  • Graphene is a fascinating material with excellent electrical, optical, mechanical, and chemical properties. Remarkable progress has been made in the development of methods for synthesizing large-area, high-quality graphene. Recently, the chemical vapor deposition method has opened up the possibility of using graphene for electronic devices and other applications. This review covers simple and inexpensive methods to grow graphene using polymers as solid carbon sources; which do not require an additional process to transfer graphene from the growth substrate to the receiver substrate.

  • The surface characteristics of polymers for liquid crystal alignment are studied by optical second-harmonic genertion (SHG) tecnique. Using SHG technique, the LC monolayers on rubbed polymer have already been studied. But, in this paper, the SH signals of polymer were observed and the orientational distribution of oriented polymer was studied. Te SHG experiments for side-chain type and main-chain type polymers are carried out as a function of rubbing strength. The orentational distribution of surface molecules of polymers is compared with the LC pretilt angle measured by the crystal rotation method.

  • Aromatic polybenzoxazoles have been known since 1964 as a class of aromatic heterocyclic polymers that exhibit excellent thermal stability. Polyhydroxyamides (PHA), precursor polymers to PBO, can cyclize to farm stable heterocyclic polymers with the simultaneous release of small molecules, which can be expected to act as a fire quencher. • Polymers containing tetrazole groups are very attractive as energetic materials. Copolymer having tetrazole groups could be obtained by 3-steps from commercially available epichlorohydrin. These methods provide a new synthetic pathway to construct polymers containing tetrazole groups from non-energetic polynitrile compounds. These polymers are expected to be good candidates for green and high energetic materials.

  • A dynamic Monte Carlo percolation grid simulation is used to predict the cure behaviour of thermoset materials. Molecules are distributed in a fixed grid and a probability of reaction is assigned to each pair of neighbouring units considering both reaction rates and diffusion. The concentration and network characteristics are predicted throughout the whole curing process and compared to experimental data for an epoxy-amine matrix.

  • Microcellular foaming Process has several merits, impact strength elevation, thermal insulation, noise insulation, and raw material saving etc. This method make the glass transition temperature of polymers low, and diminish the residual stress of polymers. This characteristics of Microcellular foaming process influences the physical properties of recycled polymers. This paper describes about the impact strength change of Microcellular foamed recycled ABS.

  • Scaffolds play a crucial role in the tissue engineering. Biodegradable polymers with great processing flexibility and biocompatability are predominant scaffolding materials. New developments in biodegradable polymers and their nanocomposites for the tissue engineering are discussed. Recent development in the scaffold designs that mimic nano and micro features of the extracellular matrix (ECM) of bones, cartilages, and vascular vessels are presented as well.

  • Two different carbazolylnitrostilbene chromophores with second-order nonlinear optical (NLO) activity were newly synthesized by the reaction of 9-(2-hydroxyethyl)-9H-carbazol-3-carbaldehyde with 4-nitrophenylacetonitrile or 4-nitrophenylacetic acid. The NLO monomers were obtained by reaction of these chromophores with methacryloyl chloride. The side-chain nonlinear optical polymers were synthesized by the copolymerization of NLO monomer with methylmethacrylate using a free radical initiator. The chemical structures of the polymers were identified by spectroscopic means and the polymer properties such as molecular weight, Tg, solubility, UV-visible absorption, and second-harmonic generation (SHG) coefficients were investigated.

  • To prepare chemically stable asymmetric microporous membranes with a hydrophilic surface, which would be expected to have better antifouling properties, poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) blend membranes were prepared by the phase inversion process. PVDF mixture solutions in N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP) blended with several polar potential ionic polymers such as polyacrylonitrile (PAN), poly(methylmethacrylate) (PMMA) and poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (NIPAM) were used for the formation of the PVDF blend membranes. They were then characterized with several analytical methods such as FESEM, FTIR, contact angle measurement, pore size distribution and permeability measurement. Regardless of different polar polymers blended, they all showed a finger-like structure with more hydrophilic surface than the pristine PVDF membrane. For all the PVDF blend membrane, due to the polar potential ionic polymers used, the flux of those was improved. Especially the PVDF blend membrane with NIPAM showed the highest flux among the membranes prepared. Also antifouling property of the PVDF membrane was improved by the use of the polar polymers.
