The failure probabilities of pipes in nuclear power plants due to stress corrosion are obtained using the P-PIE program, which is developed for evaluating failure probability of pipes based on the existing PRAISE program. Leak, big leak and LOCA(loss of coolant accident) probabilities are calculated as a function of operating time for several pipes in a domestic nuclear plant. The sensitivity analysis is also performed to find out the important parameters for the failure of pipes due to stress corrosion. The results show that the steady state oxygen concentration and steady state temperature are important parameters and failure probability is very low when the oxygen concentration is maintained according to the regulation.
In most PEM fuel cell research, effects of cell geometry, physical properties of component such as membrane, carbon cloth, catalyst, etc. and water transport phenomena are key issues. The scope of these research was limited to single cell and stack except BOP(Balance of plant) of fuel cell. The research fouced on the fuel cell system usually neglect to consider detailed transport phenomena in the cell. The research of the fuel cell system was interested in a system performance and system dynamics. In this paper, the effect of the anode recirculation is calculated using the 2D steady-state model. For this work, 2D steady-state modeling and experiments are performed. For convenience of modifying of model equation, not commercial pakage but the in-house algorithm was used in simulation. For an vehicle industry, the analysis of the anode recirculation system helps the optimization of operating condition of the fuel cell.
The purpose of this paper is to extensively review the condition monitoring (CM) techniques using empirical models in an effort to reduce or eliminate unexpected downtimes in general industry, and to illustrate the feasibility of applying them to the nuclear industry. CM provides on-time warnings of system states to enable the optimal scheduling of maintenance and, ultimately, plant uptime is maximized. Currently, most maintenance processes tend to be either reactive, or part of scheduled, or preventive maintenance. Such maintenance is being increasingly reported as a poor practice for two reasons: first, the component does not necessarily require maintenance, thus the maintenance cost is wasted, and secondly, failure catalysts are introduced into properly working components, which is worse. This paper first summarizes the technical aspects of CM including state estimation and state monitoring. The mathematical background of CM is mature enough even for commercial use in the nuclear industry. Considering the current computational capabilities of CM, its application is not limited by technical difficulties, but by a lack of desire on the part of industry to implement it. For practical applications in the nuclear industry, it may be more important to clarify and quantify the negative impact of unexpected outcomes or failures in CM than it is to investigate its advantages. In other words, while issues regarding accuracy have been targeted to date, the concerns regarding robustness should now be concentrated on. Standardizing the anticipated failures and the possibly harsh operating conditions, and then evaluating the impact of the proposed CM under those conditions may be necessary. In order to make the CM techniques practical for the nuclear industry in the future, it is recommended that a prototype CM system be applied to a secondary system in which most of the components are non-safety grade. Recently, many activities to enhance the safety and efficiency of the secondary system have been encouraged. With the application of CM to nuclear power plants, it is expected to increase profit while addressing safety and economic issues.
To achieve safe operation and to improve economics it is imperative to monitor and analyse demand and supply of utilities and to meet utility needs in time. The main objective of motor/turbine processes is to manipulate steam and electricity balances in utility plants. The optimal operation of motor/turbine processes is by far the most important to improve economics in the utility plant. In order to analyse motor/turbine processes, we need steady state models for steam generation equipments and steam distribution devices as well as turbine generators. In addition heuristics concerning various operational situations are required. The motor/turbine optimal operation system is based on utility models and operational knowledgebase and provides optimal operating conditions when the amount of steam demand from various steam headers is changed frequently. The optimal operation system also produces optimal selection of driving devices for utility pumps to reduce operating cost.

Chemical decontamination of primary systems in a nuclear power plant (NPP) prior to commencing the main decommissioning activities is required to reduce radiation exposure during its process. The entire process is repeated until the desired decontamination factor is obtained. To achieve improved decontamination factors over a shorter time with fewer cycles, the appropriate flow characteristics are required. In addition, to prepare an operating procedure that is adaptable to various conditions and situations, the transient analysis results would be required for operator action and system impact assessment. In this study, the flow characteristics in the steady-state and transient conditions for the chemical decontamination operations of the Kori-1 NPP were analyzed and compared via the MARS-KS code simulation. Loss of residual heat removal (RHR) and steam generator tube rupture (SGTR) simulations were conducted for the postulated abnormal events. Loss of RHR results showed the reactor coolant system (RCS) temperature increase, which can damage the reactor coolant pump (RCP)s by its cavitation. The SGTR results indicated a void formation in the RCS interior by the decrease in pressurizer (PZR) pressure, which can cause surface exposure and tripping of the RCPs unless proper actions are taken before the required pressure limit is achieved.

