The Economic Value for the Post-use of the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics Facilities: Case of Alpine Stadium in Jeongseon (2018평창동계올림픽 시설 사후활용에 대한 경제적 가치: 정선군 알파인 경기장을 사례로)

  • Purpose - This study estimated the value of the post-use of Alpine stadium in Jeongseon as a tourist attraction, which is one of the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics facilities, and identified determinant factors on the willingness to pay (WTP). Design/methodology/approach - A dichotomous-choice model of contingent valuation method (CVM) that is known for an effective tool was used to calculate the value. The questionnaire was conducted on 650 visitors to major tourist destinations in Jeongseon and 629 copies of the valid samples were analyzed. Findings - The results shows that determinate factors on the WTP are; suggestion cost, need (application of Ecotourism Program to the Restoration Process), agree(agree to Ecotourism Program in the Restoration Process) and age. Also, the WTP on the facility is 16,296 won per person. Research implications or Originality - This study estimates the value of the post-utilization of Alpine Stadium of the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics facilities, which have been experiencing conflict in recent years. For this reason, the findings of the paper will provide meaningful information for tourism development and management policies of the region.

A novel excisional wound pain model for evaluation of analgesics in rats

  • Background: Management of pain from open wounds is a growing unmet healthcare need. However, the models available to study pain from wounds or to develop analgesics for the patients suffering from them have primarily relied on incisional models. Here, we present the first characterized and validated model of open wound pain. Methods: Unilateral full-skin excisional punch biopsy wounds on rat hind paws were evaluated for evoked pain using withdrawal responses to mechanical and thermal stimulation, and spontaneous pain was measured using hind paw weight distribution and guarding behavior. Evaluations were done before wounding (baseline) and 2-96 hours post-wounding. The model was validated by testing the effects of buprenorphine and carprofen. Results: Pain responses to all tests increased within 2 hours post-wounding and were sustained for at least 4 days. Buprenorphine caused a reversal of all four pain responses at 1 and 4 hours post-treatment compared to 0.9% saline (P < 0.001). Carprofen decreased the pain response to thermal stimulation at 1 (P ≤ 0.049) and 4 hours (P < 0.011) post-treatment compared to 0.9% saline, but not to mechanical stimulation. Conclusions: This is the first well-characterized and validated model of pain from open wounds and will allow study of the pathophysiology of pain in open wounds and the development of wound-specific analgesics.

  • Despite the serious lack of parking lots, studies on parking lot expansion are insufficient; research on users' satisfaction following parking lot expansion is practically nonexistent. Therefore, this study sought to provide basic data for the parking lot expansion of old apartments by comparatively analyzing users' satisfaction before and after the parking lot expansion through a questionnaire survey that targeted residents benefiting from the expanded parking lot. Results revealed a low post-occupancy satisfaction with the parking lot expansion despite the parking lot expansion and improvement of the parking lot environment. This was because the parking lot was not expanded up to the second basement floor due to the lack of appropriate parking space. Other factors included the construction cost burden and lack of connectivity of the basement parking lot with elevators. The results actually raise the need for the establishment of an optimally suitable expansion plan and development of method and technology requiring lower cost and shorter construction period in the design and construction processes for parking lot expansion. Through post-occupancy evaluation (POE) after parking lot expansion, this study quantitatively identified the problems associated with the parking lots of old apartments and ensuing expansion effects. The findings in this study can be used as basic data to seek a suitable diagnosis and evaluation method for the parking lots of old apartments.

Outcomes of Gastrectomy for Gastric Cancer in Patients Aged >80 Years: A Systematic Literature Review and Meta-Analysis

  • This meta-analysis examined the surgical management of older patients (>80 years) with gastric cancer, who were often excluded from randomized controlled trials. We analyzed 23 retrospective cohort studies involving 18,372 patients and found that older patients had a higher in-hospital mortality rate (relative risk [RR], 3.23; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.46-7.17; P<0.01) and more post-operative complications (RR, 1.36; 95% CI, 1.19-1.56; P<0.01) than did younger patients. However, the surgical complications were similar between the two groups. Older patients were more likely to undergo less extensive lymph node dissection and longer hospital stays. Although older patients had statistically significant post-operative medical complications, they were not deprived of surgery for gastric cancer. The comorbidities and potential risks of post-operative complications should be carefully evaluated in older patients, highlighting the importance of careful patient selection. Overall, this meta-analysis provides recommendations for the surgical management of older patients with gastric cancer. Careful patient selection and evaluation of comorbidities should be performed to minimize the risk of post-operative complications in older patients, while recognizing that they should not be deprived of surgery for gastric cancer.

A Study on the Influence Factors of the Continuance Intention of Foodservice O2O Platform : IS Success Model and Post Acceptance Model (외식 O2O 플랫폼의 지속사용의도 영향 요인 연구 : 정보시스템성공모델과 후기수용모델)

  • Recently, as demand for delivery services has increased rapidly due to COVID-19, the food service O2O(Online to Offline) platform has also grown significantly. This study aimed to verify the influencing factors on continuance use intention of O2O platform using the Information Service Success Model and Post Acceptance Model. An online survey was conducted on 379 consumers who used the food service O2O platform in the past six months, and the collected survey was analyzed using SPSS 26.0 and AMOS 24.0. As a result of the verification, in the influence relationship between the Information Service Success Model and Post Acceptance Model, system quality was found to have an effect on perceived usefulness, but information quality and service quality were rejected for perceived usefulness and were partially adopted, The rest were all found to have a significant effect. In the moderating effect according to the amount used, the intention to continue using was stronger when the group who spent more than 30,000 won was satisfied. These results support previous research on O2O platforms and provide academic implications as well as practical implications for practitioners in the food service industry.

