  • The recently-developed automated vessels require a system which evaluates the operating condition of the ship at present position form weather information as well as sensors; forecasts the operation condition the sea state to come in foreseeable future ; and suggests the optimum course and speed for ship's sa-fety. According to a study deck wetness propeller racing slamming rolling vertical acceleration lateral acce-leartion vertical bending moment at midship etc. were chosen as the factors for evaluating seakeeping per-formance. As a mater of fact there is no developing the hardware of a system which could consider all the factors onseakeeping performance. This study introduces a theoretical method which makes it possible to evaluate the seakeeping perfor-mance byapplying a theory from reliability engineering and thereby establishing a safety space. lation of stochastic processes with the factors presently adopted for evaluating sekakeeping performance. and develops the overall eseakeeping performance evaluation system in consideration of the safety of human being cargoes and the ship This method of evaluation shall be of much use in developing the practical system of seakeeping perfor-mance of a ship in waves.

  • One of the major sources of error in precise GPS positioning since the turn-off the Selective Availability(SA) is the ionospheric propagation delay. For the last decades, a lot of the ionospheric researches based on a GPS network have been implemented throughout the world. Especially researches of the ionospheric modeling for Wide Area Argumentation System(WAAS) have been undertaken and published. In mid-latitude regions, typical spatial and temporal variations in ionospheric models delay tend to minimal. The developed ionospheric model calls for a 1.25 degree grid at latitudes and a 2.5 degree grid at longitudes. The precise grid TEC estimated by the inversion technique is also compared with global ionosphere maps(GIMs) which have been provided by several analysis centers(ACs). The results of initial investigations into the suitability of the proposed ionospheric modeling scheme in north-east Asia are presented.

  • In order to promote the historicity of Eoryongdo Lighthouse, which was designated as a lighthouse cultural heritage in August 2023, and to utilize it as a water-friendly space, the facilities were improved to maintain the function of the lighthouse smoothly, and the buildings were reinforced to utilize it as a water-friendly space. We want to inform the public of the historical value of the lighthouse and make every effort to ensure maritime traffic safety, which is the original role of the lighthouse.

  • Recent studies have offered ambiguous definitions of smart ports. These include smart ports being the only way that fully integrated ports can survive (Deloitte 2017) or ports that have a design based on Internet-of-Things technology to minimize waste of urban space and resources (Port Technology 2016). In addition, many port authorities are creating smart port strategies and have held research seminars focused on smart ports. This study sheds light on the following questions: Why do we need smart ports? Why should all ports be smart ports? Why are overseas advanced ports promoting smartization as soon as possible? What does the future look like for smart ports? Therefore, in this study, we explored the concept of smart ports based on previous research and examined the trends in smart port policies in the Netherlands, Germany, the UK, Italy, and Singapore. Finally, this study proposes useful policies for smart ports and also discusses policy directions that could make our ports truly smart ports.

  • In maritime logistics, a large number of containers are transported to the destination through a port in the form of composite transportation such as ships, trucks, and railways. Logistics parties such as shipping companies and consignors prefer having the real-time information on the entry and exit of the logistics hubs of the freight. Particularly, a port is an important space that connects the maritime and inland areas. Hence, the interest about freight of the logistics party in port is high. This study describes tracking the location of freight by using GPS dynamically based on area type rather than point type. This presents dynamic information of location tracking when the freight enters, exits from, and passes through a certain port area. I suggest a real-time location of the container cargos tracking algorithm in port-entry, port-exit, and port inside using Active IP-RFID technology based on the location tracking algorithm of previous research.

  • An experimental study was carried out to characterize the spray atomization process of micro-machined port fuel injectors with a piezoelectric atomization device, which can generate pressure pulsations through vibration of a piezoelectric transducer. In this study, several types of micro-machined arrays such as 30∼200-microns of hole arrays were tested. Both a dual-stream and a central-port injectors with micro-machined arrays were tested and compared with normal port fuel injectors. The spray visualization was conducted to characterize overall spray structure and phase Doppler particle analyzer (PDPA) system was used to quantify the droplet size and velocity. In addition, the pressure history was recorded by using digitized signal from pressure transducer. The results showed that modulation is effective to the spray atomization for tested injectors and atomization performance depends on injector design factors, orifice sizes, and frequency and power of the modulator. A number of resonance frequencies of the modulator was modified by injector parameters and temperature. In addition, our results suggested that design of sufficient space among holes is critical to avoid droplet coalescence in the multi-hole micro-machined injectors.
