for High Power Density AC/DC Adapter (고전력밀도 AC/DC Adapter를 위한 off-time 제어법)

  • The proposed method offers an improved control method for high power density AC/DC adapter by using more energy efficient electrical equipments. Power factor correction (PFC) topology is based on boost topology with boundary conduction mode (BCM). DC/DC topology is based on half-bridge topology with fixed 50% duty and newly introduced off-time control method, which helps to reduce size of the semiconductor and the magnetic devices. Test results with 85W AC/DC adapter (18.5V/4.6A) design show that the measured efficiency is 90% with power density of $36W/in^3$. It also shows low no load power consumption of about 0.5W.

  • Adapter는 그 특성상 밀폐된 환경 및 대전류 구동으로 인하여 회로 소자의 발열이 매우 심각하며 이를 위해서는 주어진 사양에서 최고의 효율을 갖는 최적Topology의 선정이 중요하다. 따라서, 본 논문에서는 기존에 제안된 바 있는 몇 가지 회로에 대한 이론적 및 실험적 검증을 통해 200W 급 외장형 Adapter를 위한 최적 Topology를 제시하며 아울러 출력 정류 다이오드의 도통손실 및 발열을 개선하기 위해 동기정류기에 대하여 고찰한다.

  • When rotating the clutch drum in the power take-off (PTO) gear box of an armored recovery vehicle, lots of inner oil is drained through the adapter by centrifugal force. Therefore, a lack of lubrication is caused by inner oil loss, and the bearing is damaged by overheating. This study, therefore, aims to design an oil-controlling adapter by using shape alteration to prevent oil loss. Both the original and improved adapters were tested at 1,800rpm by using an operational test machine. When applying the original adapter to the gear box, the bearing was damaged by overheating, which was caused by the lack of lubrication. When applying the improved oil-controlling adapter, on the other hand, it prevented the loss of inner oil. Applying the improved adapter is expected to prevent the overheating caused by lack of lubrication.

  • 이동 PC 및 기타 여러 가지 전자기기의 휴대화가 급속도로 증가함에 따라 저가형 Adapter의 소형화와 고효율화가 지속적으로 요구되고 있다. 이를 위해 본 논문에서는 기존의 다양한 토폴로지 중 구성소자의 개수가 적고, 스위칭 손실을 저감할 수 있는 준-공진형 플라이백 컨버터에 대한 최적 설계 방법을 제시하고 이론적 및 실험적 검증을 통해 Slim type 65W급의 고효율 Adapter를 구현한다.

  • The AC-DC Adapter has been widely used in Mobile Phones, Note Book PC, LCD monitors, and portable electronic products. Recently, high-power-density Adapter was developed. This adapter increases power factor using a bridge diode rectifier and PFC, however, there are weak points that improving efficiency is limited. In the bridgeless rectifier circuit proposed in this paper, there is no PFC, however, the power factor and efficiency are improved by BCM and ZCS operations.

  • Recently, it is increased to use the portable device with small size. It is also increasing for demand of a small size adapter. To reduce the size of components, switching frequency has to be increased. But it causes higher switching loss and temperature of components. Especially, the temperature of adapter must be limited because adapter can be easily touched when portable device is being charged. To reduce temperature of adapter, high efficiency is essential. To solve this problem, this paper proposes design of resonance frequency optimization for LLC converter with high efficiency and low temperature of passive components.

  • The topology of LLC half bridge resonant converter provides ZVS characteristic. The voltage stress and current stress are smaller than that of the general resonant converters. So the LLC HB resonant converter can be considered as a optimal circuit for the notebook computer adapter. In the adapter design, we should consider the weight, the size and the overheat of the adapter. Thus the higher efficiency is an essential particular. First of all, the optimal design of transformer is the most important facts. Some parameters should be considered in order to get the highest efficiency. The adapter is designed through the considering of these parameters including the PFC circuit as the pre-regulator. It converts AC line input into about DC 390V link voltage of the LLC HB converter input and the converter has 16V/90W ratings. The efficiency measured is about up to 93%.

  • A previous adapter have a single-ouput, however, a demand of a multi-output adapter increase in the recent industrial site. In order to satisfy the demand, in this research, we implement a programmable high efficiency multi-output adapter. The basic structure of the adapter introduced in this paper is a sort of flyback. The way for producing the reference voltage of the adapter proposed is similar to the way in the general flyback implemented with TL431. In addition to the basic concept of the design, however, we introduce a digital variable resistor, AD5246BKSZ10-RL7 and a microcontroller for changing a programmable multi-output. It makes output be variable that the digital variable resistor change the reference voltage of the adapter by order of the microcontroller. The adapter output voltage is controllable in the range of 20V by the user, and the power efficiency is proven to be 85%.