Changes in the Information Transfer of Wooden Post and Beam Construction with Precutting in Japan

  • This paper aims to make clear the transition process of information transfer in wooden post and beam construction in Japan during the introduction and development of machine precutting technology. The machine precutting technology started from 1970s and developed toward line production or automated CAD-CAM production and have got over 90 % market share in the Japanese newly built wooden houses. Based on literature review and interviews with manufacturers of precutting machines, the transition of wooden post and beam construction houses was divided into four periods: i) before the introduction of precutting, ii) the introduction of precutting (the early stage), iii) the automation of precutting, and iv) the maturity of precutting, and the review reveals how the information of design and processing was made and transfered in each period. In addition, the modeling and comparison of information transfer in each period visually shows the transition of information transfer with the development of machine precutting technology. Before the introduction of precutting, when carpenters were responsible for the generation of both design and processing information, information was coordinated at each stage of the process based on expert knowledge, but highly precise and uniform processing of machine precutting reduced the need for such coordination skills. On the other hand, the review suggested that the precut processing technology has changed step by step based on the traditional technical system, which has maintained the rational transfer of information.

What Prompted Shadow Banking in China? Wealth Management Products and Regulatory Arbitrage

  • Shadow banking in China has been growing rapidly; banks use wealth management products aggressively to evade regulatory constraints. The loan-to-deposit ratio or LDR targets both sides of the balance sheet; loans in terms of asset-side, and deposits in terms of liabilities-side; banks needed to control and maintain both sides. Regulators restricted Chinese banks to maintain a 75% limit for their loan-depositratio. Banks' needed to either lower their loans or increase the deposits; WMPs helped banks to evade this limit. Banks issue more WMPs to control and manage a 75% statutory ceiling LDR. This WMPs-LDR positive association disappeared post-2015 period. This study empirically examined how Chinese banks use WMPs issuance to avoid regulatory constraints. Quarterly panel data for 30 top Chinese banks were used by analyzing pre-2015 (during the 75% LDR limit) and post-2015 (after removal of the LDR limit). This study also performed fixed-effects model as recommended by the Hausman specification test, with feasible generalized least squares FGLS estimation technique. The results of this study show that for the pre-2015 period, Chinese banks use issuance of WMPs aggressively to manage their LDR limit; this WMPs-LDR relationship disappeared post-2015 period. Moreover, SMBs use WMPs more eagerly as compare to Big4 banks.

The Effects of e-CRM on Consumer Satisfaction and Repurchase Intention (e-CRM 활동이 고객만족 및 재구매의도에 미치는 영향 -남녀 대학생을 중심으로-)

  • This study investigates the effects of e-CRM on consumer satisfaction and repurchase intention depending on gender differences. A total of 400 surveys were distributed and 382 were used in the analysis. Surveys were conducted on the respondents who had purchased apparel from an internet website within six months. A factor analysis, reliability test, and path analysis were used in the study to analyze the data. After the factor analysis, 6 factors were found under e-CRM activities; benefit and advice, customer contact, service, post-purchase management, assistance with the purchase, and discriminative treatment. The results of this study showed that for male consumers, service and post-purchase management had a positive effect on consumer satisfaction that in turn had a positive effect on repurchase intention. However, for female consumers, benefit and advice, customer contact, service, and discriminative treatment had a positive effect on consumer satisfaction that in turn had a positive effect on repurchase intention. The results also showed that post-purchase management had a positive direct effect on repurchase intention for both genders.

The Effect of a Urinary Incontinence Prevention and Self-management Program for Middle-aged Women in Rural Communities (지역사회 중년기 여성을 위한 요실금 예방 및 자가관리 프로그램 효과)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate a urinary incontinence self-management program for middle-aged women in Korean rural communities. Methods: A one-group pretest and posttest design was used to examine changes in severity, knowledge, and attitudes following the intervention. Fifty-six women completed weekly 90-min group sessions for seven weeks. Descriptive statistics and paired t-tests were used to analyze data. Results: The total of International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire scores was significantly decreased after the intervention (pre-test: $4.55{\pm}3.88$, post-test: $3.21{\pm}3.00$, p<.001). Significant improvement was also noted on the mean knowledge scores (pre-est: $16.66{\pm}6.24$, post-test: $21.43{\pm}5.15,$ p<.001). Conclusions: This study suggests that the UI self-management program is useful in improving the symptom of UI for middle-aged women living in communities.

Service Recovery Process: The Effects of Distributive and Informational Justice on Satisfaction over Complaint Handling

  • The justice issue in the service recovery process has become an interesting topic especially in rural banks in Indonesia. There are two types of justice issues in handling the complaint process; distributive and informational. This study aims to analyze the effect of distributive and informational justice on complaint handling satisfaction. This study also examines the mediating role of positive and negative emotions on the effect of justice in post-merger rural banks. This research employs a survey by distributing a questionnaire to 238 customers who have complained to one of the post-merger rural banks in West Java and Yogyakarta. This study uses the structural equation modelling (SEM) method by WarpPLS software. The results reveal that distributive and informational justice have a positive effect on positive and negative emotions, while informational justice does not affect positive and negative emotions. Distributive and informational justice directly affect satisfaction over complaint handling. On the other hand, positive and negative emotions affect satisfaction over complaint handling. The findings of this study suggest that positive emotion also mediates the distributive justice effect on satisfaction over complaint. Lastly, positive and negative emotions do not mediate the informational justice effect on satisfaction over complaint handling at post-merger rural banks in West Java and Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
