The Pt-Ni alloy is an electro-catalyst of interest in the low temperature direct methanol fuel cells(DMFCs). It has been already reported that the Pt-Ni alloy catalysts may even have enhanced activity compared to pure platinum catalyst, depending on how the surfaces are prepared. The order-disorder transition in bimetallic alloy such as $\beta$-CuZn, Cu3Au, and CuAu have been investigated greatly by x-ray diffraction. After annealing the bimetallic alloy, the crystal structure changes as observed in the order-disorder transition of Cu3Au which changes from the face centered cubic to a simple cubic structure. Pt-Ni bimetallic alloy has been already reported to have the face centered cubic structure. However, in nano-scale Pt-Ni bimetallic alloy crystals the crystal structures changes to a simple cubic structure. In this experiment, we have studied the order-disorder transition in Pt-Ni bimetallic nanocrystals. Pt/Ni thin films were deposited on sapphire(0001) substrates by e-beam evaporator and then Pt-Ni alloy were formed by RTA at 500, 600, and $700^{\circ}C$ in a vacuum environment and Pt-Ni nano particles were formed by RTA at $1059^{\circ}C$ in a vacuum environment. We measured the structure of Pt-Ni bimetallic alloy films using synchrotron x-ray diffraction and SEM.

The reaction of 1,1'-bis(dimethylsilyl)ferrocene with various aldehydes in the presence of a catalytic amount of Ni(PEt3)4 lead to the acyclic products by monohydrosilylation. The same reaction in the presence of a catalytic amount of (C2H4)Pt(PPh3)2 leads to the different cyclic six membered ring compound by double silylation. Platinum catalyzed double silylation of 4-cyanobenzaldehyde was generated 5,6-ferrocenylene-1,1,4,4,-tetramethyl-2-oxa-2- cyanophenyl-1,4-disylacyclehexane which was crystallized to have crystal structure.
single crystals of various hexagonal ferrites were grown by a flux technique. For the growing experiment platinum crucibles of size 40 cc and a horizontal siliconit tube furnace were used. Charges consisted of the flux of BaO(SrO)/$B_2O_3$ and the composition of crystals in the system of BaO $(SrO)-Fe_2O_3-ZnO$. The BaO(SrO)/$B_2O_3$ molar ratio of the flux were varied from 1 to 3. Crystals up to 12.5mm in diameter were grown by slow cooling of melts from a maximum temperature of 1, 30$0^{\circ}C$or 1, 350$0^{\circ}C$ to 95$0^{\circ}C$ or 1, 00$0^{\circ}C$ The grown crystals exhibited a tabular hexagonal habits with very well developed ba-sal planes and narrow pyramidal faces of {1011} {1012} and {0001}. For the identification of the grown crystals X-ray diffraction studies were carried out. The effects of va-riations in flux ratio flux percentage and cooling rate on the quality of the grown crystals were studied. Cry-stal habits hillocks etch steps and growth spirals were observed by optical microscope. Magnetic properties of single crystals were measured.
The purpose of this study is to identify the effect of additives and composition on copper surface morphology and mechanical characteristics by copper electrodeposition. Additives such as hydroxy ethyl cellulose(HEC), chloride ion were used in this study. Electrochemical experiments allied to SEM, XRD, AFM and four- point probe were performed to characterize the morphology and mechanical characters of copper in the presence of additives. Among various electrodeposition conditions, the minimum surface roughness of copper foil was obtained when electrodeposited at the current density of 200 mA/$cm^2$ for 68 seconds with 2 ppm of HEC. The minimum value of surface roughness(Rms) was 107.6 nm. It is copper foil is good for electromigration inhibition due to preferential crystal growth of Cu (111) deposited in the electrolyte containing chloride ions(10 ppm) and HEC(1 ppm).
