용해성 폴리이미드의 제조 및 기체투과특성 (The Preparation and the Gas Permeation Characteristics of the Soluble Polyimides)

  • 용해성 PMDA/diamine/dianhydride 폴리이미드를 제조하여 특성을 고찰하고, 상용 알루미나 세라믹막내에 제조한 PMDA/diamine/dianhydride 용액을 코팅하여 기체투과특성을 알아보았다. Tg는 $337{\sim}358^{\circ}C$의 범위로 열적안정성은 우수함을 보였다. 용해성에 있어서는 NMP, DMAc, DMSO, THF, m-cresol의 극성 용매에 대해 대부분 좋은 결과를 보여 주었다. 알루미나막과 용해성 폴리이미드의 점착은 잘 이루어졌으며, 기체투과실험에 있어 6FDA를 포함한 폴리이미드의 경우 높은 투과도를 보였다. PMDA/1,3PDA/6FDA의 경우 질소투과도는 약 $7.6{\times}10^{-7}(mol/m^2{\cdot}Pa{\cdot}s)$의 값을 나타내었고, 질소에 대한 산소의 이상적 분리도, $P(O_2/N_2)$는 6.19였으며, $P(H_2/N_2)$의 경우는 약 70.0의 이상적 분리도를 보였다.

  • 본 연구는 폴리이미드와 폴리이서설폰 중공사막을 이용하여 매립가스의 메탄 회수를 위한 메탄과 질소에 대한 투과도와 선택도를 실험하였다. 폴리이미드와 폴리이서설폰 소재를 건/습식 상전이 법을 이용하여 중공사 형태로 제조하고 표면 실리콘 코팅 후 모듈을 제조하였다. 전자주사 현미경 관찰을 이용하여 제조된 중공사 막의 구조가 치밀한 표면과 망상구조의 비대칭으로 형성된 것을 확인하였다. 압력과 온도가 증가함에 따라 메탄과 질소의 투과도는 증가하였으나 선택도($CH_4/N_2$)는 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. Air gap이 증가할수록 메탄과 질소의 투과도는 감소하였으며 용매치환을 한 중공사막의 투과도는 3.2~7.0배 증가하였다.

An Organic Electrophosphorescent Device Driven by All-Organic Thin-Film Transistor using Polymeric Gate Insulator

  • In this paper, we demonstrate that the organic electrophosphorescent device is driven by the organic thin film transistor with spin-coated photoacryl gate insulator. It was found that electrical output characteristics in our organic thin film transistors using the staggered-inverted top-contact structure showed the non-saturated slope in the saturation region and the sub-threshold nonlinearity in the triode region, where we obtained the maximum power luminance that was about 90 $cd/m^2$. Field effect mobility, threshold voltage, and on-off current ratio in 0.45 ${\mu}m$ thick gate dielectric layer were 0.17 $cm^2/Vs$, -7 V, and $10^6$ , respectively. In order to form polyimide as a gate insulator, vapor deposition polymerization process was also introduced instead of spin-coating process, where polyimide film was co-deposited by high-vacuum thermal evaporation from 4,4'-oxydiphthalic anhydride (ODPA) and 4,4'-oxydianiline (ODA) and cured at 150${\sqsubset}$for 1hr. It was also found that field effect mobility, threshold voltage, on-off current ratio, and sub-threshold slope with 0.45 ${\mu}m$ thick gate dielectric films were 0.134 $cm^2/Vs$, -7 V, and $10^6$ A/A, and 1 V/decade, respectively.

  • In Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) manufacturing, the organic over coat materials over coat materials for insulation layer of color filter with acryl ate was widely used. Therefore, we approach that the organic overcoat material can use to insulation layer for color filter and liquid crystal (LC) alignment layer in this research. The LC aligning capabilities was successful stuided for the first time. The organic overcoat layer and polymer layer was coated by spin-coating. In order to characterize the LC alignment, electric optic and residual DC and atomic force microscopy (AFM) image was used. The good LCD aligning capabilities treated on the organic overcoat thin film surfaces with ion beam exposure of $45^{\circ}$ above ion beam energy density of 1200 eV can be achieved. Also the good LCD alignment capabilities treated polymer on surfaces with ion beam exposure of $45^{\circ}$ above ion beam energy density of 1800 eV can be achieved. Comparing electro-optical characteristics between the Polyimide (PI) and the overcoat, the resultant transmittance of the overcoat considerably matched that of the PI and the residual DC also exhibited similar features with the PI.

