Solvent-Assisted Soft-Lithographic Patterning of Lyotropic Liquid Crystalline Polymer Film by Flow Control through Patterned Channels

  • We demonstrated a solvent-assisted soft-lithographic patterning method for producing patterned structure and patterned ordering with lyotropic liquid crystalline polymer (LCP) film. Experimental results showed that the liquid crystalline ordering of lyotropic film could be controlled by shearing effects of the fluidic solvent though the patterned mold channels. In this work, two types of lyotropic LCPs were used to investigate the effects of the alkyl chain length of the lyotropic LCP on producing liquid crystalline ordering through the solvent-assisted fluidic patterning.

  • Digitalization in electronic system is required the capacitor which have a large capacitance with small size, low impedance at high frequency, and high reliability. The fabrication and its properties of aluminum solid electrolytic capacitor are investigated. Employing conduction polymer film such as, polypyrrole as solid electroylte, solid type aluminum electrolytic capacitors were made. The surface of insulationg oxide is covered with conducting polymer layer prepared by chemical oxidative polymerization. Thereafter this conducting layer is covered with conducting polymer prepared by electrochemical polymerization. The dielectric properties of these capacitors were also measured and discussed. Regarding on frequency characteristics of the trial made capacitor, impedance and ESR at high frequency is lower than those of the stacked type film capacitor. It is alo confirmed that temperature coefficient of capacitance and dissipation factor of the capacitor are lower than those of film capacitor and liquid type aluminum electrolytic capacitor.

  • The purpose of this project is to research and development of thin film supercapacitor with conducting polymer composite electrodes and polymer electrolyte which have high energy density for thin film supercapacitor. We investigated cyclic voltammetry and charge/discharge cycling of PFPT-flyash electrodes. The first discharge capacity of PFPT-flyash electrode with 40wt.% flyash was 24F/g, while that of PFPT-VOflyash electrode with 40wt.% VOflyash was 32F/g. The capacitance of PFPT-VOflyash composite film with polymer electrolyte was 32 F/g at 1st and 20th cycle, respectively. The capacitance of PFPT-VOflyash/Li cell with 40 wt% VOflyash was 141 F/g at 8th cycle.

Manufacturing of Flexible Patterned Cover Film for Solar Cell by Solution Coating (용액 코팅을 이용한 태양전지용 고분자 유연 패턴필름 제조)

  • The flexible patterned cover film was made by a simple solution coating process using polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) solution with glass beads. The effect of patterned cover film on the efficiency of solar cell has been investigated. It was found that the relative solar cell efficiency increased up to 3.4% with the incident light angle between $0-90^{\circ}$ by the sphere shape of glass bead coated on the film surface. This was understood that the loss of transmittance and scattering due to the light directional dependency on solar cell were minimized because the light entered glass beads normal to its surface regardless of incident light angle. The maximum relative solar cell efficiency was achieved when glass bead shape on the film is hemisphere and the relative efficiency increased with increasing the amount of glass bead on the film surface. However, too much glass beads on the film surface resulted in the lower relative solar cell efficiency due to the lowering of transmittance as well as the occurring of light interference.

  • In this study, the electrical properties of polymer thin film layered by spin-coating method was investigated, and this polymer is one of the polymer applied to insulation layer for display, this polymer has relatively high dielectric constant, hygroscopic property and easy to make thin film by spin-coating. That is, in this study use the polymer that is cyano acrylate terpolymer, and the MIM(Metal/Insulator/Metal) structures were fabricated to measure the electrical properties such as Voltage-Current characteristics and dielectric characteristics. Also the conductivity and dielectric constant has been calculated. As a result, the conductivity in room temperature was $0.85{\times}10^{-14}{\sim}1.35{\times}10^{-14}$[S/cm]. The fact that this polymer be acted as insulator can be supported by this result. The dielectric constant was calculated as $10.39{\sim}12.05$ higher than Dopont Inc., this make it possible to accumulate more charges in insulation layer under same condition.

  • Polymer-like amorphous carbon films were deposited on polyethylene naphthalate (PEN) substrate by plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) and their water vapor transmission rates (WVTR) were tested. propane was used as precursors. To make a polymer-like amorphous carbon film the deposition rate, surface roughness, light transmittance, and WVTR of the films were characterized as a function of the precursor feed ratio and plasma power. The water vapor transmission rates of bare PEN film and single layer PAC on PEN substrate were 6.95 g/m2/day and 0.3 g/m2/day, respectively. The superior property the water vapor permeability of thin layers of PAC was attributed to uniform coverage and good adhesion between PAC film and PEN substrate.

  • To understand the exact charge carrier photogeneration properties of photoactive thin films consisting of a ${\pi}-conjugated$ polymer matrix and a triplet dopant, we prepared two types of polymer, poly(9-vinylcarbazole) (PVK) and poly[9,9-bis(2- ethylhexyl)fluorene-2,7-diyl] (PF2/6) doped with triplet emitters for organic light-emitting diodes (OLED), either iridium(III)fac-tris(2-phenylpyridine) $(Ir(ppy)_3)$ or iridium(III)bis[(4,6-fluorophenyl)- $pyridinato-N,C^2'$]picolinate (FIrpic), as thin film devices by using the conventional method. Those doped film devices, as well as pristine film devices, on ITO substrates were characterized by means of steady state photocurrent measurement for a wide spectral range.

  • Researches on the drying of particle/polymer suspensions receive attentions in technical applications such as manufacturing display and batteries. In this study, the effect of polymers on drying behavior of silica/poly(vinyl alcohol) suspension was investigated in terms of suspension stability and stress development during drying. The effect of polymer adsorption was studied by changing pH. More strongly flocculated suspension with lower pH became more dispersed and close-packed film after drying. Evaluation of potential energy allows us to suggest that the adsorbed polymers which bridge the particles introduce steric repulsion and lead flocculated suspension to dispersed film. When the effect of adsorption kinetics was studied by changing the mixing time, the adsorption amount, characteristic stress and dried film density showed a similar behavior in the form of with a single characteristic time. It implies that the drying process can be determined by simple characteristic equation with a single time constant.

  • We has been studied the thin film encapsulation effect for organic light-emitting diodes (OLED). To evaluate the passivation properties of the passivation layer materials, we have carried out the fabrication of green light emitting diodes with ultra violet(UV) light absorbing polymer resin, $SiO_2,\;and\;SiN_x$, respectively. From the measurement results of shrinkage properties according to the exposure time to the atmosphere, we found that $SiN_x$ thin film is the best material for passivation layer. We have investigated the emission efficiency and life time of OLED device using the package structure of $OLED/SiN_x/polymer$ resin/Al/polymer resin. The emission efficiency of this OLED device was 13 lm/W and life time was about 2,000 hours, which reach 95 % of the performance for the OLED encapsulated with metal.

  • An approach to achieving of spatially homogeneous, ordered ensemble of semiconductor quantum rods in polymer film of polyvinyl butyral is reported. The CdSe/ZnS quantum rods are embedded to the polymer film. Obtained film is stretched up to four times to its initial length. A concentration of quantum rods in the samples is around $2{\times}10^{-5}$ M. The absorption spectra, obtained in the light with orthogonal polarization, confirm the occurrence of spatial ordering in a quantum rod ensemble. Anisotropy of the optical properties in the ordered quantum rod ensemble is examined. The presented method can be used as a low-cost solution for preparing the nanostructured materials with anisotropic properties and high concentration of nanocrystals.