In general, most physical systems are complex, highly non-linearity, affected by disturbance, incomplete knowledge, and even interactive change with the operating points. To solve this problem, the research of modem control theory and controller is proceeding. Before appling the proposed controller to the real system, however, it needs an apparatus which can verify the proposed controller for being not damaged the plant. In this paper, therefore, a RCGA-based PI-type state feedback controller using reduced-order observer is implemented and applied to the seesaw system and a series of simulation are carried out to verify the effectiveness of the control system.

This work demonstrates the results of full-scale numerical experiments of a hybrid thorium-containing fuel plant operating in a state close to critical due to a controlled source of D-T neutrons. The proposed facility represented a level of generated power (~10-100 MWt) in a small pilot. In this work, the simulation of the D-T neutron plasma source operation in conjunction with the facility blanket was performed. The fission of fuel nuclei and the formation of spatial-energy release were studied in this simulation, in pulsed and stationary modes of the facility operation. The optimization results of neutronic and fluid dynamics studies to level the emerging offsets of the radial energy formed in the volume of the facility multiplying part due to the pulsed operation of the D-T neutron plasma source were presented. The results will be useful in improving the power control-based subcriticality monitoring method in coupled systems of the "pulsed neutron source-subcritical fuel assembly" type.

IGCC(Integrated Coal Gasification and Combined Cycle) plants can be among the most advanced and environmental systems for electric energy generation from various feed stocks and is becoming more and more popular in new power generation fields. In this work, the performance of IGCC plants employing Shell gasification technology and a GE 7FB gas turbine engine was simulated using IPSEpro open-equation modeling environment for different operating conditions. Performance analyses and comparisons of all operating cases were performed based on the design cases. Discussions were focused on gas composition, syngas production rate and overall performance. The validation of key steady-state performance values calculated from the process models were compared with values from the provided heat and material balances for Shell coal gasification technology. The key values included in the validation included the inlet coal flow rate; the mass flow rate, heating value, and composition of major gas species (CO, H2, CH4, H2O, CO2, H2S, N2, Ar) for the syngas exiting the gasifier island; and the HP and MP steam flows exiting the gasifier island.
In this paper, the reliability estimation of pipelines is performed by employing the probabilistic method, which accounts for the uncertainties in the load and resistance parameters of the limit state function. The FORM (first order reliability method) and the SORM (second order reliability method) are carried out to estimate the failure probability of pipeline utilizing the FAD (failure assessment diagram). And the reliability of pipeline is assessed by using this failure probability and analyzed in accordance with a target safety level. Furthermore, the MCS (Monte Carlo Simulation) is used to verify the results of the FORM and the SORM. It is noted that the failure probability increases with the increase of dent depth, gouge depth, operating pressure, outside radius, and the decrease of wall thickness. It is found that the FORM utilizing the FAD is a useful and is an efficient method to estimate the failure probability in the reliability assessment of a pipeline. Furthermore, the pipeline safety assessment technique with the deterministic procedure utilizing the FAD only is turned out more conservative than those obtained by using the probability theory together with the FAD. The probabilistic method such as the FORM, the SORM and the MCS can be used by most plant designers regarding the operating condition and design parameters.

Pressure pulsation of exciting sources that generally occurs on the piping system connected to the discharge of BFP(boiler feed water pump) in power plants causes wave reflection, wave interference, resonance, standing wave and so on. But if the operating speed of the pump is changed, the state of the noise and vibration can be done because characteristics of the exciting source are changed. This paper is to investigate the cause of the noise and vibration occurring on the piping system when the operating speed of BFP is down in accordance with lowering of the power generation. It is approached to two points of view ; Firstly, it is examined whether the pulsation source impacts on the shell mode vibration that vibrates radially across the cross-section of the pipe. But it doesn't affect the shell mode as much as the resonance occurs. Secondly, to find the relation between the pulsation source and the acoustic mode of the piping system, analysis for the piping system by indirect BEM(boundary element method) is carried out. Therefore it is investigated that the mechanism of the noise and vibration relates with acoustic mode of the piping system.