폴리이미드 중공사 막을 이용한 N2/SF6 혼합기체 분리에 관한 연구 (Study on the Separation of N2/SF6 Mixture Gas Using Polyimide Hollow Fiber Membrane)

  • 본 연구에서는 고분자 막을 이용하여 6대 온실가스 중 가장 높은 지구온난화지수를 갖는 육불화황(sulfur hexafluoride, $SF_6$)의 회수에 관한 연구를 실시하였다. 막 소재로 이미드 계열의 Matrimid 5218 소재를 건/습식 상전이 법을 이용하여 중공사 형태로 제조하고, 표면 실리콘 코팅 후 모듈을 제조하였다. 제조된 중공사 막은 전자주사현미경 관찰을 통하여 외부 표면에 치밀한 선택층과 망상구조의 하부로 이루어진 비대칭 구조를 확인하였다. 막의 기체투과 특성 확인을 위하여 온도와 압력 변화에 따른 $N_2$, $SF_6$ 단일 기체투과를 실시하였으며, 운전 조건에 따라서 0.78~1.36 GPU의 $N_2$ 투과도와 2.44-5.08의 $N_2/SF_6$ 선택도를 나타냈었다. 제조된 모듈의 혼합기체 분리거동 관찰을 위하여 10 vol.% $SF_6$ 농도를 갖는 $N_2/SF_6$ 혼합기체를 이용하여 온도, 압력, retentate 유량을 달리하여 실시하였으며, 실험을 통하여 압력과 온도 증가 및 retentate 유량 감소에 따라서 회수된 가스 중에 $SF_6$의 농도는 증가되어 최고 37.5 vol.%를 나타낸 반면 회수율은 감소되는 경향을 나타내었으며, 동일한 온도와 압력에서 retentate 유량 증가에 따라서 $SF_6$ 농도는 감소되는 반면 회수율이 증가하여 최고 89%의 회수율을 나타내었다.

전기영동증착법으로 폴리이미드를 코팅한 탄소섬유의 발열 특성 연구 (Heating Characteristics of Carbon Fiber Polyimide-Coated by Electrophoretic Deposition)

  • 금속 발열체는 높은 열손실과 화재 위험성 등의 문제점이 있어 우수한 열전도도와 전기전도도 특성을 갖는 탄소섬유가 대체소재로 각광받고 있다. 그러나 탄소섬유는 약 200℃ 이상에서 산화하여 단선되기 때문에 발열체 적용이 제한적이며, 현재 진공관 형태로 탄소섬유 발열체가 일부 사용되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 진공관을 사용하지 않고 대기 중탄소섬유 산화방지를 위해 전기영동증착법으로 탄소섬유 표면에 내열성이 높은 폴리이미드를 코팅하였으며 인가전압에 따른 코팅 두께와 내열성을 확인하였다. 폴리이미드를 코팅한 탄소섬유 발열체를 직렬 연결하여 만든 히터는 최대 292℃ 까지 안정적인 발열 특성을 보였으며 이는 열전달 시뮬레이션의 발열온도 결과와 유사하였다. 전기영동증착방법으로 코팅한 폴리이미드 층은 200℃ 이상에서 탄소섬유의 산화방지에 효과적이며 발열 안정성을 요구하는 2차전지, 우주항공, 전기자동차 등 다양한 발열 부품에 적용 가능할 것으로 기대된다.

