  • To understand the tensile behaviors of GFRP at low temperature, three types of specimen have been used in this study. Tensile properties and fracture mechanisms for three orthogonal orientations of plain weave glass fabric reinforced epoxy resin laminate were investigated at temperature range of about -30 to $15^{\circ}C$. The tensile properties of axial and edge type specimen decrease slightly with decreasing temperature to $-20^{\circ}C$. However, at $-30^{\circ}C$ the decreases in the tensile properties increased considerably. Below $-20^{\circ}C$, thickness type specimen showed a marked decreases in the tensile properties. It was obvious that the fracture manner of thickness type specimen was adhesive failure at above $-10^{\circ}C$ and a mixed adhesive and cohesive failure at below $-20^{\circ}C$.

  • A method for the analysis of free vibrations of steel and plain weave composite cylindrical shells with a longitudinal, interior rectangular plate is developed by using the receptance method. This method is based on the ratio of a deflection (or slope) response to a harmonic force(or moment) at the joint. In this study, after getting the free vibration characteristics of the simply supported plate and shell, the frequency equation of the combined system is obtained by considering the continuity condition at the joint between the plate and the shell. The numerical results are compared with published results and experiment results in order to show the validate of the formulation, and shown that the analytical results agreed with those from other methods. The effects of the location and the thickness of the plate on the natural frequencies are also investigated.

  • The anisotropic mechanical properties were measured for the three orthogonal orientations of plain weave glass fabric reinforced epoxy resin laminate. In tensile and flexural tests, axial and edge type specimens failed by pull-out of warp and fill yarns, respectively. In contrast, the thickness type specimens failed by adhesive failure process. Longitudinal cracking occurred in several of the edge type specimens during tensile test. That cracking caused pop-in in the stress-strain curve. Defects induced by improper coupon machining caused that cracking.

  • The purpose of this study is to categorize the type of fabrics and to analyze weaving method on the silk fabrics from ewongun's Tomb. The conclusions of this research are as follow. 1) Among the 26pieces of excavated clothes,98% of them were made of silk fabric and among them 84% used high-quality non-patterned silk I would assume, therefore, that the tomb was owned by a person who had a dignified yet humble tagte of higher society. 2) The weaving methods of textiles are plain weave, twil1 weave, satin weave. Plain weave includes spun silk tabby, fine filament silk tabby, raw silk tabby, thine silk tabby, damask on tabby, twill weave includes twill damask with different directions, satin weave includes non-patterned satin damask,5-end satin damask(4/1 warp faces ground, l/4 wok faced pattern). As the result of literature survey, I settled the names of textiles as follows; tabby was called Myunju, Saeju, Saengcho, and Sookcho according to the kind and density of silk threads used; Damask on tabby was ca]led Hwamunju) Twill damask was called Hwmunnung Satin damask was ca]led Hwamundan if they bear patterns by themselves or Mumundan if they don't have any patterns on them.

  • The heat transfer characteristics of flow through two inclined wire-mesh baffles in a rectangular channel were investigated experimentally with varying the mesh number of wire screens and inclination angle of the baffles. Two different types of wire meshes such as dutch and plain weaves, were used in this experiment. Three kinds of baffle plates with different mesh specifications in the dutch weave and four different kinds in the plain weave were manufactured. Baffles were mounted on bottom wall with varied angles of inclination. Reynolds number was varied from 23,000 to 57,000. It is found that the placement of inclined wire-mesh baffles in the channel affects the heat transfer characteristics by combining both jet impingement and flow disturbance. The wire screen modified the flow structure leading to a change in the heat transfer characteristics. The results show that the baffle plate with the most number of mesh (type SA) has the highest heat transfer rate.

  • Seven commercial lining fabrics normally used in a market were selected: plain-weave fabrics with polyester, nylon, rayon and acetate fiber, and polyester textured yarn, in addition, polyester fabrics with plain, twill and satin weave. Then seam strength, seam efficiency, resistance to slippage of yarns and type of seam destruction were examined related to endurance by textiles in sewing capability of the lining fabrics. In results, as tensile strength was greater, seam strength got greater, which shows tensile strength and seam strength have close relationship. Tensile and seam strength of acetate fabric were the least, but seam efficiency was the greatest. It presents that strong tensile and seam strengths do not show high seam efficiency at the same time. Various types of seam destruction have been shown. When tensile strength of the sewing thread was greater than tensile strength of fabric, fabric destruction was occurred before the sewing thread destruction. When tensile strength of the fabric was greater than seam strength, the sewing thread destruction was occurred. Resistance to slippage of yarns got greater as tensile strength of the fabric got greater. The plain-weave fabric, which tensile strength of fabric was smaller, showed the greater resistance to slippage of yarns than twill and satin weave fabrics. The stretch fabric revealed the optimal lining fabric with the greatest resistance to slippage of yarns.

