Plain concrete is a brittle material with a very low tensile strength compared to compressive strength and critical tensile strain. This study analyzed the dynamic characteristics of high-performance fiber-reinforced cementitious composites based on slurry-infiltrated fiber concrete (SIFCON-based HPFRCC), which maximizes the steel-fiber volume fraction and uses high-strength mortar to increase resistance to loads, such as explosion and impact, with a very short acting time. For major experimental variables, three levels of fiber aspect ratio and five levels of fiber volume fraction between 6.0% and 8.0% were considered, and the flexural strength and toughness characteristics were analyzed according to these variables. Furthermore, three levels of the aspect ratio of used steel fibers were considered. The highest flexural strength of 65.0 MPa was shown at the fiber aspect ratio of 80 and the fiber volume fraction of 7.0%, and the flexural strength and toughness increased proportionally to the fiber volume fraction. The test results according to fiber aspect ratio and fiber volume fraction revealed that after the initial crack, the load of the SIFCON-based HPFRCC continuously increased because of the high fiber volume fraction. In addition, sufficient residual strength was achieved after the maximum strength; this achievement will bring about positive effects on the brittle fracture of structures when an unexpected load, such as explosion or impact, is applied.

The explicit scheme for finite element analysis of sheet metal forming problems has been widely used for providing practical solutions since it improves the convergency problem, memory size and computational time especially for the case of complicated geometry and large element number. The explicit schemes in general use are based on the elastic-plastic modeling of material requiring large computataion time. In the present work, a basic formulation for rigid-plastic explicit finite element analysis of plain strain sheet metal forming problems has been proposed. The effect of some basic parameters involved in the dynamic analysis has been studied in detail. Thus, the effective ranges of parameters have been proposed for numerical simultion by the rigid-plastic explicit finite element method. A direct trial-and-error method is introduced to treat contact and friction. In computation, sheet material is assumed to possess normal anisotropy and rigid-plastic workhardening characteristics. In order to show the validity and effectiveness of the proposed explicit scheme, computations are carried out for cylindrical punch stretching and the computational results are compared with those by the implicit scheme as well as with a commercial code. The proposed rigid-plastic exlicit finite element method can be used as a robust and efficient computational method for analysis of sheet metal forming.

Fatigue tests were conducted on the aluminum alloy, A7075-T6 to determine the most reliable fretting fatigue damage parameter. Specimens with grooves were used, so that either fretting fatigue crack at the pad/specimen interface or plain fatigue crack at the groove could be nucleated, depending on the pad pressure. Both the crack nucleation location and initial crack orientation were examined using optical microscopy, and the results were used to assess the reliability of the various fretting fatigue damage parameters that have been most commonly used in the literature. Finite element analysis was employed to obtain the stress and strain data of the specimen, which were needed to estimate the parameter values and the orientation of the critical plane. It was revealed that both the Fatemi.Socie and McDiarmid parameters, which assume shear-mode fatigue cracking, are the most reliable.

This paper is concerned with the dynamics of hyperelastic solids and structures. We seek for a smart control actuation that produces a desired (prescribed) displacement field in the presence of transient imposed forces. In the literature, this problem is denoted as displacement tracking, or also as shape morphing problem. One talks about shape control, when the displacements to be tracked do vanish. In the present paper, it is assumed that the control actuation is provided by imposed eigenstrains, e.g., by the electric field in piezoelectric actuators, or by thermal actuators, or via analogous physical effects, such as magneto-striction or pre-stress. Structures with a controlled eigenstrain-type actuation belong to the class of smart structures. The action of the eigenstrains can be conveniently characterized by actuation stresses. Our theoretical derivations are performed in the framework of the theory of small incremental dynamic deformations superimposed upon a statically pre-deformed configuration of a hyperelastic solid or structure. We particularly ask for a distribution of incremental actuation stresses, such that the incremental displacements follow exactly a prescribed trajectory field, despite the imposed incremental forces are present. An exact solution of this problem is presented under the assumption that the actuation stresses can be tailored freely and applied everywhere within the body. Extending a Neumann-type solution strategy, it is shown that the actuation stresses due to the distributed control eigenstrains must satisfy certain quasi-static equilibrium conditions, where auxiliary body-forces and auxiliary surface tractions are to be taken into account. The latter auxiliary loading can be directly computed from the imposed forces and from the desired displacement field to be tracked. Hence, despite the problem is a dynamic one, a straightforward computation of proper actuator distributions can be obtained in the framework of quasi-static equilibrium conditions. Necessary conditions for the functioning of this concept are presented. Particularly, it must be required that the intermediate configuration is infinitesimally superstable. Previous results of our group for the case of shape control and displacement tracking in linear elastic structures are included as special cases. The high potential of the solution is demonstrated via Finite Element computations for an irregularly shaped four-corner plate in a state of plain strain.

