  • Research on object detection algorithms using 2D data has already progressed to the level of commercialization and is being applied to various manufacturing industries. Object detection technology using 2D data has an effective advantage, there are technical limitations to accurate data generation and analysis. Since 2D data is two-axis data without a sense of depth, ambiguity arises when approached from a practical point of view. Advanced countries such as the United States are leading 3D data collection and research using 3D laser scanners. Existing processing and detection algorithms such as ICP and RANSAC show high accuracy, but are used as a processing speed problem in the processing of large-scale point cloud data. In this study, PointNet a representative technique for detecting objects using widely used 3D point cloud data is analyzed and described. And RandLA-Net, which overcomes the limitations of PointNet's performance and object prediction accuracy, is described a review of detection technology using point cloud data was conducted.

  • In this paper, we propose a security architecture for HDLC-based T4 class common data link. The common data links are composed of point-to-point, multi-to-point, and point-to-multi mode. For multi-to-point mode, one node has a bundle of point-to-point links with different end-point on the other side of the links. Thus multi-to-point mode can be considered as a bundle of point-to-point mode. Point-to-multi mode is broadcasting link. For point-to-point mode we adopted robust security network scheme to establish a secure data link, and for multi-to-point mode we use broadcast encryption scheme based on ID-based cryptography to distribute encryption key for broadcasting message encryption. We also included MACsec technology for point-to-point data link security. Computational and communicational complexity analysis on the broadcast encryption have been done.

  • Reverse engineering technology refers to the process that creates a CAD model of an existing part using measuring devices. Recently, non-contact scanning devices have become more accurate and the speed of data acquisition has increased drastically. However, they generate thousands of points per second and various types of point data. Therefore, it becomes a major issue to handle the huge amount and various types of point data. To generate a CAD model from scanned point data efficiently, these point data should be well arranged through point data handling processes such as data reduction and segmentation. This paper proposes a new point data handling method using 3D grids. The geometric information of a part is extracted from point cloud data by estimating normal values of the points. The non-uniform 3D grids for data reduction and segmentation are generated based on the geometric information. Through these data reduction and segmentation processes, it is possible to create CAD models autmatically and efficiently. The proposed method is applied to two quardric medels and the results are discussed.

  • The use of fixed-point digital signal processors, such as the TMS 320C25, requires scaling of data at each arithmetic step to prevent overflows while keeping the accuracy. A software which automatizes this process is developed for TMS 320C25. The programmers use a model of a hypothetical floating-point digital signal processor and a floating-point format for data representation. However, the program and data are automatically translated to a fixed-point version by this software. Thus, the execution speed is not sacrificed. A fixed-point variable has a unique binary-point location, which is dependent on the range of the variable. The range is estimated from the floating-point simulation. The number of shifts needed for arithmetic or data transfer step is determined by the binary-points of the variables associated with the operation. A fixed-point code generator is also developed by using the proposed automatic scaling software. This code generator produces floating-point assembly programs from the specifiations of FIR, IIR, and adaptive transversal filters, then floating-point programs are transformed to fixed-point versions by the automatic scaling software.

  • Reverse engineering refers to the process that creates a physical part from acquiring the surface data of an existing part using a scanning device. In recent years, as the non-contact type scanning devices become more popular, the huge amount of point data can be obtained with high speed. The point data handling process, therefore, becomes more important since the scan data need to be refined for the efficiency of subsequent tasks such as mesh generation and surface fitting. As one of point handling functions, the cross-sectioning function is still frequently used for extracting the necessary data from the point cloud. The commercial reverse engineering software supports cross-sectioning functions, however, these are only for cross-sectioning the point cloud with the constant spacing and direction. In this paper, adaptive cross-sectioning point cloud which allow the changes of the spacing and directions of cross-sections according to the constant spacing and direction. In this paper, adaptive cross-sectioning algorithms which allow the changes of the spacing and directions of cross-sections according to the curvature difference of the point cloud data are proposed.

