Ship-floating object accidents can lead not only to a delay in ship's operations, but also to large scale casualties. Hence, preventive measures are required to avoid them. This study analyzed the spatiotemporal aspects of such collisions based on the data on ship-floating object accidents in sea areas in the last five years, including the collisions in South Korea's territorial seas and exclusive economic zones. We also provide basic data for related research fields. To understand the distribution of the relative density of accidents involving floating objects, the sea area under analysis was visualized as a grid and a two-dimensional histogram was generated. A multinomial logistic regression model was used to analyze the effect of variables such as time of day and season on the collisions. The spatial analysis revealed that the collision density was highest for the areas extending from Geoje Island to Tongyeong, including Jinhae Bay, and that it was high near Jeongok Port in the West Sea and the northern part of Jeju Island. The temporal analysis revealed that the collisions occurred most frequently during the day (71.4%) and in autumn. Furthermore, the likelihood of collision with floating objects was much higher for professional fishing vessels, leisure vessels, and recreational fishing vessels than for cargo vessels during the day and in autumn. The results of this analysis can be used as primary data for the arrangement of Coast Guard vessels, rigid enforcement of regulations, removal of floating objects, and preparation of countermeasures involving preliminary removal of floating objects to prevent accidents by time and season.

The shipping and port industries have traditionally been male-centered, and although the scope of entry for female mariners is increasing, the proportion of female workers is still low. However, research on career barriers and career decision levels in this industry has not yet been conducted. This study can explain the dif iculties in career development experienced by women in this industry and comprehensively explain the socio-cultural context or environmental factors to which the individual belongs in order to improve it. The purpose of this study was to derive career barrier factors and investigate how they affect career decision levels among female students enrolled in M University's Maritime College. The career barriers perceived by female students at Maritime College were derived from gender discrimination (GD), career undecided and lack of preparation (IOU), work-family conflict (WFC), lack of individual characteristics (LPQ), and lower-than-expected job prospects (LOE). As a result of analyzing how the derived career barrier factors af ect the career decision level, it was found that IOU had a significant negative effect on the career decision level. GD, WFC, LPQ, and LOE did not have a significant effect on career decision level. The study conclusions can be used as important data for career guidance and counseling for female maritime college women who want to overcome career barriers and improve their career decision-making levels.

