The tensile failure behavior of polymer matrix composite materials was investigated with the aid of a nondestructive evaluation (NDE) technique. The materials, E-glass fiber reinforced epoxy matrix composites, which are applicable to carbody materials in railway vehicles to reduce weight, were used for this investigation. In order to explain stress-strain behavior of polymer matrix composite sample, the infrared thermography technique was employed. A high-speed infrared (IR) camera was used for in-situ monitoring of progressive damages of polymer matrix composite samples during tensile testing. In this investigation, the IR thermography technique was used to facilitate a better understanding of damage evolution, fracture mechanism, and failure mode of polymer matrix composite materials during monotonic loadings.
Nano-sized titanium oxide powders were synthesized by a polymer matrix technique using pulp and Titanium tetraisopropoxide (TTIP) as starting materials. The synthesized powders were characterized by XRD and FE-SEM. The particle size of the powders was controlled by preparation conditions, such as heat treatment temperature and time. After investigating various drying and heat treatment conditions, 50-100 nm sized homogeneous titanium oxide particles were obtained by treating at $600^{\circ}C$ for 1 h. The crystallization and rapid growth of particles was accelerated by increasing heat treatment temperature and time. Anatase phase generated below $600^{\circ}C$ transformed to the rutile phase with increasing heat treatment temperature. Moreover, above $800^{\circ}C$, heat treatment time had a very large influence on particle growth, and changing the heating condition also had a large influence on crystal growth.
The effect of temperature on natural frequency and damping is investigated in two different composite materials, Kevlar 29 fiber woven and polyethylene cloth, used especially to design ballistic armor. A damping monitoring method is used experimentally to measure the frequency response curve and it is also modeled numerically using a finite element program. The natural frequencies of a material, or a system, are a function of its elastic properties, dimensions and mass. This concept is used to calculate theoretical vibration modes of the composites. The damping properties in terms of the damping factor are determined by the half-power bandwidth technique. Numerically analyzed and experimentally measured time response curves are compared. It is seen that polymer matrix composites have temperature dependent mechanical properties. This relationship is functional and they have different effects against temperature.

The contact resistivity was correlated with IFSS and microfailure modes in conductive fiber/cement composites electro-pullout and AE. As IFSS increased, the number of AE signals increased and the contact resistivity increased latter to the infinity. In dual matrix composite (DMC) test and AE, the number of signals with high amplitude and energy in g]ass fiber composite is significantly larger than that of no-fiber composite. Many vertical and diagonal cracks were observed in glass fiber and no-fiber composite under tensile test, respectively. Electro-micromechanical technique and AE can be used efficiently for sensitive nondestructive (NDT) evaluation and to detect microfailure mechanisms in various conductive fibers reinforced brittle and nontransparent cement composites.
In this study, piezoceramics/polymer composites with 3-3 connectivity were made by BURPS(Burnout Plastic Sphere) technique with PZT ceramics and PVA sphere. And physical and dielectric properties dependent on the PVA wt.% were investigated. The density of porous piezoceramic and pieaoceramic/polymer composites were decreased almost linearly with increasing the PVA wt.%.
To improve the mechanical properties of glass-fiber-reinforced polypropylene (PP) composites through interfacial adhesion control between the PP matrix and glass fiber, the surface of the glass fiber was modified with PP-graft-maleic anhydride (MAPP). Surface modification of the glass fiber was carried out through the well-known hydrolysis-condensation reaction using 3-aminopropyltriethoxy silane, and then subsequently treated with MAPP to produce the desired MAPP-anchored glass fiber (MAPP-a-GF). The glass-fiber-reinforced PP composites were prepared by typical melt-mixing technique. The effect of chemical modification of the glass fiber surface on the mechanical properties of composites was investigated. The resulting mechanical and morphological properties showed improved interfacial adhesion between the MAPP-a-GF and PP matrix in the composites.

The $Zn_2SiO_4:Mn$ phosphors were prepared using polymer matrix technique in order to improve the performance of green emitting phosphors for plasma display panel(PDP). $Zn_2SiO_4:Mn$ phosphor exhibits a strong green emission around 520-530 nm. The emission intensity and particle size of powders were controlled by sintering temperature and raw material composition. The zinc silicate $Zn_2SiO_4:Mn$ single phase were obtained at lower temperature than prepared by solid-state reaction method. PL luminance of $Zn_2SiO_4:Mn$ phosphor was similar to the commercial material.

This paper reports the suitability of a domain decomposition technique for the hybrid simulation of dilute polymer solution flows using Eulerian Brownian dynamics and Radial Basis Function Networks (RBFN) based methods. The Brownian Configuration Fields (BCF) and RBFN method incorporates the features of the BCF scheme (which render both closed form constitutive equations and a particle tracking process unnecessary) and a mesh-less method (which eliminates element-based discretisation of domains). However, when dealing with large scale problems, there appear several difficulties: the high computational time associated with the Stochastic Simulation Technique (SST), and the ill-condition of the system matrix associated with the RBFN. One way to overcome these disadvantages is to use parallel domain decomposition (DD) techniques. This approach makes the BCF-RBFN method more suitable for large scale problems.
There is a limit for deforestation in order to keep the environmental cycle undisturbed. The heart of the paper is to replace the wood to a maximum extent to obtain a sustainable environment. This research aims at new natural composites in which treated hemp fiber used as reinforcement, synthetic cellulose used as particulate to improve the adhesion between matrix - fiber interface and Epoxy LY556 acted as matrix fabricated by hand layup technique. The density, water absorption, tensile properties, impact strength, hardness, flexural properties and compressive properties have been evaluated under ASTM standards and compare the results with existing materials such as wood, aluminium, etc., The composite hemp fiber reinforced polymer (HFRP) could be exploited as an effective replacement for wood and it would be suitable for automotive applications by comparing results.
Multidirectional reinforcement is aimed primarily at overcoming interlaminar weakness, hence a major interest lies in the mechanical properties of multidirectional carbon/carbon composites. Mechanical properties depend on the type of carbon fiber, the size of the fiber bundle, the spacing of the bundles, the angles of the bundles relative to the axes of the block, and matrix formation. In the present studies, PAN based carbon fiber preforms manufactured different size of unit cell have been prepared. Densification of these used high pressure infiltration and carbonization technique with coal tar pitch as matrix precursor was carried out. Scanning electron microscopy has been used to study the fracture behavior of composites. The size of unit cell of the preforms has considerably affected on the flexural properties as well as microstructure of the carbon/carbon composites.
