OPRoS: A New Component-Based Robot Software Platform

  • A component is a reusable and replaceable software module accessed through its interface. Component-based development is expected to shorten the development period, reduce maintenance costs, and improve program reusability and the interoperability of components. This paper proposes a new robot software component platform in order to support the entire process of robot software development. It consists of specifications of a component model, component authoring tool, component composer, and component execution engine. To show its feasibility, this paper presents the analysis results of the component's communication overhead, a comparison with other robotic software platforms, and applications in commercial robots.

  • Currently, various technological models and services are emerging because of the development of information and communication technology and the convergence of industries. The ICT car field is expanding because of technological convergence in the automobile industry. However, ICT convergence services are still being developed based solely on technology; characterization of users and their needs is lacking. Therefore, two types of ICT car services that apply human-centered design processes are developed in this study. These processes create services and models while considering the quality and functions of products based on users (instead of technology) when developing products or services. Usability evaluation was performed on the developed services; a human-centered design process was applied to the results to confirm that the derived services resulted in high satisfaction. In the future, these research results will provide useful applications when developing ICT car services and strategies.

The Development of Reusable SoC Platform based on OpenCores Soft Processor for HW/SW Codesign

  • Developing highly cost-efficient and reliable embedded systems demands hardware/software co-design and co-simulation due to fast TTM and verification issues. So, it is essential that Platform-Based SoC design methodology be used for enhanced reusability. This paper addresses a reusable SoC platform based on OpenCores soft processor with reconfigurable architectures for hardware/software codesign methodology. The platform includes a OpenRISC microprocessor, some basic peripherals and WISHBONE bus and it uses the set of development environment including compiler, assembler, and debugger. The platform is very flexible due to easy configuration through a system configuration file and is reliable because all designed SoC and IPs are verified in the various test environments. Also the platform is prototyped using the Xilinx Spartan3 FPGA development board and is implemented to a single chip using the Magnachip cell library based on $0.18{\mu}m$ 1-poly 6-metal technology.

  • The production technology is the basic of manufacturing for various materials and components. This technology can influence the quality and productivity of leading export products such as automobile, ship, and electronic device. Besides, the production technology is very useful to apply to other manufacturing fields and has a great ripple effect. However, it is very difficult to make the production technology into standardization and knowledge-based database because the production technology is dependent in hands-on experience. In this study, the knowledge-sharing platform for the molding & forming technology which is a branch of the production technology is introduced. This platform is web-based system and has the knowledge authoring tool technologies storage, semantic database, and web portal service. Therefore, the molding & forming technology can be shared and spread easily by the knowledge-sharing platform.

A Study on the Change of Education System with the Development of Digital Content Industry

  • Due to the development of science and technology and the emergence of new industries, the environmental change of the digital contents industry is rapidly progressing. The scope of technological development in the digital contents industry is affecting not only the entertainment industry but also various industries. Recently, with the development of digital convergence using realistic content, games, video, and VR have provided new opportunities for the growth of the content industry. The researcher determined that a new education system would need to be changed as the digital contents industry developed. For this purpose, an AHP questionnaire was conducted for experts with a high basic understanding of the education platform based on previous studies. We proposed a platform model for human resource development as an education system that meets the demand of digital contents industry. The education system for nurturing talents needed by future society should include elements that can interest the learning of users. The platform should not be approached from a system point of view, but should be developed from the content and user's point of view, considering the platform's original purpose.

  • The SoC and digital technology development recently enabled the emergence of information devices and control devices because the SoC present many advantages such as lower power consumption, greater reliability, and lower cost. It is required to use an embedded operating system for building control systems. So far, the Real-Time operating system is widely used to implement a Real-Time system since it meets developer's requirements. However, Real-Time operating systems reveal a lack of standards, expensive development, and license costs. Embedded Linux is able to overcome these disadvantages. In this paper, the implementation of control system platform using Real-Time Embedded Linux is described. As a control system platform, we use XScale of a Soc and build Real-Time control platform using RTAI and Real-Time device driver. Finally, we address the feasibility study of the Real-Time Embedded Linux as a Real-Time operating system for mobile robots.

