  • Records found on labels of specimens deposited at University of Tokyo herbarium (TI) and references about Japanese naturalist, Tamezo Mori (1884-1964) were assembled to produce collector's itineraries from 1909 to 1916 in Korea. Mori collected large numbers of botanical specimens from different parts of the country. In August 1911 and 1912, Mori conducted botanical collections in Jeju and southern parts of Korean Peninsula. In 1913 major collections in North Korea by Mori took place in Mt. Baekdusan, Hamkyongnam-do. Following this exploration, in August 1916 Mori conducted another major collections in Pyeongannam-do and Hamgyeongnam-do. It is estimated that approximately 966 Korean specimens collected by Mori are currently held within the collections of The University of Tokyo herbarium (TI). Significantly these holdings also contain 46 type specimens (11 holotypes, 23 syntypes and 12 paratypes).

  • This paper describes a development of ultrasonic examination analysis software to analyze steam generator of nuclear power plant. The developed software includes classical analysis method such as A, B, C and D-scan images. This software provides the information of shape, depth, size and position of flaws. To do such, we obtain raw data from specimens and/or real pipeline of power plants and, modify the obtained ultrasonic 1-dimensional data according to prepared software design schedule. The developed analysis software is applied to specimens containing various flaws with known dimensions. The results of applications showed that the developed software provided accurate and enhanced images of flaws on various specimens.

  • A total of 34 taxa, 33 species and one variety, are newly added to the moss checklist of Korea. They were collected on Jejudo Island, Samcheok limestone areas in Gangwon Province, and Socheongdo Island from 2015 to 2018 and organized into 19 families and 26 genera. Additionally, eight genera are new to Korea. This study verifies the distributions of nine species whose distributions and specimens have remained unknown thus far. Finally, two unrecorded taxa, consisting of one species and one variety, are identified by reexamining Korean specimens deposited at the National Museum and Science in Japan (TNS). The specimens were collected in 1942 and 1940 from Mt. Baekdusan and Anbyun in North Korea.

  • Type specimens (deposited at TI) for 55 Nakaian taxa described from Ulleung Island were examined. Four taxa of those were confirmed as simple name combinations. Excluding 15 taxa which have already been lectotypified, lectotypes for 25 taxa including Arabis takesimense Nakai, Fagus multineruis Nakai, and Salix ishidoyana Nakai were designated in here. Validity of publication for the names of five taxa was not confirmed here. Type specimens for the remaining six taxa need further examination.

  • Specimens donated by the late Dr. Miki, deposited in the Osaka Museum of Natural History (OSA), were examined. Among about 3,6000 specimens, 104 specimens consisting 48 taxa were from Korea. These were collected by 14 collectors, including Dr. Miki and Hyung-Doo Chang. Taxonomic comments on Korean aquatic vascular plants collection were made, especially on Ranunculus kadzusensis, Potamogeton pectinatus, Zostera japonica, Ruppia truncatifolia, and the Utricularia species, including the three unrecorded species from Korea.

  • This study presents an experimental study of the structural behavior for steel plate-concrete column-to-steel girder connections. Experiments were carried out to investigate the moment-rotation characteristics, failure behavior and ultimate moment capacity of these connections. The results of this experimental study involving three welded moment-resisting connections subjected to cyclic loading are presented. The specimens were fabricated at full scale to evaluate their hysteretic behavior. A description of the test specimens, the details of the joint, the test system and the testing methods are described. The test results showed that the structural behavior of these composite connections was influenced by the connection details.

  • The force transducer in the acceleration plant due to dynamic fracture is calibrated by dynamically using the stress pulses from a longitudinal bar. The bar is supported by two strings attached to the ceiling. The bar velocities before and after impact are measured and a full bridge at bar and transducer is formed by the four strain gauges. A transient recorder is used to store the stress pulse signals of force transducer and bar. For the first test series, three point bend test specimens can be chosen by means of test rig design and the inspection as sample experiment in this presented paper is sufficient for proving with the numerical simulation of the specimen model.

  • Here, we present an updated checklist based on voucher specimens of vascular plants for Gasan Mt. which is located in Chilgok-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do, South Korea. The list includes 322 taxa in 212 genera and 81 families of vascular plants, of which 14 are endemic, six are rare plants, 48 are floristic target species, and 14 are considered naturalized in Korea. Based on voucher specimens, Gasan Mt. was the southern limit of Cimicifuga heracleifolia var. bifida Nakai and Iris odaesanensis Y. N. Lee on the Korean peninsula. Moreover, we confirmed a hybrid plant deriving from two Iris parents, I. minutoaurea Makino and I. odaesanensis, in a mountain fortress of Gasan Mt. We also present online databases including 325 voucher specimens deposited at the Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine (KIOM; http://oasis.kiom.re.kr/herblib). This study has great significance as the first floristic study of Korean plants sharing virtual specimens online.

  • The author described four triple hybrids by investigating 5000 specimens collected during a period of ten years from all parts of Korea. He concluded that Key factors used for an identification of triple hybrids were mainly trichom types and acorn cup scales. With a plate showing hybrid plants and fruiting characters (latin and Korean).
