  • In this study, poly (ether-block-amide) (PEBAX)/poly (ethylene) glycoldiacrylate (PEGDA)/zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8)-polyethersulfone (PES) composite membranes were prepared. The gas permeation properties of N2 and CO2 were investigated for each composite membrane. First, the gas permeability in the PEBAX/PEGDA-PES composite membrane decreased with increasing PEGDA content for each molecular weight at PEGDA250, PEGDA575, and PEGDA-700 g/mol. The CO2/N2 selectivity showed a constant value and gradually increased with increasing PEGDA content after 30 wt% PEGDA, and PEBAX/PEGDA250 50 wt%-PES prepared by adding PEGDA250 g/mol 50 wt% showed a selectivity of 15.1. This is because as the PEGDA content increases, the number of diacrylate groups increases, and the CO2 affinity due to the ether structure of PEGDA increases. Gas permeation properties according to ZIF-8 were investigated for composite membranes of PEGDA 0 to 30 wt%, with CO2/N2 selectivity almost constant for each molecular weight. The permeability of N2 and CO2 gradually increased with increasing ZIF-8 content, and CO2/N2 selectivity was the highest at 3.4 in PEBAX/PEGDA250 g/mol 30 wt%/ZIF-8 20 wt%-PES composite membrane.

  • Thermoplastic propellants using thermoplastic elastomer binders show moderate performance and mechanical properties compared to thermoset propellants, but these propellants are widely used in a variety of fields due to low cost of raw materials, simple manufacturing process and stable handling process. In order to utilize thermoplastic solid propellants in various fields, we will study properties depending on the content of oxidants, metal fuels and additives.

  • PEBAX[poly(ether-block-amide)]-NaY zeolite composite membrane was studied on the permeability of penetrant $H_2$, $N_2$, $CO_2$ and $CH_4$ and the selectivity. When the NaY zeolite contents of PEBAX-NaY zeolite membranes were increased, the permeability of $H_2$ was increased, but the permeability of $N_2$, $CH_4$ and $CO_2$ was decreased. By the addition of NaY zeolite into PEBAX, the gas selectivity for $H_2$, $N_2$ and $CO_2$ was decreased except the increase of selectivity of $H_2/N_2$. $CO_2/N_2$, $H_2/CO_2$ and Gas/$CH_4$. The highest selectivity among these gases was from $CO_2$. In particular, the gas selectivity for $CO_2$ was the greatest with a value of 12~156.

  • To study gas membrane using GO (graphene oxide), the PEBAX [poly(ether-block-amide)]-GO polymer composite membrane was prepared by adding GO to PEBAX. Through this composite membrane, gas permeation characteristics for $H_2$, $N_2$, $CH_4$, and $CO_2$ were studied. As a result of the gas permeation test, the permeability of $N_2$, $CH_4$, and $CO_2$ to PEBAX-GO composite membranes gradually decreased as the GO content increased. On the other hand, the gas permeability of $H_2$ increased with the increase of GO content, and it was 21.43 barrer at the GO content of 30 wt%, which was about 5 times higher than that of PEBAX membrane. This is because the GO was easier to operate with a fast and selective gas transport channel for $H_2$ than other gases. The increased selectivity ($H_2/N_2$) and selectivity ($H_2/CH_4$) were influenced by the diffusion selectivity by the permeate gas size. The increased selectivity ($CO_2/N_2$) and selectivity ($CO_2/CH_4$) were more influenced by the solubility selectivity due to the affinity of $CO_2$ and GO for -COOH.

  • Thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) exhibit both elastomeric behaviors at used temperature range and melt processibility. Polyamide based thermoplastic elastomers (TPAEs) are segmented block copolymers with hard blocks consisting of polyamide segments, while the soft blocks usually consist of flexible segments having a low glass transition temperature. The TPAE is one of the engineering TPEs possessing high thermal stability, excellent mechanical performances, chemical resistance and excellent processibility. And they showed wide range of physical and functional properties depending upon the structure of each segment and their relative contents and the hybridization with various inorganic particles. In this review, synthesis, properties, and possible applications of TPAEs are summarized.

  • Chitosan/Pebax composite membranes were prepared with 1 : 1, 1 : 2, 1 : 10, 1 : 30 mass ratio of pebax and chitosan. Gas permeation test were carried out under pressure $6kgf/cm^2$, 35, $45^{\circ}C$ and $65^{\circ}C$ at different temperatures. The gas permeability and selectivity ($CO_2/N_2$) of $N_2$ and $CO_2$ for the Chitosan/Pebax composite membranes were investigated. As the amount of Pebax added to chitosan was increased the gas permeability of both $N_2$ and $CO_2$ increased. The selectivity ($CO_2/N_2$) was 6.9~44.3 in the Chitosan/Pebax composite membranes. With the increase of contents of Pebax and the decrease of temperature, the selectivity ($CO_2/N_2$) increased.

  • In this study, poly(ether-block-amide) (PEBAX)/zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8)-polyetherimide (PEI), and PEBAX/amine-modified ZIF-8 (amineZIF-8)-PEI composite membranes were prepared by varying the contents of ZIF-8 and amineZIF-8. Also the gas permeability properties of N2 and CO2 were investigated for each composite membrane. The N2 and CO2 permeability of the PEBAX/ZIF-8-PEI composite membrane increased as the ZIF-8 content increased, while the CO2/N2 selectivity gradually decreased. In the case of the PEBAX/amineZIF-8-PEI composite membrane, the permeability of N2 decreased slightly, and CO2 increased till amineZIF-8 amount was 0.5 wt% and then decreased when the content increased further. The CO2/N2 selectivity was the highest with a value of 78.3 at 0.5 wt% of amineZIF-8. because the amine modification in the amineZIF-8 improves the compatibility between PEBAX and amineZIF-8, It seems that amineZIF-8 was evenly dispersed in PEBAX, which could be greatly influenced by the porousity of ZIF-8 and also the affinity of amine toward CO2.

  • Chlorine dioxide (ClO2) is widely used for post-harvest sterilization treatment. However, there are limitations in the retail application of ClO2 due to difficulties in handling, expensive facilities, and safety concerns. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a ClO2 technology that can be easily applied and continuously released for a long period. In this study, a series of ClO2 self-releasing sachets were developed. First, poly(ether-block-amide) (PEBAX) and polyethylene-glycol (PEG) composite films containing different ratios of citric acid (CA) were prepared using the solution casting method. The as-prepared PEBAX/PEG-CA composite films were evaluated using FT-IR, DSC, and TGA to confirm chemical structure and thermal properties. Subsequently, PEBAX/PEG-CA composite films were designed in the form of a sachet and NaClO2 powder was transferred into the sachet to achieve a ClO2 self-releasing system. The ClO2-releasing behavior of the sachet was investigated by measuring the release amount of the gas using UV-vis. The release amount of ClO2 increased with increasing CA contents owing to the existence of higher protons (trigger) in the polymer matrix. Further, ClO2 gas was released for a longer time. Therefore, the as-prepared smart sachet can be tuned according to applications and packaging sizes to serve an optimal sterilization effect.
