The dome stretching and tension test have been made to obtain a forming limit curve(FLC) for the copper alloy which is used for manufacturing the regenerative cooling chamber. For experimental survey of the forming limit curve, we have used in-plane tension specimen to obtain tension-compression strain state and also out of plane specimen to obtain tension-tension strain state through dome stretching test. All specimens are divided into longitudinal and radial direction specimens by the manufacturing method. The test results shows that in tension-tension region, copper alloy possesses a maximum major strain of 62.3% and maximum minor strain of 58.6%. In the tension-compression region, maximum major strain is 60.5% and maximum minor strain is 25.8%.
It has been demonstrated in plane strain compression tests performed on dense Toyoura sand and Silver Leighton Buzzard sand, that the newly developed instrumentation for small strain measurements was capable of measuring the altering stiffness of sands for a wide range of shear strain from ($10^{-6}$to $10^{-2}$. It was found that for the range of shear strain($\gamma$) from $10^{-5}$ to those at peak, the Rowe's stressiilatancy relation seemed to be a good approximation for Toyoura sand and Silver Leighton Buzzard sand. However, the value of K and Poisson's ratio(at elastic range:${\nu}_{psc}^e$) varied with sand types. It was also found that the value of ${\nu}_{psc}^e$ and stress -dilatancy relation was irrespective of overconsolidation ratio(OCR).
This paper presents a new numerical solution of the ultimate lateral capacity of rectangular piles in clay. The two-dimensional plane strain finite element was employed to determine the limit load of this problem. A rectangular pile is subjected to purely lateral loading along either its major or minor axes. Complete parametric studies were performed for two dimensionless variables including: (1) the aspect ratios of rectangular piles were studied in the full range from plates to square piles loaded along either their major or minor axes; and (2) the adhesion factors between the soil-pile interface were studied in the complete range from smooth surfaces to rough surfaces. It was found that the dimensionless load factor of rectangular piles showed a highly non-linear function with the aspect ratio of piles and a slightly non-linear function with the adhesion factor at the soil-pile interface. In addition, the dimensionless load factor of rectangular piles loaded along the major axis was significantly higher than that loaded along the minor axis until it converged to the same value at square piles. The solutions of finite element analyses were verified with the finite element limit analysis for selected cases. The empirical equation of the dimensionless load factor of rectangular piles was also proposed based on the data of finite element analysis. Because of the plane strain condition of the top view section, results can be only applied to the full-flow failure mechanism around the pile for the prediction of limiting pressure at the deeper length of a very long pile with full tension interface that does not allow any separation at soil-pile interfaces.
Despite a number of advantages of reinforced earth walls over conventional concrete retaining walls, there exist concerns over long-term residual deformation when subjected to repeated and/or cyclic loads, especially when used as part of permanent structures. In view of these concerns, in this paper time-dependent deformation characteristics of geosynthetic reinforced soil under sustained and/or repeated loads were investigated using a series of plane strain compression tests on geogrid reinforced weathered granite soil specimens. The results indicate that sustained or repeated loads can yield appreciable magnitudes of residual deformations, and that the residual deformations are influenced not only by the loading characteristics but by the mechanical properties of geogrid. It is also found that the preloading technique can be effectively used in controlling residual deformations of reinforced soils subjected to sustained and/or repeated loads.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the fracture toughness of dental composite resins and to investigate the filler factor affecting the fracture behaviour on which the degree of fracture toughness depends. Six kinds of commercially available composite resin;, including two of each macrofilled, microfilled, and hybrid type were used for this study, The plane strain fracture toughness ($K_{10}$) was determined by three-point bending test using the single edge notch specimen according to the ASTM-E399. The specimens were fabricated with visible light curing or self curing of each composite resin previously inserted into a metal mold, and three-point bending test was conducted with cross-head speed of 0.1mm/min following a day's storage of the specimens in $37^{\circ}C$ distilled water. The filler volume fractions were determined by the standard ashing test according to the ISO-4049. Acoustic Emission(AE), a nondestructive testing method detecting the elastic wave released from the localized sources In material under a certain stress, was detected during three-point bending test and its analyzed data was compared with, canning electron fractographs of each specimen. The results were as follows : 1. The filler content of composite resin material was found to be highest in the hybrid type followed by the macrofilled type, and the microfilled type. 2. It was found that the value of plane strain fracture toughness of composite resin material was in the range from 0.69 MPa$\sqrt{m}$ to 1 46 MPa$\sqrt{m}$ and highest In the macrofilled type followed by the hybrid type, and the microfilled type. 3. The consequence of Acoustic Emission analysis revealed that the plane strain fracture toughness increased according as the count of Acoustic Emission events increased. 4. The higher the plane strain fracture toughness became, the higher degree of surface roughness and irregularity the fractographs demonstrated.

