  • This paper is to develop the position error equations including the attitude errors, the errors of nadir and ship's heading, and the errors of ship's position in the free-gyro positioning and directional system. In doing so, the determination of ship's position by two free gyro vectors was discussed and the algorithmic design of the free-gyro positioning and directional system was introduced briefly. Next, the errors of transformation matrices of the gyro and body frames, i.e. attitude errors, were examined and the attitude equations were also derived. The perturbations of the errors of the nadir angle including ship's heading were investigated in each stage from the sensor of rate of motion of the spin axis to the nadir angle obtained. Finally, the perturbation error equations of ship's position used the nadir angles were derived in the form of a linear error model and the concept of FDOP was also suggested by using covariance of position error.

  • In order to eliminate position errors existing at the steady state in the motion control of robotic manipulators, a new fuzzy control algorithm is propeosed using three variables, position error, velocity error and integral of position errors as input variables of the fuzzy controller. Although the number of input variables of the fuzzy controller is increased from two to three, the number of fuzzy control rules is just increased by two. Three dimensional look-up table is used to reduce the computational time in real-time control, and a technique reducing the amount of necessary memory is introduced. Simulation and experimental studies show that the position errors at the steady state are decreased more than 90% compared to those of existing fuzzy controller when the proposed fuzzy controller is applied to the 2 axis direct drive SCARA robot manipulator.

  • This paper proposes a compensation algorithm for the analog rotor position errors caused by nonideal sinusoidal encoder output signals including offset and gain errors. In order to achieve a much higher resolution, position sensors such as resolvers or incremental encoders can be replaced by sinusoidal encoders. In practice, however, the periodic ripples related to the analog rotor position are generated by the offset and gain errors between the sine and cosine output signals of sinusoidal encoders. In this paper, the effects of offset and gain errors are easily analyzed by applying the concept of a rotating coordinate system based on the dq transformation method. The synchronous d-axis signal component is used directly to detect the amplitude of the offset and gain errors for the proposed compensator. As a result, the offset and gain errors can be well corrected by three integrators located on the synchronous d-axis component. In addition, the proposed algorithm does not require any additional hardware and can be easily implemented by a simple integral operation. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is verified through several experimental results.

  • The use of error compensation techniques has been recognized as an effective way in the improvement of the accuracy of a machine tool. The laser measurement method for identifying position errors of machine tool has the disadvantages such as high cost, long calibration time and usage of volumetric error synthesis model. Accordingly, this paper deals with analysis of the position errors of a machine tool using ball bar test without using complicated error synthesis model. Statistical analysis method was adopted in this paper for deriving position errors using hemispherical helix ball bar test.

  • It is a very important problem that we grasp the accurate position at car navigation system. The GPS has used for knowing position because of accumulating few errors, but it have errors that are Tropospheric error, ionospheric error and Multipath error and so on. In this paper, We estimate moving position of a vehicle by Kalman filter using initial value after deducing the line equation using initial value and target value of map data. Then, we compensate GPS errors compare estimated poing with GPS errors. The experimental results have shown that are compared position data during real travel with compensated position data which are got after applying the algorithm ...

  • The carrier-based differential global navigation satellite system (CD-GNSS) has been garnering significant attention as a promising technology for unmanned vehicles for its high accuracy. The CD-GNSS systems to be used for safety-critical applications should provide a certain level of integrity. The integrity of these systems must be analyzed under various conditions, including fault-free and satellite fault conditions. The systems should be able to detect the faults that can cause large biases on the user position errors and quantify the integrity risk by computing the protection level (PL) to protect the user against the faults that are left undetected. Prior work has derived and investigated the PL for the fault-free condition. In this study, the integrity of the CD-GNSS system under the fault condition is analyzed. The position errors caused by the satellite's fault are compared with the fault-free PL (PL_H0) to verify whether the integrity requirement can be met without computing the PLs for the fault conditions. The simulations are conducted by assuming the ephemeris fault, and the position errors are evaluated by changing the size of the ephemeris faults that missed detection. It was confirmed that the existing fault monitors do not guarantee that the position error under the fault condition does not exceed the PL_H0. Further, the impact of the faults on the position errors is discussed.

  • In this study, we propose a real time inertial navigation system/global positioning system (INS/GPS) integrated smoothing algorithm based on an extended Kalman filter (EKF) and a position damping loop (PDL) for synthetic aperture radar (SAR). Integrated navigation algorithms usually induce discontinuities due to error correction update by the Kalman filter, which are as detrimental to the performance of SAR as the relative position error. The proposed smoothing algorithm suppresses these discontinuities and also reduces the relative position error in real time. An EKF estimates the navigation errors and sensor biases, and all the errors except for the position error are corrected directly and instantly. A PDL activated during SAR operation period imposes damping effects on the position error estimates, where the estimated position error is corrected smoothly and gradually, which contributes to the real time smoothing and small relative position errors. The residual errors are re-estimated by the EKF to maintain the estimation performance and the stability of the overall loop. The performance improvements were confirmed by Monte Carlo simulations. The simulation results showed that the discontinuities were reduced by 99.8% and the relative position error by 48% compared with a conventional EKF without a smoothing loop, thereby satisfying the basic performance requirements for SAR operation. The proposed algorithm may be applicable to low cost SAR systems which use a conventional INS/GPS without changing their hardware configurations.

  • Aerostatic planar XY stages are frequently used as the main frames of precision positioning systems. The machining and assembly process of the rails and bed of the stage is one of first processes performed when the system is built. When the system is complete, the 2D position, motion, and stage flatness errors are measured in tests. If the stage errors exceed the application requirements, the stage must be remachined and the assembly process must be repeated. This is difficult and time-consuming work. In this paper, a method for estimating the errors of a planar XY stage is proposed that can be applied when the rails and bed of the stage are evaluated. Profile measurements, estimates of the motion error, and 2D position estimation models were considered. A comparison of experimental results and our estimates indicated that the estimated errors were within $1{\mu}m$ of their true values. Thus, the proposed estimation method for 2D position and flatness errors of an aerostatic planar XY stage is expected to be a useful tool during the assembly process of guideways.
