  • In this study is investigated the various properties of concrete with the kinds of stabilizing agent of recycling water and solid content in order to suggest a practical use of recycling water According to the results. fluidity and air content varies slightly with the kinds of stabilizing agent and solid content, but does not make a big difference. Setting time does not differ remarkably from plain concrete at 2$0^{\circ}C$, but is shortened with an increase of solid content. Bleeding is reduced more largely in the case of S than in the case of R, and is not influenced by solid content. Compressive strength is equal or decreases in comparison with plain concrete at solid content of 1 and 5%, and shows the highest value at solid content of 3%. Length change by drying shrinkage is larger than plain concrete at solid content of 5%, and decreases at solid content of 1 and 3%. Therefore, it proves that the influence of the kinds of stabilizing agent is minute, and solid content is most effective at 3%.

  • This paper presents results of biaxial compressive tests and strength criterion on two replacement percentages of recycled coarse aggregate (RPRCA) by mass for plain structural recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) at all kinds of stress ratios. The failure mode characteristic of specimens and the direction of the cracks were observed and described. The two principally static strengths in the corresponding stress state were measured. The influence of the stress ratios on the biaxial strengths of RAC was also analyzed. The experimental results showed that the ratios of the biaxial compressive strength ${\sigma}_{3f}$ to the corresponding uniaxial compressive strength $f_c$ for the two RAC are higher than that of the conventional concrete (CC), and dependent on the replacement percentages of recycled coarse aggregate, stress states and stress ratios; however, the differences of tensile-compressive ratios for the two RAC and CC are smaller. On this basis, a new failure criterion with the stress ratios is proposed for plain RAC under biaxial compressive stress states. It provides the experimental and theoretical foundations for strength analysis of RAC structures subject to complex loads.

  • This paper is to investigate the Fluidity of Antiwashout Underwater Concrete containing Fly Ash. The results of study are concluded as follows: the increase in Slump Flow value did not happen in the plain concrete which was replaced cement by Fly Ash; however, the maximum value could reach in the replacement of 30% of Fly Ash by weight of cement in the Fly Ash replaced concrete. On the condition of Fly Ash-Antiwashout Underwater Concrete in expecting 50 cm of the Slump Flow, it was necessary that the usage amount of Superplasticizer be around 1% of unit Binder, and 1.5% in 60 cm of the Slump Flow, respoectively.

  • Chloride induced corrosion is a concern that governs the durability of concrete structures in marine environments, especially in tidal environments. During the service lives of concrete structures, internal cracks in the concrete cover may appear due to imposed loads, accelerating chloride penetration because of the simultaneous action of environmental and service structural loads. This paper investigated the effects of cyclic flexural loads on chloride diffusion characteristics of plain concretes, and proposed a model to predict the chloride penetration into plain concretes subjected to both tidal environments and different cyclic flexural load levels. Further, a new experiment was performed to verify the model. Results of the model using Finite Difference Method (FDM) showed that the durability of concretes in tidal environments was reduced as cyclic flexural load levels, SR, increased, and the modeling results fitted well with the experimental results.

  • High reactivity metakaolin (HRM) is a manufactured pozzolan produced by thermal processing of purified kaolinitic clay. Field performance and laboratory research of concrete containing HRM have demonstrated its value for bridge decks, bridge deck overlays, high-strength concrete and masonry products. This paper discusses laboratory evaluations to assess the physical properties of antiwashout underwater concrete (AWC) containing HRM, such as pH value, suspended solids, slump flow, and compressive strength. There were not much variations of pH value with the changing HRM contents, but suspended solid test showed that the amount of suspended solids of AWC with 10 and 20% of HRM were reduced in comparison with plain. Due to the fast hydration and reaction property of HRM, slump flow was decreased with increasing HRM contents. According to the results of compressive strength test, AWC with 10 and 20% of HRM showed higher strength characteristic than plain at all curing ages.

  • Admixture materials are used in mixing concrete or mortar to improve quality and performance of the concrete. This study examines the potential use of talc as a substitute for cement, the benefits of recycling waste resources for economical efficiency and quality improvement of concrete. The test was carried out by replacing the plain mix with fine grains of talc at the rate of 10%, 20%, and 30%. Talc was divided into three groups depending on the degree of pulverizing. For wet concrete, porosity, slump, bleeding per unit, and setting time by penetration resistance were measured; similarly, for dry concrete, strength and watertight Property were tested. Test results showed that the amount of bleeding and setting time could be shortened, but the strength and watertight proofing severely deteriorated. However, at the replacement rate of 10%, talc showed equal performance with the plain at all degrees of pulverization, which suggests its potential use as admixture material.

  • The main objective of this study is to evaluate the true fracture energy and monitor the damage progression in steel fibre reinforced concrete (SFRC) specimens using acoustic emission (AE) features. Four point bending test is carried out using pre-notched plain and fibre reinforced (0.5% and 1% volume fraction) - concrete under monotonic loading. AE sensors are affixed at different locations of the specimens and AE parameters such as rise time, AE energy, hits, counts, amplitude and duration etc. are obtained. Using the captured and processed AE event data, fracture process zone is identified and the true fracture energy is evaluated. The AE data is also employed for tracing the damage progression in plain and fibre reinforced concrete, using both parametric- and signal- based techniques. Hilbert - Huang transform (HHT) is used in signal based processing for evaluating instantaneous frequency of the acoustic events. It is found that the appropriately processed and carefully analyzed acoustic data is capable of providing vital information on progression of damage on different types of concrete.

  • Due to the heterogeneity nature of the concrete, it is difficult to simulate the hyperdynamic behaviour and crack trajectory of concrete material when subjected to explosion loads. In this paper, a 3D nonlinear numerical study was conducted to simulate the hyperdynamic behaviour of concrete under various loading conditions using Riedel-Hiermaier-Thoma (RHT) model. Detailed calibration was conducted to identify the optimal parameters for the RHT model on the material level. For the component level, the calibrated RHT parameters were used to simulate the failure behaviour of plain concrete (PC) slab under free air blast load. The response was compared with an available experimental result. The results show the proposed numerical model can accurately simulate the crack trajectory and the failure mode of the PC slab under free air blast load.

  • In this study, the behavior of external beam-column joints reinforced by plain and deformed bars with non-seismic reinforcement details is investigated and compared. The beam-column joints represented in this study include a benchmark specimen by seismic details in accordance with ACI 318M-11 requirements and four other deficient specimens. The main defects of the non-seismic beam-column joints included use of plain bar, absence of transverse steel hoops, and the anchorage condition of longitudinal reinforcements. The experimental results indicate that using of plain bars in non-seismic beam-column joints has significantly affected the failure modes. The main failure mode of the non-seismic beam-column joints reinforced by deformed bars was the accumulation of shear cracks in the joint region, while the failure mode of the non-seismic beam-column joints reinforced by plain bars was deep cracks at the joint face and intersection of beam and column and there was only miner diagonal shear cracking at the joint region. In the other way, use of plain bars for reinforcing concrete can cause the behavior of the substructure to be controlled by slip of the beam longitudinal bars. The experimental results show that the ductility of non-seismic beam-column joints reinforced by plain bars has not decreased compared to the beam-column joints reinforced by deformed bars due to lack of mechanical interlock between plain bars and concrete. Also it can be seen a little increase in ductility of substructure due to existence of hooks at the end of the development length of the bars.