The three-dimensional strength behavior of compacted decomposed granite soil was studied using cubical triaxial tests with independent control of the three principal stresses. All specimens were loaded under conditions of principal stress direction fixed and aligned with the directions of compacted plane. For comparable test conditions, the major principal strain and volume strain to failure were smallest when the major principal stress acted perpendicular to the compacted plane. The opposite extremes were obtained when the major principal stress acted parallel to the compacted plane. In cubical triaxial tests with same b values and with ${\theta}$ values in one of three sectors of the octahedral plane, independent of the range of ${\theta}$, higher friction angles are obtained in tests with b greater than in triaxial compression tests in which b 0.0, Comparison between the results of the drained cubical triaxial tests on lksan compacted decomposed granite soil and the cross section of the Mohr-Coulomb failure surface as well as the cross section of the Mohr-Coulomb failure surface were made. Lade's isotropic failure criterion based on vertical specimens overestimates the strengths for tests performed with values of 0 between 90˚ and 1 50˚ the Mohr-Coulomb criterion generally underestimates the strengths of tests performed with values of ${\theta}$ between $0^{\circ}$ and $180^{\circ}$ except around the $120^{\circ}$.
FEM requires the stress-strain relationship equations for numerical analyses. However, most formulations for the stress-strain relationship published up to the present are not satisfactory enough to properly express all the levels from the small strain to the peak. Tatsuoka and Shibuya (1991) suggested a new single formulation applicable not only to a wide range of geo-materials from soft clay to soft rock, but also to a wide range of strain levels from $10^{-6}$ to $10^{-2}$. The plain strain compression test is carried out to seven samples of research standard sand specimens and two samples of glass beads, which have been used at world-renowned research institutes. In this study, strains of the maximum principal stress (${\sigma}_1$) and the minimum principal stress (${\sigma}_3$) were thoroughly measured from $10^{-6}$ to $10^{-2}$, and the result, applied to Tatsuoka and Shibuya's new formulation, coincided closely with the measured data of the stress-strain relationship from the small strain to the peak.
The main goal of this research is to examine the in-plane and out-of-plane forced vibration of a curved nanocomposite microbeam. The in-plane and out-of-plane displacements of the structure are considered based on the first order shear deformation theory (FSDT). The curved microbeam is reinforced by functionally graded carbon nanotubes (FG-CNTs) and thus the extended rule of mixture is employed to estimate the effective material properties of the structure. Also, the small scale effect is captured using the strain gradient theory. The structure is rested on a nonlinear orthotropic viscoelastic foundation and is subjected to concentrated transverse harmonic external force, thermal and magnetic loads. The derivation of the governing equations is performed using energy method and Hamilton's principle. Differential quadrature (DQ) method along with integral quadrature (IQ) and Newmark methods are employed to solve the problem. The effect of various parameters such as volume fraction and distribution type of CNTs, boundary conditions, elastic foundation, temperature changes, material length scale parameters, magnetic field, central angle and width to thickness ratio are studied on the frequency and force responses of the structure. The results indicate that the highest frequency and lowest vibration amplitude belongs to FGX distribution type while the inverse condition is observed for FGO distribution type. In addition, the hardening-type response of the structure with FGX distribution type is more intense with respect to the other distribution types.

A basic assumption in the current design and analysis of reinforced concrete(RC) box structures, which are constructed by the open cut and fill method, is that the displacements and forces are uniform in the longitudinal direction of the structure. The solution may be therefore obtatined from the analysis of a unit wide strip along longitudinal axis. This strip is said to be in a plane strain condition, meaning that the out of plane deformations are vanished. The current design of box structure is carried out by the result of planar frame model for the sake of simplicity. The purpose of this study is to show more rational design method of box culverts considering a rigid zone of corner joints. The current analysis of box structures will be compared with the plane strain analysis as well as 3-d shell model. Reinforcement quantity is also determined to resist the tensile force in corner joints of box structures using strut-tie model which has been developed through the elastic analysis.

In this paper the tool geometry of the PSS test were optimized in order to assure the reliability of the test. Considering many factors for optimization of the tool geometry, computer-simulation technique using three-dimensional finite element method(FEM) was used. Three design variables -the punch length, punch crown and punch corner radius- are chosen to be optimized according to the Taguchi's experiment technique with the L9 orthogonal array. The optimum condition to ensure the plane strain mode over the overall area of the specimen was clarified. Moreover the simulation results are confirmed by experiment.
