  • 3D human pose estimation is widely applied in various fields, including action recognition, sports analysis, and human-computer interaction. 3D human pose estimation has achieved significant progress with the introduction of convolutional neural network (CNN). Recently, several researches have proposed the use of multiview approaches to avoid occlusions in single-view approaches. However, as the number of cameras increases, a 3D pose estimation system relying on a CNN may lack in computational resources. In addition, when a single host system uses multiple cameras, the data transition speed becomes inadequate owing to bandwidth limitations. To address this problem, we propose a distributed real-time 3D pose estimation framework based on asynchronous multiple cameras. The proposed framework comprises a central server and multiple edge devices. Each multiple-edge device estimates a 2D human pose from its view and sendsit to the central server. Subsequently, the central server synchronizes the received 2D human pose data based on the timestamps. Finally, the central server reconstructs a 3D human pose using geometrical triangulation. We demonstrate that the proposed framework increases the percentage of detected joints and successfully estimates 3D human poses in real-time.

  • It is difficult to extract small valve automatically in noisy 3D point cloud obtained from LIDAR because small object is affected by noise considerably. In this paper, we assume that the valve is a complex model consisting of torus, cylinder and plane represents handle, rib and center plane to extract a pose of the valve. And to extract the pose, we received additional input: center of the valve. We generated histogram of distance between the center and each points of point cloud, and obtain pose of valve by extracting parameters of handle, rib and center plane. Finally, the valve is reconstructed.

  • It is difficult to accurately extract features of pedestrian because the pedestrian is photographed at a crosswalk using a camera positioned higher than the pedestrian. In addition, it is more difficult to extract features when a part of the pedestrian's body is covered by an umbrella or parasol or when the pedestrian is holding an object. Representative methods to solve this problem include Object Detection, Instance Segmentation, and Pose Estimation. Among them, this study intends to use the Pose Estimation method. In particular, we intend to increase the recognition rate of pedestrians in crosswalks by maintaining the image resolution through HigherHRNet and applying the foot estimation technique. Finally, we show the superiority of the proposed method by applying and analyzing several data sets covered by body parts to the existing method and the proposed method.

  • Workers have been replaced by mobile manipulators for factory automation in recent years. One of the typical tasks for automation is that a mobile manipulator moves to a target location and picks and places an object on the worktable. However, due to the pose estimation error of the mobile platform, the robot cannot reach the exact target position, which prevents the manipulator from being able to accurately pick and place the object on the worktable. In this study, we developed an automatic alignment system using a low-cost camera mounted on the end-effector of a collaborative robot. Camera calibration and pose estimation methods were also proposed for the automatic alignment system. This algorithm uses a markerboard composed of markers to calibrate the camera and then precisely estimate the camera pose. Experimental results demonstrate that the mobile manipulator can perform successful pick and place tasks on various conditions.

  • Human face detection has many applications such as face recognition, face or facial feature tracking, pose estimation, and expression recognition. We present a new method for automatically segmentation and face detection in color images. Skin color alone is usually not sufficient to detect face, so we combine the color segmentation and shape analysis. The algorithm consists of two stages. First, skin color regions are segmented based on the chrominance component of the input image. Then regions with elliptical shape are selected as face hypotheses. They are certificated to searching for the facial features in their interior, Experimental results demonstrate successful detection over a wide variety of facial variations in scale, rotation, pose, lighting conditions.

  • In this paper, we introduce a new approach for real-time 3D face pose discrimination based on active IR illumination from a monocular view of the camera. Under the IR illumination, the pupils appear bright. We develop algorithms for efficient and robust detection and tracking pupils in real time. Based on the geometric distortions of pupils under different face orientations, an eigen eye feature space is built based on training data that captures the relationship between 3D face orientation and the geometric features of the pupils. The 3D face pose for an input query image is subsequently classified using the eigen eye feature space. From the experiment, we obtained the range of results of discrimination from the subjects which close to the camera are from 94,67%, minimum from 100%, maximum.

  • Gait analysis is an important tool in the clinical management of cerebral palsy, allowing for the assessment of condition severity, identification of potential gait abnormalities, planning and evaluation of interventions, and providing a baseline for future comparisons. However, traditional methods of gait analysis are costly and time-consuming, leading to a need for a more convenient and continuous method. This paper proposes a method for analyzing the posture of cerebral palsy patients using only smartphone videos and deep learning models, including a ResNet-based image tilt correction, AlphaPose for human pose estimation, and SmoothNet for temporal smoothing. The indicators employed in medical practice, such as the imbalance angles of shoulder and pelvis and the joint angles of spine-thighs, knees and ankles, were precisely examined. The proposed system surpassed pose estimation alone, reducing the mean absolute error for imbalance angles in frontal videos from 4.196° to 2.971° and for joint angles in sagittal videos from 5.889° to 5.442°.

  • This paper proposes a robust human detection method irrespective of their pose variation using the multiple oriented 2D elliptical filters (MO2DEFs). The MO2DEFs can detect the humans regardless of their poses unlike existing object oriented scale adaptive filter (OOSAF). To overcome OOSAF's limitation, we introduce the MO2DEFs whose shapes look like the oriented ellipses. We perform human detection by applying four different 2D elliptical filters with specific orientations to the 2D spatial-depth histogram and then by taking the thresholds over the filtered histograms. In addition, we determine the human pose by using convolution results which are computed by using the MO2DEFs. We verify the human candidates by either detecting the face or matching head-shoulder shapes over the estimated rotation. The experimental results showed that the accuracy of pose angle estimation was about 88%, the human detection using the MO2DEFs outperformed that of using the OOSAF by $15{\sim}20%$ especially in case of the posed human.

  • In order to automatically provide information on fruits in agricultural related broadcasting contents, instance image segmentation of target fruits is required. In addition, the information on the 3D pose of the corresponding fruit may be meaningfully used. This paper represents research that provides information about tomatoes in video content. A large amount of data is required to learn the instance segmentation, but it is difficult to obtain sufficient training data. Therefore, the training data is generated through a data augmentation technique based on a small amount of real images. Compared to the result using only the real images, it is shown that the detection performance is improved as a result of learning through the synthesized image created by separating the foreground and background. As a result of learning augmented images using images created using conventional image pre-processing techniques, it was shown that higher performance was obtained than synthetic images in which foreground and background were separated. To estimate the pose from the result of object detection, a point cloud was obtained using an RGB-D camera. Then, cylinder fitting based on least square minimization is performed, and the tomato pose is estimated through the axial direction of the cylinder. We show that the results of detection, instance image segmentation, and cylinder fitting of a target object effectively through various experiments.