  • Membrane electrode assembly (MEA) for polymer electrolyte fuel cell (PEFC) are commonly prepared in the research laboratory by spraying, screen-printing and brushing catalyst slurry onto membrane or other support material like carbon paper or polyimide film in a batch style. These hand applications of the catalyst slurry are painstaking process with respect to precision of catalyst loading and reproducibility. It has been generally mentioned that the adoption of continuous process is very helpful to develop the reliable product. In the present work, we report the results of using continuous type coater with doctor-blade to coat catalyst slurry for preparing the MEA catalyst layers In a faster and highly reproducible fashion. We show that while expectedly faster than batch style, the machine coater requires the use of slurry of appropriate composition and a properly selected transfer decal material in order to achieve superior MEA plat lnw loading reproducibility. To make highly viscous catalyst slurry that is imperative for using coater, we use 40wt.% Nafion solution and minimize the content of organic solvent. And the choice of proper high surface area catalyst is important in the viewpoint of making well-dispersed slurry. After catalyst coating onto the support material, we transferred the catalyst layer to both sides of Nafion membrane by hot-pressing In this case, the degree of transfer was Influenced by hot-pressing condition including temperature, pressure, and time. To compare the transferring ability, we compared so many films and detaching papers. And among the support, polyethylene terephthalate(PET) film shows the prominent result.

오일리스 부시용 고체윤활제 개발 (Development of Solid Lubricants for Oil-less Bush)

  • This work aims to develop a dry lubricant for oilless bush, especially a solid lubricant, thereby creating a coating method with improved properties of anti-friction and load-carrying capacity without oil lubrication. In this work, spherical-shaped powders of thermosetting resin such as polyimide (PI) are mixed with a binder matrix obtained by mixing a fluorocarbon compound resin such as Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) or Ethylene tetra fluoro ethylene (ETFE) with itself or with a non-fluorocarbon thermoplastic resin such as Polyether ether ketone (PEEK). And these dry lubricant mixtures are thickly coated (200-300 mm in the thickness) on the inner surface of the bush by using a wet-typed air-spray deposition method. It was found that the load-carrying capacity of the solid lubricant for excavator bush (60 mm in diameter) that operates under a high load condition (at 40 MPa) is greatly improved owing to the spherical-shaped powders of thermosetting resin. In addition, the coefficient of friction at the sliding surface is also reduced less than 0.1. Thick coating also lowers the contact stress at the edge of a bush that results in better tribological performances. The result suggests that the lubrication performance and durability life of the bush can be remarkably improved even without lubrication (oil or grease).

Polymer surfaces studied by sum-frequency vibrational spectroscopy

  • Sum-frequency vibrational spectroscopy has recently been used to investigate the surface of the various polymers and was able to find the chemical compositions and structures specific to the surface. Here we report our studies on two specific polymer samples to demonstrate its capability. Polyimide thin films were made by spin coating on fused quartz and $CaF_2$ substrates. The sum-frequency signal originating mainly from the air/polymer interface showed markedly different spectra, indicating the structural change of the polymer surface depending on the underlying substrate. Various polyethylene surfaces were also investigated by sum-frequency vibrational spectroscopy. The surface of polyethylene samples in the CH-region showed different sum-frequency spectra, presumably due to the trace amount of additives having much higher concentration at the air/polymer interface. These examples demonstrate the surface and interface of the polymer could have different structure and chemical composition from those of a bulk, which can be studied effectively by surface nonlinear optical spectroscopy.

LCD Module내 COF Bending에 따른 Lead Broken Failure의 개선 (Improvement of COF Bending-induced Lead Broken Failure in LCD Module)

  • TCP(Tape Carrier Package), COG (Chip On Glass), COF(Chip On Film) are three methods for connecting LDI(LCD Driver IC) with LCD panels. Especially COF is growing its portion of market place because of low cost and fine pitch correspondence. But COF has a problem of the lead broken failure in LCD module process and the usage of customer. During PCB (Printed Circuit Board) bonding process, the mismatch of the coefficient of thermal expansion between PCB and D-IC makes stress-concentration in COF lead, and also D-IC bending process during module assembly process makes the level of stress in COF lead higher. As an affecting factors of lead-broken failure, the effects of SR(Solder Resister) coating on the COF lead, surface roughness and grain size of COF lead, PI(Polyimide) film thickness, lead width and the ACF(Anisotropic Conductive Film) overlap were studied, The optimization of these affecting manufacturing processes and materials were suggested and verified to prevent the lead-broken failure.