Tourism projects through islands in the waters of Sinan-gun became active, and as a result, a total of 13 marine bridges connecting islands were completed. However, the marine bridge constructed in the fairway is dangerous for traffic. Particularly, in the case of the marine bridge connecting two islands, the width of the fairway is extremely narrow, therefore the risk is higher. In this study, we evaluated the risk of collision between marine bridge piers and ships using the IALA Waterway Risk Assessment Program (IWRAP), a risk assessment model for port waterways, based on a maritime traffic survey on the coastal bridge in Sinan-gun. The results, indicated that No.1 Sinan bridge had the highest probability of collision and most of the transit ships were coastal passenger ships. In addition, No.1 Sinan bridge was the place where the most collision accidents occurred among the marine bridge piers in the target sea, and the cause this study was analyzed. An analysis of the satellite images of the sea environment of No.1 Sinan bridge using an image processing method, confirmed that obstacles that could not be seen in the chart existed nearby the bridge. As a result, traffic was observed to be concentrated in one direction, unlike two-way traffic, which is a method of inducing traffic of bridges to avoid obstacles. The risk cause analysis method using the image processing technique of this study is expected to be used as a basic research method for analyzing the risk factors of island bridge in the future.
The purpose of this study is to look at the concept of Gaebyeok as used by Kang Jeungsan (姜甑山) from a civilizational perspective. The combination of East Asian civilization during the period of Korea's port-opening and the subsequent inflow of Western powers with material civilization all at the forefront in the late Joseon Korea, served as the driving force for a new civilizational transition. Unlike the Chuk-sa Party and the Gae-hwa Party, modern Korean religions that emphasized Gaebyeok also responded to Western civilization and suggested a new view of civilization. Kang Jeung-san, resisting discrimination and oppression, presented a civilization built upon mutual beneficence while criticizing Western civilizations which centered on reason. Amid this process of the spread of modern Western civilization, Jeungsan declared the construction of a new civilization to the people who were negatively impacted by various social factions, such as class and gender discrimination, political corruption, exploitation via political corruption, and the inflow of Western powers. Jeungsanist Thought developed criticisms of materialism and human alienation, and this resulted in the claim of Gaebyeok. This was an expression of efforts to build a new civilization that aimed to harmonize, integrate, and thrive. The new civilization envisioned by Jeungsan was that of a society run according to mutual beneficence, and it can be summarized as a 'Civilization of Harmonious Union' that integrates philosophical thought and civilizational models of both East and West. This could also be referred to a 'Civilization of Public-commons and Harmony between Divine Beings and Human Beings (神人公共).' The life of Jeungsan was a life spent in the service of curing the world to save the lives of humanity. Since then, his 'movement of mutual beneficence' as observed in Mugeuk-do and Taegeuk-do were also efforts to build the new civilization envisioned by Jeungsan.
In order to provide the design criteria, the characteristics of consolidation for soft ground improvement have been investigated using the field banking test performed by the vertical drain method at the northern container section in Busan New Port. Field test results indicated that the estimated degree of consolidation in design stage decreased by about 7% compared with the measured one. This difference is attributed to the fact that the conservative geological properties were applied with relatively high amount of maximum clay mixture ratio during the design stage. Based on this findings, another laboratory oedometer test was implemented to consider various combination of mixture ratio. It was found that the consolidation degree increased in accordance with the increase of sand/silt mixture ratio. Also, the proportion of 10%, 50%, and 40% for sand, silt, and clay, respectively, was observed as the best combination of mixture ratio to the actual measurement, which is very similar to the average grain size distribution in the banking test area. Therefore, it is suggested that the overall geological characteristics as well as the grain size distribution should be considered in design stage to improve the soft ground that contains mixture of sand, silt, and clay.

The penetration of the probe produces the excess pore pressure due to the disturbance. The objective of this study is to evaluate the disturbance zone by using the dissipation of the excess pore water pressure, which was generated due to the penetration of the penetrometer with different size. The CPT, DMT and FVP (Field Velocity Probe) are adopted for in-situ tests. The tests are carried out in the construction site of north container pier of Busan new port, Korea where is accelerating the consolidation settlement using plastic board drains (PBD) and surcharges by crushed gravels. The coefficient of consolidation $(C_h)$ and soil properties are deduced by the laboratory test. The in-site tests are performed after the predrilling the surcharge zone at the point of 90% degree of consolidation. To minimize the penetration effect, the horizontal distance between penetration tests is 3m, the change of the pore pressure is monitored at the fixed depth of 24m. The coefficient of consolidation $(C_h)$ and the $t_{50}s$ are calculated based on the laboratory test and the in-situ data, respectively. The equvalent radi based on the $t_{50}$ shows that the FVP and the DMT produce the smallest and the greatest equivalent radi, respectively.