The basic information of ovule and seed characteristics was investigated for five monotypic and endemic genera in the Korean peninsula as categorized by the Flora of Korea category. The carpels and seeds were sectioned with a rotary microtome. Mature seeds were coated with platinum using an ion sputter and observed using a scanning electron microscope. As a result, Abeliophyllum was found to be anatropous and a unitegmic ovule, with a slightly colliculate seed surface and exotestal seed coat type. The ovule of Coreanomecon was anatropous and bitegmic, having a distinct echinate seed surface, and exo-endotestal seed coat type with a prismatic crystal in the mesotesta. The ovule of Hanabusaya was anatropous and a unitegmic, with a long reticulate seed surface sculpture, and distinct exotestal seed coat type. In addition, a wing developed at the opposite side of the raphe bundle. Megaleranthis was an anatropous and bitegmic ovule, having a small pentagonal disk shape, a concave seed surface and exotestal seed coat type. Finally, Pentactina was also anatropous and a unitegmic ovule, reticulate seed sculpture, and endotestal seed coat type. These data will be proving to be a source of good information for securing bio-sovereignty in the near future.
Thin films of platinum were deposited on a $Al_{2}O_{3}/ONO(SiO_{2}-Si_{3}N_{4}-SiO_{2})/Si$-substrate with an 2-inch Pt(99.99 %) target at room temperature for 20, 30 and 60 min by DC magnetron sputtering, respectively X-ray diffract meter (XRD) was used to analyze the crystallanity of the thin films and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) was employed for the investigation on crystal growth. The densification and the grain growth of the sputtered films have a considerable effect on sputtering time and annealing temperatures. The resistance of the Pt thin films was decreased with increasing deposition time and sintering temperature. Pt micro heater thin film deposited for 60 min by DC magnetron sputtering on an $Al_{2}O_{3}$/ONO-Si substrate and annealed at $600^{\circ}C$ for 1 h in air is found to be a most suitable micro heater with a generation capacity of $350^{\circ}C$ temperature and 645 mW power at 5.0 V input voltage. Adherence of Pt thin film and $Al_{2}O_{3}$ substrate was also found excellent. This characteristic is in good agreement with the uniform densification and good crystallanity of the Pt film. Efforts are on progress to find the parameters further reduce the power consumption and the results will be presented as soon as possible.
The chemical behaviour of Pt(Ⅱ) and Pd(Ⅱ) complexes with the organic ligand tetramethylenesulfoxide(TMSO) has been investigated by UV/vis-spectrophotometric, magnetic, and electrochemical methods. Two energy absorption bands are observed in the spectra of these complexes. The crystal field splitting energy, spin pairing energy, and bond strength were obtained from the spectra of the complexes. The electronic properties of the complexes are found to be delocalized, and low-spin state. The correlation between ligand and metals were strong bonding strength. These complexes are diamagnetics. The redox reaction processes of the complexes were investigated by cyclic voltammetry in an aprotic solvent. The redox processes of complexes turned out to be respect to one-electrton one step. These complexes were considerably diffusion and reaction controlled.
The electrocatalytic behavior of the PtCo catalyst supported on the multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) has been evaluated and compared with commercial Pt/C catalyst in a polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell(PEMFC). A PtCo/MWNTs electrocatalyst with a Pt:Co atomic ratio of 79:21 was synthesized and applied to a cathode of PEMFC. The structure and morphology of the synthesized PtCo/MWNTs electrocatalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. As a result of the X-ray studies, the crystal structure of a PtCo particle was determined to be a face-centered cubic(FCC) that was the same as the platinum structure. The particle size of PtCo in PtCo/MWNTs and Pt in Pt/C were 2.0 nm and 2.7 nm, respectively, which were calculated by Scherrer's formula from X-ray diffraction data. As a result we concluded that the specific surface activity of PtCo/MWNTs is superior to Pt/C's activity because of its smaller particle size. From the electrochemical impedance measurement, the membrane electrode assembly(MEA) fabricated with PtCo/MWNTs showed smaller anodic and cathodic activation losses than the MEA with Pt/C, although ohmic loss was the same as Pt/C. Finally, from the evaluation of cyclic voltammetry(CV), the unit cell using PtCo/MWNTs as the cathode electrocatalyst showed slightly higher fuel cell performance than the cell with a commercial Pt/C electrocatalyst.