  • The EDISON is a platform that supports numerical analysis for problem solving in computational science and engineering. We provide a cloud service for users, and provide an environment to access and execution of the simulation service on the web. For now, the EDISON platform provides simulation services for eight applied field on computational science engineering. Users can check the numerical analysis result by web in the computational science and engineering platform. In addition, various services such as community activity with other researchers, and the configuration of simulation environment by user 's needs can be provided. A representative service of the EDISON platform is a web-based simulation service that performs numerical analysis for problem solving of various computational science and engineering. Currently, EDISON platform provides workbench simulation service. It is the web-based simulation execution environment, and result analysis to provide simulation regardless of various personal computing resource or environment in each numerical analysis. In this paper, we build an interface for pre and post processor that can be used in conjunction with the workbench-based simulation service provided by EDISON platform. We provide a development environment with interface that is implemented by applying a pre and post processor optimized for the simulation service. According to simulation and execution are performed by linking the new workbench-based simulation service to the pre and post processor.

  • In this paper, we present an abstract object-oriented plat-form model .suitable for the real-time distributed telecommunication system. The proposed platform is constructed upon the extended version of the real-time, distributed operating system, SROS(Scalable Real-time Operating System), that is developed at ETRI and successfully operated in the ATM switching system for several years. The object-oriented software development and maintenance methodology will resolve the current software crisis in the area of telecommunication and switching systems due to the everlasting maintenance about the huge amount of the existing software and the ever increasing needs for the better and new communication services. In general, an object-oriented software platform realizes the object-oriented methodology and possesses many good aspects like high productivity, better reusability, easy maintenance, et at. The platform is also designed to present the distributed multimedia service in addition to real-time event delivery. Recently, we have been implementing a couple of prototype bated on the proposed platform. Reflecting the evaluation results from these prototypes, the final platform specification will be determined.

  • 도시 발전에 따른 부작용들을 해결하기 위한 한 방안으로 도시에 정보 통신 기술이 융합된 스마트 시티를 구축하고 있다. 스마트 시티 플랫폼은 스마트 시티 서비스의 개발 및 통합을 지원해야 한다. 따라서 스마트 플랫폼이 지원해야 하는 기반 기술과 기능적 및 비 기능적 요구 사항을 분석하였다. 스마트 시티 플랫폼이 지원하는 기반 기술로 사물 인터넷, 클라우드 컴퓨팅, 빅 데이터 및 사이버-물리 시스템의 4가지 범주로 분류하고 구현 가능한 기능적 및 비 기능적 요구 사항과 스마트 시티 플랫폼의 참조 모델을 도출했다. 스마트 시티 플랫폼의 참조 모델은 도시관리자에게 특정 도시 문제를 해결하기 위한 기능적 또는 비 기능적 요구 사항에 따른 기반 기술의 투자와 서비스 개발 범위에 대한 의사 결정에 활용하고. 플랫폼 개발자에게 스마트 시티 구축을 위한 소프트웨어 플랫폼의 기능적 및 비 기능적 요구 사항과 구현 기술을 식별하고 결정하는 가이드라인을 제공한다.

Reproduction based Multi-Contents Distribution Platform

  • As the use of smart devices is being increased rapidly by the development of internet and IT technology, the contents production and utilization rate are showing higher increase, too. In addition, the type of contents also shows very diverse forms such as education, game, video, UCC, etc. In the meantime, the contents are reproduced in diverse forms by reprocessing the original contents, and they are being serviced through the contents service platform. Therefore, the platform to make the contents reprocessing easy and fast is needed. As the diverse contents distribution channels such as YouTube, SNS, App Service, etc, easier contents distribution platform is needed, and the development of the relevant area is expected. In addition, as the selective consumption of the contents having easy accessibility through diverse smart devices is distinguished, the demand for the platform and service that can identify the contents consumption propensity by individual is being increased. Therefore, in this study, to vitalize the online contents distribution, the contents reproduction and publishing platform, was designed and materialized, which can reproduce and distribute the contents based on the real-time contents editing technology in URL unit and the consumer propensity analysis technology using the data management-based broadcasting contents distribution metadata technology and the edited image contents streaming technology. In addition, in the results of comparing with other platforms through the experiment, the performance superiority of the suggested platform was verified. If the suggested platform is applied to the areas of education, broadcasting, press, etc, the multi-media contents can be reproduced and distributed easily, through which the vitalization of contents-related industry is expected.
