  • Lagrangian particle dispersion model(LPDM) is an effective tool to calculate the dispersion from a point source since it dose not induce numerical diffusion errors in solving the pollutant dispersion equation. Fictitious particles are released to the atmosphere from the emission source and they are then transported by the mean velocity and diffused by the turbulent eddy motion in the LPDM. The concentration distribution from the dispersed particles in the calculation domain are finally estimated by applying a particle count method or a Gaussian kernel method. The two methods for calculating concentration profiles were compared each other and tested against the analytic solution and the tracer experiment to find the strength and weakness of each method and to choose computationally time saving method for the LPDM. The calculated concentrations from the particle count method was heavily dependent on the number of the particles released at the emission source. It requires lots fo particle emission to reach the converged concentration field. And resulting concentrations were also dependent on the size of numerical grid. The concentration field by the Gaussian kernel method, however, converged with a low particle emission rate at the source and was in good agreement with the analytic solution and the tracer experiment. The results showed that Gaussian kernel method was more effective method to calculate the concentrations in the LPDM.

  • Let H be a separable infinite dimensional complex Hilbert space, and let $\mathcal{L}(H)$ denote the algebra of all bounded linear operators on H into itself. Let $A,B{\in}\mathcal{L}(H)$ we define the generalized derivation ${\delta}_{A,B}:\mathcal{L}(H){\mapsto}\mathcal{L}(H)$ by ${\delta}_{A,B}(X)=AX-XB$, we note ${\delta}_{A,A}={\delta}_A$. If the inequality ${\parallel}T-(AX-XA){\parallel}{\geq}{\parallel}T{\parallel}$ holds for all $X{\in}\mathcal{L}(H)$ and for all $T{\in}ker{\delta}_A$, then we say that the range of ${\delta}_A$ is orthogonal to the kernel of ${\delta}_A$ in the sense of Birkhoff. The operator $A{\in}\mathcal{L}(H)$ is said to be finite [22] if ${\parallel}I-(AX-XA){\parallel}{\geq}1(*)$ for all $X{\in}\mathcal{L}(H)$, where I is the identity operator. The well-known inequality (*), due to J. P. Williams [22] is the starting point of the topic of commutator approximation (a topic which has its roots in quantum theory [23]). In [16], the author showed that a paranormal operator is finite. In this paper we present some new classes of finite operators containing the class of paranormal operators and we prove that the range of a generalized derivation is orthogonal to its kernel for a large class of operators containing the class of normal operators.

  • In this study, cherry kernel shell pyrolytic charcoal was synthesized (CKSC) and composite beads were obtained by blending this pyrolytic charcoal with chitosan and Fe2O3 nanoparticles (Fe-C-CKSC). Cr(VI) adsorption from aqueous solutions by Fe-C-CKSC composite beads and CKSC adsorbents was studied comparatively. The effects of Cr(VI) initial concentration, adsorbent dosage, contact time, pH and temperature parameters on Cr(VI) adsorption were investigated. Adsorption reached an equilibrium point within 120 min for CKSC and Fe-C-CKSC adsorbents. The maximum Cr(VI) removal was obtained at the initial pH value of 1.56 for CKSC and 2.00 for Fe-C-CKSC. The optimum adsorbent dosage was found to be 5 g/L for CKSC and 3 g/L for Fe-C-CKSC. Based on the Langmuir model, the maximum adsorption capacities were calculated as 14.455 mg/g and 47.576 mg/g for CKSC and Fe-C-CKSC, respectively. Thermodynamic and kinetic studies were performed. As a result of adsorption kinetics calculations, adsorption was found to be consistent with the pseudo second order kinetic model. Characterization of the synthesized adsorbents was performed by SEM, BET, FTIR and elemental analysis. This study has shown that low cost adsorbents CKSC and Fe-C-CKSC can be used in Cr(VI) removal from aqueous solutions.

  • This paper is concerned with the modeling and identification of pH neutralization process as nonlinear chemical system. The pH control has been applied to various chemical processes such as wastewater treatment, chemical, and biochemical industries. But the control of the pH is very difficult due to its highly nonlinear nature which is the titration curve with the steepest slope at the neutralization point. We apply SVM which have become an increasingly popular tool for machine teaming tasks such as classification, regression or detection to model pH process which has strong nonlinearities. Linear and radial basis function kernels are employed and each result has been compared. So SVH based on kernel method have been found to work well. Simulations have shown that the SVM based on the kernel substitution including linear and radial basis function kernel provides a promising alternative to model strong nonlinearities of the pH neutralization but also to control the system.

  • The MTF(modulation transfer function) is one of parameters to evaluate the performance of imaging systems. Also, it can be used to restore information that is lost by a harsh space environment (radioactivity, extreme cold/heat condition and electromagnetic field etc.), atmospheric effects and falloff of system performance etc. This paper evaluated the MTF values of images taken by DubaiSat-1 satellite which was launched in 2009 by EIAST(Emirates Institute for Advanced Science and Technology) and Satrec Initiative. Generally, the MTF was assessed using various methods such as a point source method and a knife-edge method. This paper used the slanted-edge method. The slantededge method is the ISO 12233 standard for the MTF measurement of electronic still-picture cameras. The method is adapted to estimate the MTF values of line-scanning telescopes. After assessing the MTF, we performed the MTF compensation by generating a MTF convolution kernel based on the PSF(point spread function) with image denoising to enhance the image quality.

  • A point of a Riemann surface X is said to be its fixed point if it is a fixed point of one of its nontrivial holomorphic automorphisms. We start this note by proving that the set Fix(X) of fixed points of Riemann surface X of genus g${\geq}$2 has at most 82(g-1) elements and this bound is attained just for X having a Hurwitz group of automorphisms, i.e., a group of order 84(g-1). The set of such points is invariant under the group of holomorphic automorphisms of X and we study the corresponding symmetric representation. We show that its algebraic type is an essential invariant of the topological type of the holomorphic action and we study its kernel, to find in particular some sufficient condition for its faithfulness.

  • This paper concerns the use of support vector regression (SVR), which is based on the kernel method for learning from examples, in identification of walking robots. To handle complex dynamics in humanoid robot and realize stable walking, this paper develops and implements two types of reference natural motions for a humanoid, namely, walking trajectories on a flat floor and on an ascending slope. Next, SVR is applied to model stable walking motions by considering these actual motions. Three kinds of kernels, namely, linear, polynomial, and radial basis function (RBF), are considered, and the results from these kernels are compared and evaluated. The results show that the SVR approach works well, and SVR with the RBF kernel function provides the best performance. Plus, it can be effectively applied to model and control a practical biped walking robot.

  • In the ongoing standardization of Versatile Video Coding (VVC), DCT-2, DST-7 and DCT-8 are accounted as the vital transform kernels. While storing all of those transform kernels, ROM memory storage is considered as the major problem. So, to deal with this scenario, a common sparse unified matrix concept is introduced in this paper. From the proposed matrix, any point transform kernels (DCT-2, DST-7, DCT-8, DST-4 and DCT-4) can be achieved after some mathematical computation. DCT-2, DST-7 and DCT-8 are the used major transform kernel in this paper.