This study was carried out to select suitable plants for beach revegetation as a preliminary study for quantifying the effect of decreasing sand movement. After planting some herbal plants in field, monitoring of temporal change of vegetation coverage which was index of the growth rate was conducted. Through literature reviews, 24 candidate plants for beach revegetation were selected, then seven species of them, Peucedanum japonicum Thunb., Dianthus japonicus Thunb. ex Murray, Sedum oryzifolium Makino, Sedum takesimense Nakai, Sedum spectabile Boreau, Farfugium japonicum (L.) Kitam., Aster sphathulifolius Maxim. were picked through salinity tolerance experiments in laboratory. Seven species selected by salinity tolerance experiments and two additional herbal plants, Prunella vulgaris var. lilacina Nakai and Linaria vulgaris Mill., not the candidates, were nine final species which were planted in the beach around Osan port, Uljin, Korea. The changes of vegetation coverage of each species were investigated from photos periodically taken for about a year using image processing methods. As a result of the monitoring, Sedum takesimensei, Dianthus japonicus and Aster sphathulifolius were observed with high coverages during the whole monitoring while Prunella vulgaris var. lilacina and Linaria vulgaris were observed with low coverage during the same period. Consequently, Sedum takesimensei, Dianthus japonicus and Aster sphathulifolius were concluded as the most suitable plants for beach revegetation. Furthur study to quantify the effects of decreasing sand movement by the selected species is needed.
This study aims to present the criteria of location selection and contents composition of Sewol ferry memorial space from the perspective of placeness and dark tourism, one of the main concepts of cultural tourism theory, and to draw academic concepts and implications related to it. First, the location selection of Sewol ferry memorial space was proposed by applying the concept of placeness to each important location, and the direction of the contents composition was presented based on the contents components such as characters, stories, places and dark tourism composition directions. As a result, when the Sewol ferry memorial space is designed in use of systemizing the narrative structure of the storytelling method and implementing it specifically, it is suggested that it is possible to construct a Sewol ferry memorial space by distributing and course-making based on the narrative structure rather than focusing on the location selection of a specific place. In addition, it was argued that the contents composition criteria should be more complex and systematically established and applied considering the connection between placeness and dark tourism when the Sewol ferry memorial space is constructed in various sites like 416 life safety parks and Mokpo New Port. This study, which aims to answer research questions related to major issues based on the perspective of placeness and dark tourism on the Sewol ferry memorial space, is expected to be used as a reference for the construction of the memorial space in the future.

For safe mooring and towing between the ship and port, the equipment must be designed in accordance with the relevant international regulations. However, some small shipyards and engineering companies often do not fully comprehend the core contents. Therefore, the international regulations regarding towing and mooring equipment are reviewed and the bollard and chock are newly developed based on the Mooring Equipment Guideline 4 (MEG4) standards. A bollard is a mooring equipment used to fix a mooring rope to the hull. It has two columns and is mostly used in a figure eight pattern knots under the mooring condition. The chock, which is used to change the mooring rope direction coming into the ship from outside, is manufactured using a casting with curvature. The two mooring equipment are widely used in the stern, bow, and mid-side. Owing to the increase in the size of container vessels and LNG ships, the mooring rope load has increased and the safe working load of the mooring equipment must be revised. This study summarizes and examines the results of the allowable stress method obtained using finite element analysis modelling. To consider the mesh size effect, a reasonable criteria was suggested by referring the existing class guidance. Additionally, the safe working load was verified through nonlinear collapse analysis, and the elastic region against load increments was confirmed. Furthermore, the proposed evaluation method can be used to develop similar equipment in the near future.

In this study, an expert survey was conducted using the Delphi technique to select items and indicators for evaluation before installing educational facilities in the marine fisheries safety field, in which the educational infrastructure gap between regions is wide. Seven indicators were selected as geographic, social, and administrative factors. In order to objectively evaluate each indicator, evaluation indicators that could be evaluated using public data such as the "Comprehensive National Balanced Development Information System" and "National Statistical Portal" were developed. The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method was applied to select the weight for each indicator, resulting in 10 most important influencing factors on the selection of the location of educational facilities of the Marine Fisheries Safety Education Facilities: the distribution of marine officers, access to high-speed railways, the number of small ships less than 5 tons, access to highways interchange, the distribution of fishing boats, the close relationship of related industries, the planned new port, the distribution of commercial ports, the number of marine leisure riders, and the availability of long-term land leases in local government councils. The location evaluation index of marine and fishery safety education facilities developed in this study can be used to evaluate each region using national public data, and has the advantage of enabling objective evaluation. Therefore, it is judged that this evaluation index can be used to verify the feasibility of installing marine fisheries safety education facilities as well as other marine-related facilities.