We fabricated thermally evaporated 10 nm-Ni/(poly)Si, 10 nm-Ni/l nm-Ir/(poly)Si and 10 nm-Ni/l nm-Pt/(poly)Si films to investigate the thermal stability of nickel monosilicides at the elevated temperatures by rapid annealing them at the temperatures of $300{\sim}1200^{\circ}C$ for 40 seconds. Silicides of 50 nm-thick were formed on top of both the single crystal silicon actives and the polycrystalline silicon gates. A four-point tester was used to examine sheet resistance. A scanning electron microscope and field ion beam were employed for thickness and microstructure evolution characterization. An X-ray diffractometer and an Auger depth profiler were used for phase and composition analysis, respectively. Nickel silicides with platinum have no effect on widening the NiSi stabilization temperature region. Nickel silicides with iridium farmed on single crystal silicon showed a low resistance up to $1200^{\circ}C$ while the ones formed on polycrystalline silicon substrate showed low resistance up to $850^{\circ}C$. The grain boundary diffusion and agglomeration of silicides lowered the NiSi stable temperature with polycrystalline silicon substrates. Our result implies that our newly proposed Ir added NiSi process may widen the thermal process window for nano CMOS process.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the morphology and intercellular junctions of the odontoblast of dental pulp in the rat incisor by means of the freeze fracture electron microscopy. Twenty male Sprague-Dawley rats weighing $150{\sim}200g$ were used. After being anesthetized by an intraperitoneal injection of 0.5 ml sodium pentobarbital per kg in body weight(60 mg/ml) the animals were perfused with 2.5% glutaraldehyde-2% paraformaldehyde fixative in 0.1 M cacodylate buffer, pH 7.2 through the ascending aorta for one hour. The incisors were carefully extracted from the jaws and demineralized by suspending them in 0.1 M EDTA in 3% glutaraldehyde (pH 7.2) for two weeks. After demineralization, the specimens were obtained from the portion divided into five equal parts. For freeze-fracture replication, demineralized tissues were infiltrated for several hours with 10%, 25% glycerol in 0.1M cacodylate buffer as a cryoprotectant and then frozen in liquid Freon 22 and stored in liquid nitrogen. Fracturing and replication were done in Balzers BAF 400D high-vacuum freeze-fracture apparatus at $-120^{\circ}C$ under routine $5X10^{-7}$ Torr vacuum. The tissue was immediately replicated with platinum unidirectionally at $45^{\circ}$ angle and reinforced with carbon at $90^{\circ}$ angle unidirectionally or by using a rotary stage. The replication process was monitored by a quartz-crystal device. The replicas were immersed in 100% methanol overnight. The tissue was then digested from the replica by clorox (laundry bleach), placed into 5% EDTA, and washed repeatedly with distilled water. The replicas were picked up on 0.3% formvar-coated 75 mesh grids and examined in the JEOL 100B electron microscope. The results were as follows; 1. Both in thin sections and freeze-fracture replicas, three types of intercellular junctions were recognizable in the plasma membrane of odontoblast: gap junction, tight junction and desmosome-like junction. 2. The nuclear pores were evenly distributed over the nuclear envelope. The pore complex formed a ring about 70 nm in diameter. 3. Gap junctions were found between odontoblasts as well as odontoblasts and neighbouring pulp cells (fibroblast, subodontoblastic cell process, nerve-like fibre). Gap junctions, which were round, ellipsoid and pear-shaped and 600 nm in diameter, were observed in the odontoblast. 4. Numerous round and ellipsoid gap junctions could be frequently seen on the plasma membranes in cell body and apical part of the odontoblasts. On the P face, the junctions were recognized as a cluster of closely packed particles, measuring about 9 nm in diameter, and on the E face, the junctions were recognized as a shallow grooves.