  • To survive in the current shipbuilding industry, it is of vital importance for shipyards to have the ship components' accuracy evaluated efficiently during most of the manufacturing steps. Evaluating components' accuracy by comparing each component's point cloud data scanned by laser scanners and the ship's design data formatted in CAD cannot be processed efficiently when (1) extract components from point cloud data include irregular obstacles endogenously, or when (2) registration of the two data sets have no clear direction setting. This paper presents reformative point cloud data processing methods to solve these problems. K-d tree construction of the point cloud data fastens a neighbor searching of each point. Region growing method performed on the neighbor points of the seed point extracts the continuous part of the component, while curved surface fitting and B-spline curved line fitting at the edge of the continuous part recognize the neighbor domains of the same component divided by obstacles' shadows. The ICP (Iterative Closest Point) algorithm conducts a registration of the two sets of data after the proper registration's direction is decided by principal component analysis. By experiments conducted at the shipyard, 200 curved shell plates are extracted from the scanned point cloud data, and registrations are conducted between them and the designed CAD data using the proposed methods for an accuracy evaluation. Results show that the methods proposed in this paper support the accuracy evaluation targeted point cloud data processing efficiently in practice.

  • This paper indirectly created high density point cloud data using unmanned aerial vehicle image. Then, we tried to suggest new concept of classification technique where particular objects from point cloud data can be selectively classified. For this, we established the classification technique that can be used as search factor in classifying color information in point cloud data. Then, using suggested classification technique, we implemented object classification and analyzed classification accuracy by relative comparison with self-created proof resource. As a result, the possibility of point cloud data classification was observable using the image's information. Furthermore, it was possible to classify particular object's point cloud data in high classification accuracy.

This paper proposes a new triangular mesh generation method using 3D grids. The geometric information of a part can be obtained from point cloud data by estimating normal values of the points. In our research, the non-uniform 3D grids are generated first for feature based data reduction based on the geometric information. Then, triangulation is performed with the reduced point data. The grid structure is efficiently used not only for neighbor point search that can speed up the mesh generation process but also for getting surface connectivity information to result in same topology surface with the point data. Through this integrated approach, it is possible to create surface models from scanned point data efficiently.

  • In this paper, we propose a lossless compression scheme for cloud point data of the target construction by using doubleness and decreasing useless information of cloud point data. We use Hough transform to find the horizontal angle between construction and terrestrial LIDAR. This angle is used for the rotation of the cloud point data. The cloud point data can be parallel to x-axis, then y-axis doubleness is increased. Therefore, the cloud point data can be more compressed. In addition, we apply two methods to decrease the number of cloud point data for useless information of them. One is decimation of the cloud point data, the other is to extract the range of y-coordinates of target construction, and then extract the cloud point data existing in the range only. The experimental result shows the performance of proposed scheme. To compress the data, we use only the position information without additional information. Therefore, this scheme can increase processing speed of the compression algorithm.

  • This paper investigates the effects of spatial autocorrelation structures in low resolution data on downscaling without ground measurements or secondary data, as well as the potential of geostatistical downscaling. An advanced geostatistical downscaling scheme applied in this paper consists of two analytical steps: the estimation of the point-support spatial autocorrelation structure by variogram deconvolution and the application of area-to-point kriging. Point kriging of block data without variogram deconvolution is also applied for a comparison purpose. Experiments using two low resolution thematic maps derived from remote sensing data showing very different spatial patterns are carried out to discuss the objectives. From the experiments, it is demonstrated that the advanced geostatistical downscaling scheme can generate the downscaling results that well preserve overall patterns of original low resolution data and also satisfy the coherence property, regardless of spatial patterns in input low resolution data. Point kriging of block data can produce the downscaling result compatible to that by area-to-point kriging when the spatial continuity in block data is strong. If heterogeneous local variations are dominant in input block data, the treatment of the low resolution data as point data cannot generate the reliable downscaling result, and this simplification should not be applied to donwscaling.