  • Fancy Yarn has developed diverse textures in fabrics, reducing the time in yarn and fabric production or apparel making in order to develop creative goods. In this study aimed to propose the use of a 4D box system to make fancy yarn shapes with loops, knops and spirals and the like. The change in texture was analysed and simulated to produce a suitable fabric image by using the fancy yarns fabric. The results are as follows. The plain weave, 2/2 basket weave, 2/2 twill weave, 2/2 2 complete broken weaves, and 5 harness sateen weaves were woven and a fabric image formed. In the case of the loop and the knop yarns fabric image, compared to the twisted fabric image the surface was covered by loops or some parts became partially black. In the case of the spiral shape it showed pattern continuity in spiral shapes 1, 2 and 3. The more twisted spirals produced a diamond shaped pattern or a twill line and a herring bone shaped twill line. An evenly distributed black fabric image appeared in 5 harness sateen weave. For the loop shape the broken weave or 5 harness sateen weave was produced; basket weave and broken weave for the knop yarn 1 or knop yarn 2; and for the spiral shape a plain fabric or 5 harness sateen weave were produced much similar to the fabric image. The surface texture of the mapped image compared to the twisted fabric image produces fancy yarn fabric images covered with loops or irregular spots caused by the knop and the spiral. Therefore it is appropriate or suitable for the simulation of tweed or woolen wool fabrics. The fabric image which produced consistent and continuous lines is therefore more suitable for simulations of twill or herringbone fabric images.

  • The kind and the use of the fabrics for crown manufacture in the Baekje period has been studied by characterizing the imprinted fabrics on the crowns and the diadem ornaments from the old tomb. The contact region with the skin inside of the crown and the region between the bark of white birch and the gilt bronze openwork plates contained fabrics. The fabrics used in the gilt-bronze crown were all plain weave silk except that of Yongwonri tomb where loosely woven thin tabby was used. There have been 4-types of iron framed diadem of the Baekje, which comprise the inverted triangle-shaped diadem only with iron frame, the diadem with gold plate ornament in the iron frame, the diadem decorated with mica plate and gold plate, and the diadem with silver ornament in the iron frame. The fabrics used in the triangle shaped iron frame diadem include plain weave silk, irregular plain woven silk, thin tabby, complex silk gauze, twill weave on plain ground, and warp-faced compound weave. The iron frames were wrapped with the fabrics from one layer up to three layers, and the iron diadem was covered with one later of loosely woven textile such as irregular plain woven silk, thin tabby, and complex silk gauze. But in case of decorating the iron diadem with gold Plate ornaments, multiple layers of fabric were used to sustain the weight of the ornaments. The fabrics in the iron diadem frame were sewed with running stitch, overedge stitch or hemming stitch, diagonal hemming stitch, half back stitch), and overcast stitch.

  • This research was designed to investigate the preferred textiles for the jackets of college students. 105 subjects that majored in fashion design were surveyed. The subjects selected three favorite materials, according to the seasons, among 120 samples presented in a swatch book and their frequency of choice was tallied. The extent of the subjects' preference was compared by season and gender The results of this study were as follows: 1. College students preferred dark Grayish Brown plain variation wool Crossbred foremost as a textile for the spring and fan season. 2. White plain cotton Plisse was the most preferred material for summer. 3. Olive Gray cotton Corduroy was the most preferred textile for winter. 4. For thickness and weight, the textiles chosen for winter were thicker and heavier than those chosen for other seasons. 5. For fiber content, natural fiber such as wool were preferred for all seasons. 6. For the type of fabrics weave, a plain variation weave was preferred for spring and fall, twill was preferred for winter and plain weave was preferred for summer. 7. Collage students preferred gray and brown tones for the spring, fall and winter season. For color characteristics, solid fabrics were generally preferred and check patterns were especially preferred for the winter season. 8. Girl students generally preferred lighter and thinner fabrics than those chosen by boys.

  • Effective properties of ceramic matrix plain woven textile composites were calculated using finite element analysis. The considered geometry is a unit cell of plain weave and the analysis was performed by commercial finite element program, ANSYS. The materials for analysis are 3 types for matrix, 1 type for fiber with various volume fraction. The result indicates that the effective properties of ceramic matrix composites can be controlled by the volume fraction. The result can be used for numerical analysis using ceramic matrix composites.
