  • A piezoelectric actuator is widely used in precision positioning applications due to its excellent positioning resolution. However, the piezoelectric actuator lacks in repeatability because of its inherently high hysteresis characteristic between voltage and displacement. In this paper, a controller is proposed to compensate the hysteresis nonlinearity. The controller is composed of a PID and a neural network part in parallel manner. The output of the PID controller is used to teach the neural network controller by the unsupervised learning method. In addition, the PID controller stabilizes the piezoelectric actuator in the beginning of the learning process, when the neural network controller is not learned. However, after the learning process the piezoelectric actuator is mainly controlled by the neural netwok controller. In this paper, the excellent tracking performance of the proposed controller was verified by experiments and was compared with the classical PID controller.

  • In order to discuss the availability of the hydrostatic guideway driven by the coreless linear motor to ultra precision machine tools, a prototype of guideway is designed and tested in this research. A coreless linear DC motor with the continuous force of 156 N and a laser scale with the resulution of 10 nm are used as the feeding system. The experiments are performed on the static stiffness. motion accuracy, positioning accuracy. microstep response and variation of velocity. The guideway has the infinite axial stiffness within 50 N of applied load, and has 0.08 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ of linear motion error and 0.1 arcsec of angular motion error. It also has 0.21 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ of positioning error and 0.09 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ of repeatability, and it shows the stable response against the 10 nm resolution step command. The velocity variation of feeding system is less than 5%. From these results, it is confirmed that the hydrostatic guideway driven by the coreless linear motor is very useful for the ultra precision machine tools.

  • An ultraprecision multi-axis machine tool has been designed and developed in our laboratory. The machine tool has four moving axes which are composed of three linear axes and one rotational axis. It has a gantry type structure and the Z-axis is on the X-axis and the C-axis, on which a workpiece is located, is inside the Y-axis. This paper shows control performance improving method and procedure for the ultra-precision positioning control of a hydrostatic bearing guided linear axis. Through improvements of electrical and mechanical components for the control system such as control electronics and oil pumping systems, the control disturbing noise is decreased. Also by the frequency domain analysis of control system those problem-making system components are identified and modified with analytical methods. The controller is analyzed and designed from frequency domain data and system information. In the experimental control results the nanometer order control result is successfully presented.

A coreless linear DC motor with the continuous force of 156 N and a laser scale with the resolution of 0.01 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ are used as the feeding system. The guideway has the infinite axial stillness within 50 N of applied load, and by the motion error compensation method using the Active Controlled Capillary, 0.08 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ of linear motion error and 0.1 arcsec of angular motion error are acquired. The guideway also has 0.21 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ of positioning error and 0.09 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ of repeatability, and it shows the stable response against the 0.01 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ resolution step command. The velocity variation of feeding system is less than 0.6 %. • A series of experiments have been carried out by using National Geographic Information Institute(NGII)'s Continuously Operating Reference Station (CORS) data with various strategies to analyze the impact of multi-GNSS measurements on baseline processing. The results of baseline processing were compared in terms of ambiguity fixing rate, precision, and hypothesis tests were conducted to confirm the statistical difference. The combination of multi-GNSS measurements has helped to improve ambiguity fixing rate, especially under harsh positioning environments. Combination of GPS, Galileo, BeiDou could get better precision than that of GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and adding QZSS made the baseline solution's vertical component more precisely. The hypothesis tests have statistically confirmed that the inclusion of the multi-GNSS in the baseline processing enables not only to reduce field observation time length but also to enhance the solution's precision. However, it is of interest to notice that results of the baseline solution are dependent upon the software used. Hence, comprehensive studies should be performed shortly to derive the best practice to select the appropriate software.

  • Thermal expansion of ball screw in the semi-closed loop type CNC LATHE introduces positioning errors directly along the travelling the axis. In this paper the thermal displacements of the ball screw were estimated by using macro variable. The estimated displacements of the ball screw were given to the ball screw of the CNC LATHE under the constant driving conditions were measured to examine the effectiveness of the compensation method. The results showed that thermal displacements of the ball screw could be maintained less then 6 .mu.m positioning accaracy while using this compensation.

  • Bal1 screw systems has been used for positioning elements of machine tools. In order to maintain high rigidity and accuracy, preload is applied between nut and screw. However, large amount of preload increases frictional heat. Temperature rises remarkably at high speed notion, Thermal expansion degrades positioning accuracy, In this paper, finite differance method is applied to compute temperature distributions and thermal expansions of ball screw systems according to preload condition and rotational steed. Some simulation results show that the developed methodology is good to study thermal expansion of ball screw systems.
