This paper presents conceptual design and 3-D electromagnetic analysis of 1MVA transformer with BSCCO-2223 High Tc Superconducting (HTS) tapes. The rated voltages of each sides of the transformer are 22.9 kV and 6.6 kV, and double pancake windings were adopted. High voltage and Low voltage sides were composed of several double pancake windings. Four HTS tapes were wound in parallel for the windings of low voltage side and were transposed in order to distribute the currents equally in each conductor. The transformer core was designed as a shell type core made of laminated silicon steel plates and the core is separated with the windings by a cryostat with Fiberglass Reinforced Plastics(FRP). A sub-cooling system using $LN_2$ were designed to maintain the coolant temperature of 65K. Finally perpendicular components of magnetic field applied to tapes were calculated 0.24T in the rated operation using 3-D analysis. A real 1MVA HTS transformer will be manufactured in near future based on the design parameters presented in this paper.
This study was designed to investigate actual conditions of textile design education at technical high school in Korea, and to present possible solutions for improving its effectiveness. Inchon Girl's Polytechnic high School was selected as sample of case study because it was the only school which has textile design major. Survey was done through questionnaire and telephone interview. 100 students, 25 graduates, 8 teachers, and 8 managers of textile industry were involved in survey. The data were analyzed by using frequency, t-test, correlation. Statistical analysis resulted in the following suggestions to be considered for maximizing the effectiveness of the textile design education at technical high schools: First, the curriculum should be flexibly reorganized to come up with trends in the market and demands from industry, and also to stimulate and motivate students into the biggest achievements possible. Second, more weight should be given to practical design subjects which have proved to be preferred by students and industry by reducing class hours for non-design subjects or theoretical subjects. Third, equipments and facilities for practical exercise should be open to students anytime needed so that students can improve their practical skills without any restrictions. Fourth, new teachers having majored in textile design at the university should be employed and the existing teachers should be periodically re-educated to keep abreast with new knowledges and technology. Fifth, The solidarity and the connection between schools and companies should be reinforced, not only to provide graduates with more chances to get a job, but also to make education at schools refreshed and updated.

Rails are key elements in railway superstructure since these elements receive directly the train load transmitted by the wheels. Simultaneously, rails must provide effective stress transference to the rest of the track elements. This track element often deteriorates as a consequence of the vehicle passing or manufacturing imperfections that cause in rail several defects. Among these rail defects, transverse cracks highlights and are considered a severe pathology because they can suddenly trigger the rail failure. This study is focused on UIC-60 rails with transverse cracks. A 3-D FEM model is developed in ANSYS for the flawless rail in which conditions simulating the crack presence are implemented. To account for the inertia loss of the rail as a consequence of the cracking, a reduction of the bending stiffness of the rail is considered. The numerical models have been calibrated using the first four bending vibration modes in terms of frequencies. These vibration frequencies have been obtained using the Experimental Modal Analysis technique, studying the changes in the modal parameters of the rails induced by the crack and comparing the results obtained by the model with experimental results. Finally, the calibrated and validated models for the single rail have been implemented in a complete railway ballasted track FEM model in order to study the static influence of the cracks on the rail deflection caused by a load passing.

In the article, the authors investigate the economic security system in the conditions of the powers transformation. It is substantiated that economic security acts as a certain system that includes components and at the same time acts as a subsystem of the highest order. It is determined that the economic security system of regions acting as a system has its subsystems, which include: production, financial, environmental, innovation, investment and social subsystems. The parameters of the economic security system include relative economic independence, economic stability and self-development of economic systems, and it is proved that an important feature of economic security in addition to its systemic nature is multi-vector. It is substantiated that the monitoring of ensuring the economic security system of the development of economic systems of different levels in the conditions of the powers transformation should contain the analysis of social, economic and ecological development of regions; spheres of possible dangers of the development of regional economic systems; the nature of the threats; the degree of the possibility of threats; time perspective of economic development threats; possible consequences of losses for economic entities; the impact of threats to the object of the economic entities' activity; possible asymmetry of economic development of regional economic entities. Possible threats as a consequence of the powers transformation have been identified. A PEST analysis of the impact of factors of different nature on economic security and the development of regional economic systems in the powers transformation is carried out. A recurrent ratio is proposed for the economic security system in the conditions of the powers transformation.

