On Presupposition Projection

  • In this paper, I will review two main theories on presupposition projection and point out their problems, and suggest the directions of a better analysis. Satisfaction theory is based on the single idea that presuppositions must be satisfied in the local context for the interpretation of a sentence. Problems occur because the theory makes only a minimal requirement on the input context for interpretation. They include the problems of weak presuppositions, unmotivated local accommodation, and projection of satisfied presuppositions. Binding theory assumes that presuppositions are anaphoric elements which can be accommodated. I will show that the syntactic notion of binding is not motivated, and claim that presupposition projection is a matter of information. Finally, I suggest the directions for a better analysis.

A new hybrid optimization algorithm based on path projection

  • In this article, a new method is introduced to improve the local search capability of meta-heuristic algorithms using the projection of the path on the border of constraints. In a mathematical point of view, the Gradient Projection Method is applied through a new approach, while the imposed limitations are removed. Accordingly, the gradient vector is replaced with a new meta-heuristic based vector. Besides, the active constraint identification algorithm, and the projection method are changed into less complex approaches. As a result, if a constraint is violated by an agent, a new path will be suggested to correct the direction of the agent's movement. The presented procedure includes three main steps: (1) the identification of the active constraint, (2) the neighboring point determination, and (3) the new direction and step length. Moreover, this method can be applied to some meta-heuristic algorithms. It increases the chance of convergence in the final phase of the search process, especially when the number of the violations of the constraints increases. The method is applied jointly with the authors' newly developed meta-heuristic algorithm, entitled Star Graph. The capability of the resulted hybrid method is examined using the optimal design of truss and frame structures. Eventually, the comparison of the results with other meta-heuristics of the literature shows that the hybrid method is successful in the global as well as local search.

A Prospective Analysis of Dynamic Loss of Breast Projection in Tissue Expander-Implant Reconstruction

  • Background Breast projection is a critical element of breast reconstruction aesthetics, but little has been published regarding breast projection as the firm expander is changed to a softer implant. Quantitative data representing this loss in projection may enhance patient education and improve our management of patient expectations. Methods Female patients who were undergoing immediate tissue-expander breast reconstruction with the senior author were enrolled in this prospective study. Three-dimensional camera software was used for all patient photographs and data analysis. Projection was calculated as the distance between the chest wall and the point of maximal projection of the breast form. Values were calculated for final tissue expander expansion and at varying intervals 3, 6, and 12 months after implant placement. Results Fourteen breasts from 12 patients were included in the final analysis. Twelve of the 14 breasts had a loss of projection at three months following the implant placement or beyond. The percentage of projection lost in these 12 breasts ranged from 6.30% to 43.4%, with an average loss of projection of 21.05%. Conclusions This study is the first prospective quantitative analysis of temporal changes in breast projection after expander-implant reconstruction. By prospectively capturing projection data with three-dimensional photographic software, we reveal a loss of projection in this population by three months post-implant exchange. These findings will not only aid in managing patient expectations, but our methodology provides a foundation for future objective studies of the breast form.

  • Despite of the development of medical equipments and technology. Pancreatic cancer has maked high false positive rate and low survival rate compared to other cancers. Therefore, early catch of pancreatic cancer is the only way to enhance the viability. It is important to find the exact location of the pancreas cancer in early stage. The method of optimum scan for early detection of pancreatic cancer on PET/CT exam is proposed. Examined the anatomical region that potentially can be missing from the supine position of ordinary pet/ct exam. The characteristics and usefulness of angle variation ($0^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$, $90^{\circ}$) of patients scan position is analyzed. The proposed scan method (named JJ-projection) is bringing advantage of anatomical discrimination by separating stomach, liver, gallbladder duodenum and pancreas. ROC curve analysis is shows to advantage of the JJ-Projection method. The sensitivity has increased 4.6% than the supine delay scan method, the results sensitivity has increased from 91% to 95.2%. The specificity has increased from 75.1% to 84%. Compared with the results observed in cancer by biological biopsy, The accuracy has increased from 86.8% to 94.1%.

On Strongly Nonlinear Implicit Complementarity Problems in Hilbert Spaces

  • In this paper, we study a class of strongly nonlinear implicit complementarity problems in the setting of Hilbert spaces H (not necessarily Hilbert lattices). By using the property of the projection and a suitable change of variables, we establish the equivalence between the strongly nonlinear implicit complementarity problem and the fixed point problem in H. Moreover, we use this equivalence and the fixed point theorem of Boyd and Wong to prove the existence and uniqueness of solutions for the strongly nonlinear implicit complementarity problem in H.

  • In this article, we propose a shrinking projection algorithm for solving a finite family of generalized equilibrium problem which is also a fixed point of a nonexpansive mapping in the setting of Hadamard manifolds. Under some mild conditions, we prove that the sequence generated by the proposed algorithm converges to a common solution of a finite family of generalized equilibrium problem and fixed point problem of a nonexpansive mapping. Lastly, we present some numerical examples to illustrate the performance of our iterative method. Our results extends and improve many related results on generalized equilibrium problem from linear spaces to Hadamard manifolds. The result discuss in this article extends and complements many related results in the literature.

An Empirical Study on Evaluation Criteria of Projection Mapping Videos in Terms of Public Design (공공디자인에 있어 프로젝션 매핑영상의 평가요소에 관한 실증적 연구)

  • The necessity of an empirical study on how projection mapping videos are evaluated from consumers' point of view has arisen, as they can lead to visual pollution if factors including spatial characteristics around the structure and details of the contents are not taken into consideration. This study aims to evaluate projection mapping videos and elucidate the question on whether evaluation criteria positively influence the satisfaction level or not. Above all, five evaluation criteria including artistry, creativity, identity, immersion and usefulness were deducted and a hypothesis from preceding research "each evaluation criteria will positively(+) influence the satisfaction level of projection mapping video" has been established. In order to test the hypothesis, big domestic department stores which screened projection mapping videos were selected and a verification experiment has been conducted with ordinary citizens as subjects. In the result of the experiment, among the five evaluation criteria, artistry, creativity, and usefulness were chosen, while identity and immersion were dismissed. The result verifies that if useful information is provided in forms of interesting contents produced with distinctive ideas and creative methods, it will satisfy the consumers as attractive public design.

DIRECT EPIPOLAR IMAGE GENERATION FROM IKONOS STEREO IMAGERY BASED ON RPC AND PARALLEL PROJECTION MODEL

  • Epipolar images have to be generated to stereo display aerial images or satellite images. Pushbroom sensor is used to acquire high resolution satellite images. These satellite images have curvilinear epipolar lines unlike the epipolar lines of frame images, which are straight lines. The aforementioned fact makes it difficult to generate epipolar images for pushbroom satellite images. If we assume a linear transition of the sensor having constant speed and attitude during image acquisition, we can generate epipolar images based on parallel projection model (2D Affine model). Recent high resolution images are provided with RPC values so that we can exploit these values to generate epipolar images without using ground control points and tie point. This paper provides a procedure based on the parallel projection model for generating epipolar images directly from a stereo IKONOS images, and experimental results.

  • In Korea, map coordinates has been confused in use since the map projection system has been complicated by using two different methods i.e., Gauss conformal double projection and Gauss-Kruger projection which are com-plicated in using through history. So, we have to understand the two projections' characteristics and differences. In this study, we would find out a fact that the maximum difference occurred in longitude and latitude is about 15cm at the Korean peninsular. This shift is accepted as proper in GIS and cartographic application but should be considered carefully in converting of the geodetic control point coordinates.
