  • Alopecia is a minor complication following open heart surgery, but it is a cosmetic and psychotic problem to the patient. Especially the extensive long period of operation, prolonged mechanical ventilation and no change of patient head position during operative and recovery period may serve the localized scalp pressure effect, which causes postoperative alopecia. So, for prevention of the postoperative alopecia, adequate blood flow and pressure must be maintained with alternative change of head position during operative and recovery period. The author experienced one case of occipital alopecia following open heart surgery and reports with literature.

  • There are many techniques to calculate the exact position of deep seated tunnel. Especially, tomography method has been used generally in present days. This method has been performed mainly by wave traveltime. Because of short interval of two measuring boreholes, it was very hard to interpret the exact tunnel position. To solve this problem, seismic amplitude method was tried to detect exact pososition of tunnel in this study.

  • We introduce Adaptive Fuzzy Impedance Controller for position and force control when robot contact with environment. Because Robot and environment was always effected by nonlinear conditions, it need to deal with parameter’s uncertainty. For solving this problem, it induced Fuzzy System in Impedance Control so fuzzy system is impedance’s stiffness gain. We apply adaptive fuzzy impedance controller in One-Link Robot System, it shows the good performance on desired position control and force control about contacting with arbitrarily environment.

  • In this paper, a study on the design of the transmitter-receiver of fuze sensor for discriminating target position is presented. We propose the algorithm for detecting target distance/direction through investigating the operational concept and principle of fuze sensor. Based on the algorithm, We design transmitter-receiver, calculate various design variables and estimate the performance of that one. The estimated result shows that the required performance of fuze sensor is satisfied. Further research on confirming the performance of proposed algorithm through encounter simulation test with real target and resolving problem will be continued.

  • This paper describes how a relatively compensate the error of position by using low cost Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) has been evaluated and compared with the well established method based on a Kalman Filter(KF). The compensation algorithm by using IMU have been applied to the problem of integrating information from an Inertial Navigation System (INS). The KF is to estimate and compensate the errors of an INS by using the integrated INS velocity and position. We verify the proposed algorithm by simulation results.

  • We consider the single machine scheduling problem with a rate-modifying activity and time-dependent deterioration after the activity. The class of scheduling problems with rate-modifying activities and the class of scheduling problems with time-dependent processing times have been studied independently. However, the integration of these classes is motivated by human operators of tasks who has fatigue while carrying out the operation of a series of tasks. This situation is also applicable to machines that experience performance degradation over time due to mal-position or mal-alignment of jobs, abrasion of tools, and scraps of operations, etc. In this study, the integration of the two classes of scheduling problems is considered. We present a mathematical model to determine job-sequence and a position of a rate-modifying activity for the integration problem. Since the model is difficult to solve as the size of real problem being very large, we propose genetic algorithms. The performance of the algorithms are compared with optimal solutions with various problems.

  • This paper addresses the problem of the construction planning of artillery positions, for which we present an optimization model and propose a heuristic algorithm to solve problems of practical size. The artillery position construction plan includes the assignment of engineers to support the artillery and the schedule of the support team construction sequence. Currently, in the army, managers construct the plan based on their experience. We formulate the problem as a mixed integer program and present a heuristic that utilizes the decomposition of the mixed integer model. We tested the efficacy of the proposed algorithm by conducting computational experiments on both small-size test problems and large-size practical problems. The average optimality gap in the small-size test problem was 6.44% in our experiments. Also, the average computation time to solve the large-size practical problems consisting of more than 200 artillery positions was 79.8 seconds on a personal computer. The result of our computational experiments shows that the proposed approach is a viable option to consider for practical use.

  • In this paper, we provide a geometrical solving method about the equiangular problem appeared in the solving process of the isoperimetric problem of polygon. In fact we deal with the following problem in the view of the productive thinking centered on the circle: Let B and G be fixed points, and let $\bar{AB}=\bar{AP_1}=\bar{DP_1}=\bar{DP_2}=\bar{FP_2}=\bar{FP_3}=\bar{HP_{n-1}}=\bar{HG}$. Then find the position of moving points $P_i(1{\leq}i{\leq}n)$ to maximize the sum of areas of the triangles that lie on the line segment $\bar{BG}$.

  • Purpose: This study was carried out to identify the effects of classroom lectures on adolescent nursing education in distance education. Method: The design of this study was a quasi-experimental research with nonequivalent control group, pretest-posttest design. The subjects of this study were 434 nurses in K open university. Data were collected from April to June, 2009 by the adolescent delinquency measurement scale and questionnaire for awareness of the issue in adolescent health education. Result: The both groups perceived the biggest problem as the lack of assigned education time in adolescent health education. After receiving education, the experimental group improved significantly more than the control group in recognition of adolescent problem behavior which is in interpersonal, intermaterial, order, drug, sex, position, alcohol/smoking delinquency and psychiatric problem. Conclusion: This adolescent nursing education is an effective education for nurses and could improve their recognition of adolescent problem behavior.

  • In this paper, a receding contact problem for an elastic layer resting on a half plane is considered. The layer is pressed by two rectangular stamps placed symmetrically. It is assumed that the contact surfaces are frictionless and only compressive traction can be transmitted through the contact surfaces. In addition the effect of body forces is neglected. Firstly, the problem is solved analytically based on theory of elasticity. In this solution, the problem is reduced into a system of singular integral equations in which half contact length and contact pressures are unknowns using boundary conditions and integral transform techniques. This system is solved numerically using Gauss-Jacobi integral formulation. Secondly, two dimensional finite element analysis of the problem is carried out using ANSYS. The dimensionless quantities for the contact length and the contact pressures are calculated under various stamp size, stamp position and material properties using both solutions. The analytic results are verified by comparison with finite element results.
