  • This paper presents a procedure of implementing a robust controller for a paper-making plant in DCSs. A paper-making process generally has triple problems to automatically tune its output qualities : Long transport delays which are not able to be simply linearized. The transfer matrix of the process is not square. And every plant model has some uncertainty in low and middle frequency region. To tackle these problems, a multi-input / multi-output (MIMO) plant model having some uncertainty was derived by considering some physical and mechanical principles of the process.   • In this paper, multi-variable fuzzy model for efficient combustion control of refuse incineration plant is obtained. First, to obtain model of incineration plant which is complex and nonlinear multi-variable fuzzy modeling is performed. Obtained multi-variable fuzzy model predicts outputs of incinerator almost exactly. Then using multi-variable fuzzy model we can build simulator which is used as operation simulator for building of control strategy and training of operator.

  • An integrated framework of modeling the human operator cognitive behavior during nuclear power plant accident scenarios is presented. It incorporates both plant and operator models. The basic structure of the operator model is similar to that of existing cognitive models, however, this model differs from those existing ones largely in too aspects. First, using frame and membership function, the pattern matching behavior, which is identified as the dominant cognitive process of operators responding to an accident sequence, is explicitly implemented in this model. Second, the non-task-related human cognitive activities like effect of stress and cognitive biases such as confirmation bias and availability bias, are also considered. A computer code, OPEC is assembled to simulate this framework and is actually applied to an SGTR sequence, and the resultant simulated behaviors of operator are obtained.

  • Stability of high-speed roll-to-roll printing machines is one of the most important factors that are required for the printing machines to operate properly and to obtain reasonable printing performance. This paper proposes a new model for the web-tension system of a high-speed gravure printing machine considering span-length variations due to dancer rollers, and analyzes the stability of plant dynamics of the printing machine using the proposed model. Span-length variations due to dancer motions are considered for the modeling of plant dynamics in two ways; one is to include the effect of span-length variations without considering dancer inertias and viscous frictions, and the other is to include the effect of span-length variations with considering dancer inertias and viscous frictions. The stability of the plant model is analyzed for various web-speeds using the eigenvalues of the linearized model about operating points.

  • From the power plants in a steel plant, environment pollutants such as SOx, NOx, CO are emitted by the combustion reaction between the fuels those are by-product gases and oil. To reduce the amounts of the pollutants, it must be important that build the predictive models for the emission of the pollutants. In this paper, the model that predict the amount of future fuel consumption and the model that predict the amount of generated pollutants for the used fuel amounts is developed by using Gibb's free energy minimization method with the temperature correction techniques and neural network back propagation method. For some data set, the calculation results from this models are compared with the real emission amounts of SOx, NOx and result of the calculation by the ASPEN plus which is a commercial software. The result from this model is better than the result by ASPEN plus for this problem.

  • Refuse incineration plant operations involve many kinds of uncertain factors, such as the variable physical properties of refuse as fuel and the complexity of the burning phenomenon. That makes it very difficult apply conventional control methods to the combustion control of the refuse. In this paper, an adaptive fuzzy model predictive controller is proposed for the combustion control of the refuse. In this paper, an adaptive fuzzy model predictive controller is proposed for the combustion control of the refuse. And computer simulation was carried out to evaluate performance of the proposed controller.

  • Microcomputer-based PID governor which can be provided either stability or rapid response for small hydro power plant at low cost is developed and adapted to the 5 KW model hydro power for the performance test. The effects of PID gains on stability boundaries of the hydraulic turbine generating system is investigated. For the optimum selection of the PID gains, general equations are derived on the base of the experiments. This control system has a good performance at the model of hydro power plant. For the prediction of the control system, a mathematical model was developed and the results of the simulation using this model was matched with the experimental results.

  • In this study an elevator plant model is made with an electro-hydraulic servo valve and a single rod cylinder. A PID controller, a velocity feedback PID controller and a MRAC controller ate designed. Experimental apparatus including an elevator plant model and these controllers are constructed. In case of experiment, external load which is made with a hydraulic cylinder and a pressure control valve burdens varying load to the elevator plant model being driven. With experiment, the control performances of three proposed control methods are compared.