In this study, a numerical analysis method for soil-pile interaction in frequency domain problem is presented. The total soil-pile interaction system is divided into two parts so called near field and far field. In the near field, beam elements are used lot a pile and plain strain finite elements for soil. In the far field, dynamic fundamental solution for multi-layered half planes based on boundary element formulation is adopted lot soil. These two fields are coupled using FE-BE coupling technique. In order to verify the proposed soil-pile interaction analysis, the dynamic responses of pile on multi-layered half planes are simulated and the results are compared with the experimental results. Also, various numerical analyses of piles considering different conditions of soil-pile interaction system are performed to examine the dynamic behavior of the system. It has been found that the developed method which satisfies the radiation conditions of multi-layered half planes can be applied to various structure systems effectively in frequency domain.

With the changes of times the building materials tend to extend the demand for application under the special environment. Since high-ductile mortar is developed, the building materials show excellent performance like toughness, compression, tensile, and bending, etc. in the general concrete from the existing brittle point. And, recently they are widely used as repairing and reinforcing materials both at home and abroad because they are recognized as excellence like durability and fire-resistance. However, it is in a situation of creating problems in durability because it frequently happened deterioration of buildings that have already repaired and reinforced at a time when it requires reconstruction of recently deteriorated construction structure recently. Therefore, in this study improved with a more repair Material development and reinforcement of the second high-ductile mortar products for a variety of basic materials were presented want, research plans used include traditional repair materials and the newly developed PCM (polymer cement mortar) structural reinforcement type indicated that comparison. PCM analysis in order to present a rate depending on the types fiber 0, 1.2 and 2.0(%) at three levels and mixture water according to ratios of weight to Plain in the 2.0 and 1.85(kg) at two levels is set, the results were as follows. 1) This study has shown that PCM had excellent strain hardening behavior at the same time that the bending stress increased according to the fiber contents. 2) This study has shown that it had the durability performance due to the high substance transmission according to the fiber contents.

The effects of specimen geometry and loading conditions on the stress distribution in a sandwich specimen under combined loads are investigated by elastic finite element analysis. A commercial software NASTRAN is used in plain-strain two-dimensional finite element analysis of sandwich specimens; the analysis was performed for three different specimen shape factors and four different combined displacement conditions. The results of computational analysis suggest that the effect of the combined displacement angle, which is defined as the ratio of the shear displacement to the normal displacement, on the size of the non-homogeneous stress distribution is observed only in the case of the shear stress and von Mises stress. Also as the combined displacement angle increases, the size of the nonhomogeneous stress distribution decreases in the case of the shear stress and increases in the case of the von Mises stress. In addition, as the specimen shape factor, which is defined as the ratio of the specimen length to the height, increases, the size of the non-homogeneous stress distribution under combined displacement conditions decreases significantly.

The mutagenic, comutagenic and antimutagenic effects of red pepper powder were studied by using Ames mutagenicity test. extracts(3 fractions) of the red pepper powder did not show any mutagenicity with or without S9 mix in Salmonella typhimurium strains of TA100 and TA98. These extracts did not show any comutagenicity on N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine(MNNG). Capsaicin also did not exhibit any mutagenicity in the absence or presence of S9 mix prepared from rat or hamster livers. However, the red pepper powder showed antimutagenicity aganist aflatoxin $B_1(AFB_1)$ mediatdd mutagenicity. Especially first fraction of the pepper powder inhibited strongly the mutagenicity of $AFB_1$. There was no difference of these activities between hotter tasted pepper powder and plain hot tasted pepper powder.

This paper proposed a nonlocal anisotropic damage model to simulate the behavior of plain and reinforced concrete structures that are predominantly tensile and compressive load. This model based on continuum damage mechanics, used a symmetric second-order tensor as the damage variable. For quasi-brittle materials, such as concrete, the damage patterns were different in tension and in compression. These two damage states were modeled by damage evolution laws ensuring a damage tensor rate proportional to the total strain tensor in terms of principal components. To investigate the effectiveness of proposed model, the double edge notched specimen experimented by nooru-mohamed and reinforced concrete bending beam were analyzed using the implementation of the proposed model. As the results for the simulation, the nonlocal anisotropic damage model with an adequate control of rupture correctly represented the crack propagation for mixed mode fracture. In the structural failure of reinforced concrete bending beam, the proposed model can be showed up to a very high damage level and yielding of the reinforcements.

This paper presents two case studies for tunnelling in Bangkok: a subway tunnel site and a flood diversion tunnel site. The first case study is related to ground displacement response for dual tunnel Bangkok MRT subway. The MRT subway project of Bangkok city consists of dual tunnels about 20 km long with 18 subway stations. The tunnels are seated in the firm first stiff silty clay layer between 15-22 m in depth below ground surface. The behavior of ground deformation response based on instrumentation is presented. The back analysis based on plain strain FEM analysis is also presented and agrees with field performance. The shear strain of FEM analysis is in the range of 0.1-1% and in accordance with the results of self boring pressuremeter tests. Meanwhile, the second case study is related to the EPB tunnelling bored underneath through underground obstruction. The Premprachakorn flood diversion tunnel is the shortcut tunnel to divert the flood water in rainy season into the Choapraya river. The tunnel was bored by means of EPB shield tunnelling in very stiff silty clay layer at about 20-24 m in depth. During flood diversion tunnel bored underneath the existing Bangkok main water supply tunnel and pile foundation of the bridge, instrumentation was monitored and compared with predicted FEM analysis. The prevention risk potential by means of predicting damage assessment is also presented and discussed.