This paper summarised and re-examined the theoretical basis of the commonly used design rule developed by Cochrane in the 1920s to consider staggered bolt holes in tension members, i.e., the s2/4g rule. The rule was derived assuming that the term two times the bolt hole diameter (2d0) in Cochrane's original equation could be neglected, and assuming a value of 0.5 for the fractional deduction of a staggered hole in assessing the net section area. Although the s2/4g rule generally provides good predictions of the staggered net section area, the above-mentioned assumptions used in developing the rule are doubtful, in particular for a connection with a small gauge-to-bolt-hole diameter (g/d0) ratio. It was found that the omission of 2d0 in Cochrane's original equation appreciably overestimates the net section area of a staggered bolted connection with a small g/d0 ratio. However, the assumed value of 0.5 for the fractional deduction of a staggered hole underestimates the staggered net section area for small g/d0 ratios. To improve the applicability of the above two assumptions, a modified design equation, which covers a full range of g/d0 ratio, was proposed to accurately predict the staggered net section area and was validated by the existing test data from the literature and numerical data derived from this study. Finally, a reliability analysis of the test and numerical data was conducted, and the results showed that the reliability of the modified design equation for evaluating the net section resistance of staggered bolted connections can be achieved with the partial factor of 1.25.
To make up for the performance weaknesses of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC), expand the application range of RAC, and alleviate the environmental problems caused by excessive exploitation of natural coarse aggregates (NCA), this study proposes a basalt fiber-reinforced recycled aggregate concrete (BFRRAC)-filled square steel tubular columns that combines two modification methods of steel tube and fiber, which may greatly enhance the mechanical properties of RAC. The axial compression performance for BFRRAC-filled square steel tubular columns was reported during this study. Seven specimens with different replacement ratios of recycled coarse aggregate (RCA), length-diameter ratios, along with basalt fiber (BF) contents were designed as well as fabricated for performing axial compression test. For each specimen, the whole failure process as well as mode of specimen were discovered, subsequently the load-axial displacement curve has obtained, after which the mechanical properties was explained. A finite element analysis model for specimens under axial compression was then established. Subsequently, based on this model, the factors affecting axial compression performance for BFRRAC-filled square steel tubes were extended and analyzed, after which the corresponding design suggestion was proposed. The results show that in the columns with length-diameter ratios of 5 and 8, bulging failure was presented, and the RAC was severely crushed at the bulging area of the specimen. The replacement ratio of RCA as well as BF content little affected specimen's peak load (less than 5%). As the content of BF enhanced from 0 kg/m3 to 4 kg/m3, the dissipation factor and ductility coefficients increased by 10.2% and 5.6%, respectively, with a wide range.

A total of four column base tests with different connection configurations were carried out, and it was found that section failure under combined bending and shear was always critical. Moreover, the proposed column bases were demonstrated to be structurally efficient attaining moment resistances close to those of the connected sections. In order to examine the structural behaviour of the column base connections, a finite element model was established using shell and spring elements to model the sections and the bolted fastenings respectively. Both material and geometrical non-linearities were incorporated, and comparison between the test and the numerical results was presented in details. The design rules originally developed for bolted moment connections between lapped Z sections were adopted and re-formulated for the design of column base connections after careful calibration against the test data. Comparison on co-existing moments and shear forces at the critical cross-sections of the column bases was fully presented. It was shown that the proposed design and analysis method was structurally adequate to predict the failure loads under combined bending and shear for column bases with similar connection configurations.

Study of the main properties of PVDF films produced by two processing technologies such as hot pressing from a melt or solution casting was the aim of this paper. All samples were prepared of as-received PVDF powder. First group of samples was prepared by the hot pressing. Second group of samples was prepared by the solution casting method. PVDF powder was dissolved in dimethylformamide. To characterize properties of samples, different experimental methods such as FRA (dielectric spectroscopy), IR-spectroscopy and DSC/TGA analysis were used in this work. It was found that IR-spectra of both studied groups do not change compared to that for virgin PVDF powder. It confirms that molecular structure is practically independent on the processing technology of samples. The only difference has been found that new band centered at $1723\;cm^{-1}$ appears for samples prepared by the hot pressing method. This absorption band is related with formation of C=C bonds in samples prepared by the hot pressing method in contrast both to PVDF powder and samples prepared by the solution casting method.
In this paper, the performance of a system was analyzed according to the design parameters of a LED secondary lens that can be applied at a very close range, e.g., for direct lighting or display systems. We designed the secondary lens of the very-close-range LED using an aspheric equation and analyzed its performance-particularly the angle of the beam spread, central luminous intensity, and light uniformity-with respect to the thickness of lens, radius, conic constant, and asphericity (4th). Our analysis shows that four parameters affect the performance. The simulation results indicate an optimal thickness of 1 mm and show that a larger radius yields higher performance. The optimal range for the conic constant was determined as -1.21 to -1.25, the optimal range for the asphericity was determined as 0.0047xx to 0.0049xx (4th).
